Anyboy here work at a place where your vehicle has been searched? The only place I know of that happening is at our local high school. I don't belive they search employees' vehicles there; just students. When my children get old enough to drive, I'll be stirring up quite a stink over that.

I've worked at several facilities which did random searches of employee vehicles.

Unless the teacher consents to such a search in his employment contract (or verbally otherwise) it seems to me a really blatant violation of the federal Fourth Amendment, since the government is the party doing the search. I agree with you that students' vehicles should not be subject to search by anyone except a police officer with probably cause or a warrant in hand, just like any other citizen. But at least teachers still have big-boy rights... for now.

The courts have ruled that student’s cars can be searched without a warrant but with probable cause. That is true of a vehicle almost anywhere.

The issue with students (or employee’s) is usually that if they refuse to give permission to search the Police are going to become involved. Once the Police are involved it’s out of the hands of the teachers or employers on how the situation will be handled.

The issue with employers wanting to search cars is usually theft, not guns. That situation is not going to end well for the employee if there is stolen company property in his car by involving the Police.
