I ordered a 440 spam can from AIM today and shipping was $23.58!Just thought that was a little high .

I think the problem is Hazmat fees and ammo is heavy.  Would be nice if it was cheaper to ship though.

Domestic shipping will remain flat until 2032. Average growth rate is supposed to be on the nature of 1% annually while this year and the next should be at .8%.

Suggest you try and buy locally.

There should never be Haz-mat on loaded ammo...Easy to figuire out if you are being overcharged, zip from and to plus weight.

Nothing new here, just an old feebay trick, keep the price lower then your competition on the item and then make up for it on the shipping.

That is correct.

 

I find it odd, however, that powder and primers are considered haz-mat, while ammunition is not. Just about all the ammunition I've purchased contained both powder and primers all together in one package.

Or FedEx Ground/Home Delivery. But hazmat regs and fees apply to loaded ammo too, if it goes Air.

Just shipped a 6 pound ammo box to Calif and it ran $19 with UPS, so it is a matter of weight x distance. I try to watch shipping charges in advance. MidwayUSA seems to be about average. Palmetto is low and Cheaper than Dirt is real high. Buying in TN is great, except for the sales tax. I figure shipping into cost and try to hold the line at $20 / hundred for high velocity 22LR and $19 for 50 9mm lugar... landed total - total.

Last March 5 cases of 5.56 couple of cases of other hunting calibers from Atlanta to Chattanooga was 23 dollars for all of it. That's pretty standard. Check out one of the ammo engines, select a round shipping is nearly the same on all of them whether you buy one box or twenty boxes. Almost everyone ships ground, no hazmat fees but you can request air and hazmat fees and some other fees apply. Not worth it. I have shipped ammo through FedEx that cost half that. No one else raised domestic shipping costs yet but i was told USPS domestic shipping went up 15% August 1st.

Both FedEx and UPS generally raise their standard rates every year for one class of service or overall, sometimes just a bit, sometimes significantly. They also play with the "fuel surcharge" thing which is part of it, FedEx Ground especially, since that's part of annual settlement increase to their 100% contracted work force (I was one).

 

Note that businesses of size have contracts that are under the published rates and or may negate the increases for a period of time within the year or multiple years, however (note statement regarding Smart Post, which a lot of places like Amazon use, where final delivery is by USPS). UPS/FedEx compete against each other for accounts, and there are some companies that essentially swap back and forth every few years depending on best deal they can get.

About 75 gallons of diesel at 3.85 or higher to make a round trip for David each week adds to the cost of selling a product.

Are you sure you want to get into the shipping business. And don't forget the cost of the vehicle, taxes, DOT, etc. It may

surprise you how much cost there is in the shipping business.

 

If you think prices are high sometimes, don't forget about the rest of the equation.

Yeah I know exactly what it cost to run an maintain trucks and equipment.I farm and grow nursery stock on the side, own a 200 acre farm.So yeah I know.With keeping up equipment,buying fertilize,fuel,land taxes,It's NOT EASY !Plus working a full time job 55 miles one way from my house.Just saying alot of places over charge for shipping and pocket the rest.

Find what you think is a good deal here or another website, drive 250 to 300 round trip. How good was that deal?
