Smith and Wesson Quality Control?

Has anyone had any issues with S&W's quality control lately. When I purchased my Shield 9mm several months ago it was flawless. My buddy picked his up yesterday and....I'll let the pics speak for themselves. Btw, this is a NIB Shield...how it left the factory like this is beyond me. qedyna8a.jpg My Shield slide.

New in box Shield picked up yesterday. Needless to say he never inspected it until he got it home and I pointed this out. nu8eqe4a.jpg

Hopefully S&W will make this right for him, although he's pretty bummed after the month and a half wait to get it.

Wow. Just ran out of material on that one or stamped too much. I've be reading about the QC on Shields since they have been released, most have been sub par. What amazes me too is the store actually sold this. But it shouldn't have left S&W in the first place.

Probably has a lot to do with workers, QA inspectors included, working 70 hours a week or more due to the tremendous demand.  Makes me kinda worry a bit on ammo also.  I read an article that said ammo companies are cranking out ammo at a 24/7 rate.  People do get tired and concentration goes out the window.

I would think that's why manufacturers run 3 shifts.  I doubt if any company is going to pay that much OT to anyone.  If they have a shortage of people, they'll hire temps to fill in their needs.

Not to highjack a S&W thread, but my Ruger SR45 that was born on Feb 20 has had some issues that I haven't heard of some of the first one's had. The factory folks are just humans and can burned out on OT fast no matter what the pay.

I've talked to Ruger and they e-mailed me a next-day shipping label immediately. I'm sure Smith will take care of your buddy's gun too. I imagine mine will be like new when it comes back.

that not how i works in most places, where training and skill is required. the time and cost of training plus the lost of the trainer makes it cheaper to pay OT and if its a union plant most likely they can not hire temps.

but that pistol does look like several"temps" miss the problem.
