Recoil Pad Question

Recommended Posts

I have a Remington Model 7400 .30-06, and I am no sissy, but I only want to pull the trigger just a few times each shooting trip.

I am looking to purchase a new recoil pad, but I have no idea what to get and where.

Any help will be greatly appreciation.

below is a pic of my Remy7400

What about Remington's own new highly touted "Super Cell" pad?

Everyone seems to think it's the cats pajamas, only about $20.

I'd for sure get one for my shotgun if I planned on firing it much, which I don't. (unless the zombies get antsy). Hmmm, maybe I oughtta get one just in case.

I put a Pachmayr Decelerator on my 7mm mag Savage. Does the job fairly well, though I still usually max out my range tolerance at about 30 rounds or so. 'Course, when the ammo is $1+ per shot, it's hard to tell whether the pain in my shoulder or my wallet is what makes me stop.

Remarkably, the Limbsaver Model 10102 fit my 1940's Marlin 336. It took only slight tweaking, but was easy to install and fit snug.

Huge difference in recoil, though. Well worth the $30+ at BassPro.

Thanks Everyone!!

I wasn't for sure if those Wal-Mart recoil pads were worth anything. I think I might give them a try.

I also saw that advertisement on the new Remingon Pad, but wasn't sure if they would fit on my rifle. I think they are intended for Shotguns. But they might be interchangable.

Well, there's apparently two shotgun models, and one rifle model.

It's a little confusing, and Remington site doesn't go into details re the separate models.

CheaperThanDirt actually lists FOUR models, 3 for shotgun, one for rifle. But with no detailed explanation either:

Here's the one for the rifle:

All of them are on this page:

Confusing, to say the least,

My Remington 7600 does a good job of working my shoulder over after a couple magazines worth of shooting. Let us know how your choice of recoil pads works out for you. I hadn't even heard of the new SuperCell thing until now.

Thanks OhShoot. Yeah the Remington site didn't offer many details other than "So Effective, Our Pump Guns Beat Their Autos".

That is a great price on Cheapr Than Dirt. I think I might just order one of those instead of the Wal-Mart Brand. Might as well keep everything Remington...LOL

All this talk about pads has cramps. :screwy:

I will definitely let you guys know. I plan on getting one before rifle season opens this year.

I have missed 2 deer the past two seasons because of me anticipating the recoil and jerking the trigger. I felt ashamed each time I did it, and I vowed to fix the problem, since I was being a sissy. :screwy:

I read some pretty good reviews on that. Guys saying they thought it cut the felt recoil by 50% and some saying it made their 870 feel like an autoloader.

I wanted one for my .308 700 VLS; so I called Remington today. They said they don’t make it for a 700 VLS. I figured someone was making it for them so I would call them, but the lady said they make it themselves in-house.

I forgot to ask her if they make it for 7600… sorry.

But if any of you want to call the number is 800-243-9700.

The search continues.

(regarding SuperCell)

Thanks for that. Think I might call, too.

For shotguns, there's one for wood stocks and one for synthetic stocks. Dunno what the third shotgun one is on CheaperThanDirt.

I'll ask about the rifle one, too and post back unless someone else has cleared the matter up first.

(re: SuperCell)

Okay, called, here's the deal.

Shotguns:

synthetic stocks - have pads for 1187 and 870 models.

wooden stocks - newer models (last 5 years or so fitted with R3 pad).

Rifles:

Very limited

Any synthetic stock

Wood stocks: only those made in last few years with R3 pad.

I specifically asked about 7400 .30-06: answer is no, won't fit.

So, sounds like if you have a synthetic stock, or R3 pad, SuperCell will fit.

(I wouldn't know an R3 from Adam's housecat, myself).
