Open carry: a bad idea

A badge is a mark of authority, granted by a particular office.

And given that most people understand that, a HCP badge is generally viewed as something that puts the wearer in the "wanna be" category, pretending to an authority they do not have.

J.

Agreed. However, I can see instances in which the HCP Badge would reduce questions and overall reservations of the population around the person that is OC. Personally, CC is the only way I will carry. Bottom Line. From my point of view, if someone wants to rob me and I am OC and they still wanna rob me and will do anything to be able to, they'll just shoot me and take whatever they want. I'd like to have an element of surprise, i.e "A chance in hell", especially if they think I'm just some pretty boy driving a nice car.

:mad: oh, I prefer to conceal. Of course that is just my personal opinion. Don't want to freak anyone out for the sake of freaking them out. Also, I believe more in the element of surprise (in most cases). To me the bottom line is being able to carry. If you want to open carry, then that's your provocative. Just don't whine about any flack that comes with it.

I think a HCP badge is apt to bring on more questions, not fewer... especially with the police, and anybody else that may be inclined to either think you are, or charge you with, impersonating an officer.

( I would not want to be out in public, and run into one of our local judges while wearing a HCP badge. I can assure you, it would come back and bite you, sooner or later. )

Makes perfect sense to me, why do you sign off with the letter J after every post when clearly we see who made the post?

It's a habit I got into on other boards, where there are frequently other "Jamies", as well as "JCs" and what not.

Anyway, if you don't have the courage to say what's on your mind and then stand by/behind it, even later on down the road... maybe you shouldn't be saying anything at all?

After all, if you're gonna waste other people's bandwidth, the least you can do is leave something there that might be worth the cost, rather than a bunch of dots.

Hence the reason some may opt to carry a badge, as a mark of their authority to do so…..

Deleting your posts after you make them is pretty silly. Unless you've changed your opinion on the matter, of course. Otherwise, why not just stand behind what you have to say? :)

I tend to agree with you. If your carry permit isn't ominous looking enough, a badge isn't going to help you. And for what it's worth, I'm not in favor of open carry either. If a bad guy starts shooting, guess who he's going to aim for first?

Just my two cents.

Hello David,

I shouldn’t really have to explain myself, since I haven’t broken any rules on this forum. But following the general mind set of most posting members, That proactive policing is okay dokie. I shall make an excuse for my actions…..

I believe in all freedoms of speech without censorship, I also believe my writings belong to me. This board is slanted that police saving a kitten is praised as a hero, doesn’t matter that an hour before they were standing around in a circle of their peers chatting as the tazer compliance weapon has citizens flopping around on the ground.

See David this kind of citizen expression is frowned upon in certain circles where political correctness is the rule, not the rule of law. I find it disgusting that so many people think a person should lose their constitutional rights simply because it helps LE make a political statement.

I started a thread about such conduct, it was a news report about such a “crime†the thread had plenty of discussion reasonable and respectful at that. But as more and more posters expressed their outrage, you have a wet behind the ears mod who is “watching and waiting†for the next opportunity to exercise his power comes along and make accusation toward me that I was bashing LE, of course this was a straight out lie, then continued on to say my post editing was because he was correct in his accusation.

I was in the process of becoming a premium member when this happened.

Once the Mod made such accusations, it killed the thread. And all the posters speaking their mind freely was hushed back into posting in favor of LE, the Mod and proactive policing.

I decided not to upgrade my membership as this Mod was trigger happy “watching & waiting†I know by speaking my mind I wouldn’t last long with this type of behavior from a Moderator. I chose to not post in that area of the board in the hopes that his powers was limited to that one spot.

In closing, I post and interact with others on the spot discussion, If I make a statement and 40- 90 people read the thread and no one adds to the conversation within 24 hours or less there is no point in carrying it on, the thing about citizens like me is:

All one has to do in being labeled a terrorist or dissent is to repeat the words and sayings of our forefathers, I have never read a truer statement.

I would gladly delete my post entirely without any harm to the board, but seems that option is withheld from the regular member. Of course one could always impose a new rule just for people like me. Or disable my account although no rule was broken.

Signed Respectfully, Josey the legal outlaw…….

I do too, but not on someone else's forum. This forum is private property, and aside from libel, my rights are trumped by the owners of said forum.

In other words...fair or not...the admin rules the roost here.

I think of it as if you were a guest at someone's house. Their house their rules, you arent in the public anymore.

My guess is that you're probably not gonna last long any way, one way or the other. You're just too thin skinned. :hijack:

Ah well, no skin off my nose. If I get tired of seeing posts with nothing but a few dots in 'em, I know where the Ignore button is.

Josey, I was wondering what you deleted in your signature after the word "Guns."

"God, Gold and Guns............"

Fair enough, But I didn’t set out to draw fire to myself. I was discussing a valid topic, this is a open forum to the public. Surely they can expect public opinions to be expressed? If you view this as someone’s house rather than a open community then they need to close the doors and make it a private party. this will insure only like minded people can have a circle jerk without outside opinions.

Again the Mod made an unfair open accusation, I didn’t say a word I deleted my comment in order to avoid conflict, but it didn’t stop there. I still haven’t made a comment in that thread.

It was a “gun fight†he wanted not me.

Ummmm...the doors are somewhat closed, you can't post until you register. You can't even look around after 10 post views without joining.

You could consider registering as knocking on the door. Once let in you are free to do as you see fit, within the rules, if you don't then you could be warned (posted/PM warning or infraction) asked to leave for a little and come back (temp ban) shown the door and told to never come back (permanent ban)

Look, I told you that if you had a problem with what I said to report my post.

That said, going off of what you just said about this being an open forum, what makes you think that you can have an opinion, but I may not?

The way I see it, your opinion doesn't really matter much to anyone since they cant read it anyway.

So whats the deal?

The real funny thing is, this thread was revived because of off-topic Open Carry post made in another thread......now this thread is getting way off topic.

Guess OC threads just get derailed no matter what is being discussed in them. :D

There are two kinds of people in this world:

People who just want to be left alone, and

People who won't leave them alone.

As far as open carry goes, its not politically correct….so the discussion will always be dominated by the card carrying political types. They say to each his own, but anyone can read how condescending most are in the wording. Hard to believe these are the same people who carry weapons at all.

Yeah it's hard to believe that anyone else might be entitled to an opinion, especially if it's not the same as yours. And God forbid if those people are in the majority because - well, they're really setting themselves up to be the recipients of your sarcasm.

Maybe you should give up this tactic of whining about how the "politically correct types" are somehow squelching your right to have an opinion, and just have an opinion for chrissakes.

Gosh I really hope this is a honest discussion/debate and not a tit for tat thing, I welcome the opinions of mob rule. Too each his own I do agree with, but I do it without looking down my nose as why someone would want to carry concealed. Whatever the reasons are, even if its too be cool. :stunned:

Because attention whores can cause problems for the rest of us. Just look at what is happening with Kwick. :D
