For outside, I went with these. For the 9mm, they are fine. They even seemed OK for the 5.56. I tried muffs on top of those, but they still seem to get in the way with the rifle.

Find the highest NRR rated foam plugs and electronic muffs you can. I double up at all times. The db reduction isn’t directly additive, the muffs add maybe 5 additional db of reduction on top of the plugs, supposedly. Electronic muffs are the only way you’re going to hear range commands or conversation, but if you’re alone they aren’t necessary.

Had a friend of 30 years ask me yesterday if i would have knee surgery. He is having his knee replaced next week. Told him I would but not all surgeries are successful. Some, a small amount, do have some continued pain afterwards, however I told go for it. He told me he was in very bad pain, and it was affecting his life.
