  1. I've owned several G19s and they have been totally reliable. Grip angle can be a turn off for some folks, especially if you switch back and forth to guns with "normal" grip angle. Having to pull the trigger to disassemble can be a negative; it's a training issue really. Take at look at S&W M&P or FN FNS series also.
  2. Call your local gunshops, several around here carry it. You could also try machinist supply places.
  3. +1 For shooting cardbord or steel there would be no difference between 7 1/2 and 8s. Handicap trap shooters might pick 7 1/2s for long shots due to slightly higher retained energy. Another myth still encountered with HD shotguns is they "throw a wall of lead". At bad breath distance most any shotshell will make a pattern less than the size of your hand; only hits count.
  4. Would make an interesting back up to a like chambered bottomfeeder. You could feed rounds out of a magazine for it into the Charter. Not as fast as a speedloader but if you're down to reloading your backup gun anyway then it's not your best day.
  5. We wanted to announce that net proceeds from this match will be donated to RWF, who has some serious medical issues right now. I know he and Wanda have appreciated the thoughts and prayers of the shooting community, and now we'd like to help out in a more concrete way. Thanks Dave Also, we will not be shooting second gun on Sunday.
  6. Brand new Colts can be had for under $1k and the quality of the ones I've seen has been lots better than from a decade ago.
  7. Robert and Wanda, missed seeing you up there, but I was out on my stage most of the time. BTW, if you know someone's who's missing a pistol there was one in the Lost and Found in Stats!
  8. Winlite shotshells are the lowest recoiling shells I've found. Available in 12 and 20 gauge, spec'd at 980fps. They won't cycle a semiauto though.
  9. Tim, even though barely broke in it ran flawless at the Pro Am. Wish I would've shot better.
  10. Tim recently built me a gun and it's outstanding. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/50110-todays-fun-with-smithing-bomarflat-top-with-serrations/
  11. Lifesavers scotch taped to the backer at 25 yards for .22 targets. Kids big and small love shooting 'em. And if it doesn't break you can claim bullet went through the hole!
  12. If you really want to get stainless cylinder face clean there are cleaning cloths impregnated with something and they do work. One example: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/623952/tipton-metal-magic-rust-and-lead-remover-gun-cleaning-cloth They supposedly will take blueing off also!
  13. The T/C Hawken kind of started the reproduction era of ML rifles 40 years ago. They have always been high quality, good wood, blued steel and made in America. Their success begat a host of Spanish and Italian repro guns which have undercut them somewhat in the market. Still, you may find someone who wants one and is willing to pay the higher tariff. Good Luck!
  14. http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Forecast.aspx?location=USTN0141 Stellar shooting weather!
  15. John, you'll have a great time. I won't be able to make it, but many of the usual suspects will.
  16. Another thing you can do as a supplement to whatever training you decide to get is come up to Dickson for NTPS match next weekend. No, it is not tactical training. But some of the best pistol shots in the state will be there and several are excellant instructors. Best of all, you can pick their brains for free and maybe get one to troubleshoot your techniques or show you some you may not have seen. I've been shooting for over 30 years and still learning. Welcome to the journey!
  17. Midsouth Shooters has them in stock, but they ony do pickups Tuesday through Fridays. If you're in a desparate hurry I'm sure Reloaders Bench in Mount Juliet has some.
  18. You don't have to be USPSA member to shoot USPSA club matches, just sanctioned ones.Unless your Spartan has some weird modifications it is legal for all USPSA divisions except Production and Revolver. Come on out next weekend and have fun! NTPS.org
  19. Setup will be tomorrow, Saturday. Early birds will be there in the morning with several folks there after noon. Help is always appreciated.
  20. Rick runs a couple M&Ps in IDPA and does it very well. He knows of what he speaks.
  21. No experience w remington's but have used IMI frangibles sold by Wideners. They worked fine but don't crimp them on the bearing surface; bullet can break when it hits the feed ramp. Yes, actually break in half.
  22. Win 296 and 240 JHP, occasionally Sierra 300 JSP. With a healthy roll crimp I get top notch velocity and accuracy. Yeah, as H110 twin, it leaves a little crud in the barrel but it cleans up easy so who cares.
  23. +1 "Store in cool, dry place." I notice accelerated tarnishing of jacketed bullets that get left in hot vehicles. I don't know at what point powder would actually deteriorate, but it's a good idea to rotate your SD ammo.
  24. I load .32 Long for S&W 30-1 from time to time. You can get a set of Lee dies for not much more than the cost of one box of factory ammo. The Lee dies come with shellholder but I load 32 on a Dillon 550 with a 9mm shellplate. I use plated bullets, but if you can cast your own you could load for basically the cost of the primers since you only use around 2 grains of powder. Mine just gets used for plinking and for small shooters with really small hands it's a nice fit. I don't know if you could get enough velocity to open up a jacketed hollowpoint. A solid cast bullet may be more "effective" as it may give useful penetration?
