Yep, I'm a Col. Jeff Cooper fan. I carry condition 1, Cocked & locked, chamber loaded, hammer cocked, safety on. While this is the preferred method, what you are describing is condition 2 which was totally acceptable and may have been the way southpaws were taught when I was in way back then. I will say that I do not like ambi safety levers as having a lever away from the body leaves it open to be disengaged by simply sliding into the car seat. I also believe the 1911 feeds more reliably with 45 ACP than the 9MM. Has to do with ramp angle and OAL of the cartridge. Most mid to high end pistols have figured out how to overcome this issue.

Hi, I would recommend taking a look at Primary Weapon Systems. They have a long stroke piston system like the AK. They also have a 3 position adjustable gas block which helps a ton if you shoot suppressed. Plus their warranty and customer service were great the one time I had to contact them. I broke the operating rod cause I didn't know what I was doing and they replaced it for free. Some other piston operated AR's to look at would be LWRC, LMT and, the Sig Spear LT. Sig actually has made a few piston AR's but I can't keep track of all their model numbers. Theres also Type A, Adam's Arms and Caracal. Im sure there's more that im not mentioning. Figure out what features mean the most to and narrow it down from there. Good luck!

Will.... In the old days before the " cocked n locked " dogma became gospel, us lefties carried our Gubt models on the half cock with a spur hamner. Ya cocked on the draw ALA the old Single Action Army. It worked very well, as the 1911 has a rebounding firing pin. Now they send you to the " Re-education Camp " run by brutal Soviet style 1911 apartachiks for doin such things. Remember, the 1911 was a calvary sidearm. I own a couple of 1911s in 45acp but I don't carry them because of the thumb safety. Since I shoot revolvers and striker fired pistols, I am afraid I would forget to thumb off the safety in a 1911 style weapon. I do have a revolver that uses 45acp that I carry often. I think a man who carries a 1911 in 45acp is well armed. It's just no me.
