carfax report

Recommended Posts

I assume the only way a carfax works is that someone uses a dealer to make repairs, right?  If thats the case, every auto I have owned, I have never used a dealer, I guess my carfaxes look great!

Carfax SOMETIMES gets data from repair shops, insurance claims, maintenance shops (quick lube, etc.), dealers, auctions, and police reports, amongst other sources.

There, I fixed it for you. Just because your car goes into a shop doesn't mean it gets reported. Considering that that the truck I just bought 3 months ago went through our great East TN hailstorm in 2011 and had no reports of the repair on the truck just shows how inaccurate carfax can be. It doesn't hurt to get one, but don't expect it to be 100% accurate.

A Carfax report can't hurt, but I wouldn't put much faith in the information supplied. I've seen and read countless stories about how often accidents, major repairs, etc. are NOT listed on the Carfax report.

It's always best to go over the vehicle thoroughly, or have an expert do so for you.

X-Repair Shop

X-Insurance Claim

X-Maintenance Shops

X-Dealer

X-Auction

X-Police reports

None apply!  Have done all of my repairs, let a buddy repair my truck once, pretty sure he did not report it, no auctions, and hopefully no police report.  So I guess my truck is worth a tid bit extra, its should have a clean bill of health on paper since its not on the Grid!  Seriously, I consider a Carfax just smoke/mirrors for a sales gimmick!  I am sure there is a 100ft yacht at some marina that is named Carfax, owned by the sales dude that started Carfax!

I wonder how many of the flood cars from the Nashville flood made it onto Carfax. 1 in maybe 50,000 maybe!!!!!! Buying a used car is like buying a pig in a poke unless you buy it from someone you know purchased it brand new. Other wise it is a buy and hope deal............jmho. Speaking of that  I just got nominated to take my grandson car shopping next weekend. Any car dealers here I should check with before we go shopping.......????

Any dealers here that can run a carfax, I run up on a truck I am thinking about buying.
Yes I know I am cheap but it doesn't hurt to ask

Yes carfax limited at best. If your really that concerned about it have some run a NICB or ISO on the vin.
