I like the Blackhawk SERPA holsters, personally... Safariland makes good stuff, too. Better actually, I just don't have one yet to fully compare.

You are aware that some Serpa(s) have been recalled?

I got a Safariland 6004 but I don't think I will be able to use it based on the rules.. :woohoo: So I need to look at options...

It was the models for the M&P, I believe... and that is because of they simply relabeled holsters for the G20/21 to also fit the M&P, but they actually were loose enough to allow the locking mechanism to interact with the M&P's trigger. The other models are fine, I've never had a problem with mine, and the stories of problems are few and far between.

In Single Stack Div. your 1911 clone is what you need, but it does not have to be a .45. 9mm, 38 super and .40 are also available to you. As long as it's a single stack and does not have a light rail you should be fine.

What does the light rail do in regards to the classes? The only 5in 1911 I have is a Warrior.

From what has been posted on the M&P forums, the issue with the recall on the Serpa holsters was people were not being careful while re-holstering and were getting the top of the holster stuck in the trigger guard. I tried with an unloaded gun, and it is possible, but it would take some really sloppy gun control to actually cause a problem.

I dont honestly see a reason for them to recall the holsters.

even without the light?? geez...that is a royal PITFnA for me. All my other 1911s are alloy commander sized pieces. Not really the 1st choice for IDPA from what I've been reading

heh...I HAVE been wanting to look at the new Taurus 1911s....hunmm...perhaps all is NOT lost after all

I've been thinking about one of those myself for Single Stack.

Is it possible to get a USPSA membership (and is it required??) the day of the event, or is that something that needs to be done in advance?

I would shoot a couple of matches first to make sure you like it. It is not required to be a USPSA member to shoot club level matches, at least thats the way it is in Dickson.

I don't know of any clubs that require USPSA membership for first time shooters. There are clubs that require NRA membership though. At NTPS however, we do not.

One thing to remember, perhaps even take this as a warning. If you are a competitive person, you will get hooked on USPSA. I've been shooting for a little over five years and haven't missed an NTPS club match in almost four years.

I went out to Guns and Leather today...looking for a PT1911. Ended up trading in a Para I had collecting dust in the safe...and walked out with a Springfield TRP Operator for the same cash (after trade) as the Taurus :-) so I'm ready to shoot

If anyone is intrested in teaming up for one of the Gallatin Gun Club matches in the new year, I'd be very interested. I'm in Hendersonville, I have never shot competitively, but am planning to do at last an IDPA or USPSA and 3 or 4 of the 3 gun matches in Manchester for 08.

I'm up for some competition shooting in mid-TN. My only issue is that I can't shoot Saturdays (check screen name).

It seems there are enough people here that if we could find someplace we could stage our own TNGO IDPA-style match.

fwiw, I have been shooting at the Volunteer Pistol Club (Brush Creek) for about 3 years, mostly revolver but I am also rated in the other classes.

NTPS matches are held on both Saturdays and Sundays.

If true that wins the award for dumbest rule in a shooting sport. The extra weight is negligible and will not change the shooting characteristics of the pistol appreciably.

I have to agree with Rabbi. When I do my cleaning today, I'm going to put the Warrior and the Springfield on the scales and see what the difference is.

i know Saturdays Guns and Leather is SLAMMED with range time. I wonder if we could find a range somewhere that would host our matches on Saturday.

Joelton is holding classes...so Frank is hogging the range there :-)

Stones River would cal SWAT on us the 1st time we broke off the X

Gun City...uh...no

I agree.

The new rulebook for 08 just came out. We had a hell of a fight keeping a ton of stupid rule changes.

Now I must edit myself.

Factory installed light rails no longer than 3.25 inches ARE allowed. I guess we were successful after all!

I looked at their website, the one they have posted is from 2005.

I wish I would have known about the rule change when i put back the DPMS M4 to pickup the Springfield....but meh....I'll get the M4 in a couple of months.

I am new to this forum and came here specifically looking for fellow TN shooters to start shooting IDPA with. count me in. I 'think' I have my profile set up correctly so that my email is visible.

Gallatin Gun Club is having it's next IDPA match on Jan. 12 and it will be a classifier match. For those new to IDPA, the classifier is low speed, straight forward, and a good starting point for new competitive shooters.
