Always want to learn to fly...

A pilots certificate has always been considered a "privilege" not a "rite" so in that respect, pilots have no real rights. Pilots operate knowing that they have the burden of proof not the feds, if they get you in their sights, you can be screwed

I don't get it, what's new?

Anytime you become suspect for hauling contraband, you'll get searched, whether plane, boat, or car.

Hell, back in the 80's and 90's in The Keys, I would seldom get in two uninterrupted  day's fishing in my little Tennessee Tramp boat without getting a look see by the Florida Marine patrol. I'd be down there for a month, and it would really get laughable by the time the same guy would check us out the third time or more.

Same deal, they acted like they were only checking licenses and safety equipment, but they were really looking for drugs. In their fancy high speed boats confiscated from previous busts. And they were never nice, either.

Particularly absurd since I was in a 14" open antique Starcraft with a 28 horse hand crank outboard.

We got stopped in this manner coming back in from Caracas late last year, kinda freaky getting pulled out on the tarmac while they searched the plane, but it still took less time than going through security to fly commercially and they were relatively polite for DHS agents.

He also told us that during the training he was taught that the pilots were to be treated as though they had no right to refuse the search. “What they taught law enforcement officers and agents was that all aircraft can be detained since they all fall under the . . . authority of the FAA.” He continued that, “this in effect gives them complete search authority of any aircraft.”

Perhaps that, that may not hold up in a real court under whats left of the 4th.  Wonder if that has ever been tested in court.

Sure they do a mandatory FFA safety check and O, we found drugs, I guess it would fall under in plain sight, even if they happened to be checking the inside of the seats at the time.

Did you ever try to race Crockett and Tubbs in their Scarab?

:)

Don't know one brand from another,  but those types of cigarette boats were what  the Fl Marine Patrol were running around in, really.
