Women found after 17 days in Maui jungle
TennesseeCamper replied to TennesseeCamper's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I completely agree. She gave about a one hour news media live interview that was on FB live. I never saw so much nonsense in my life. Talking about her intuition and how spirits told her which to walk. And never did any reporter question the wisdom of her total lack of preparation or call her on any of her ridiculous rambling. -
I am glad to hear you like it. I wondered how it would be with the grip safety.

Women found after 17 days in Maui jungle

https://abc7news.com/hawaii-jogger-missing-more-than-2-weeks-found-alive-police-say/5316559/ A lot said about how strong this woman was, I agree. But nothing said about how easily preventable this was. And by having just a few simple items she could have a been found sooner. 1. Not hiking or jogging in a remote area alone. 2. Do not leave your phone in the car. 3. Let someone know where you are going and when you will return. 4. Carry an emergency kit. Fire making, knife, flashlight, signal mirror, whistle etc. 5. Might want to have a map, gps or compass. -
The old Winchester single shots were just like that mossberg.

Has anyone scoped their K31?
TennesseeCamper replied to MrBrian's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I have used the Saint Marie clamp on mount and a 3x7 Tasco scope. The clamp on mount is a side mount. I liked this set up way better than a scout mount. Took lots of deer with this set up. -
https://youtu.be/xxbl74v0nWg about 3 minutes into this video OHP Captain Dan Combs talks about being shot in the gut point blank with .45. He still drove himself to the hospital. I saw Officer Combs demonstrate his shooting skills when I was a youngster.

What did we learn in the recent fuel shortage?
TennesseeCamper replied to Mark A's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I don't store gas. I try to not let my vehicles get under a half tank, then I top off. No worries about the current pipeline explosion. The last time I didn't even use a half tank of gas before the thing was fixed. No commute for me... Just a few errands during the week. Retired Worse case I have walking shoes and a bicycle. -
I let my JM 1894 Marlin 357 go a few years ago. (Yes I regret it!) Decades ago I had the 1894 in 44mag did not shoot it much and sold it in the mid 80s! The last couple years I have looked hard at buying another 357 lever. Marlin still makes them but for some weird reason they are not sold in the U.S. Look online they have them in Australia in gun stores. I don't want a Rossi, I don't care for the Henry design. I don't want to pay auction prices for the the old 1894s. So I may buy the Japenese made Winchester 1873 in 357. As for the Marlin 1894 in current production in 44 mag, they get mostly great reviews and I would not mind trying one! But I have nothing else left in 44mag. Heck I might get one anyway!

Congrats on your P89! Reliable shooter! I had a P85 years ago and should not have let it go! Picked up a new P95 a couple years ago and it is a good shooter too!

As soon as I heard the news, the wife and I went and topped off our vehicles. They were sitting on half tanks anyway. All of our families are a half to a full tank away. If I need to go see them I will have the gas to do it. If this inconvenienced someone or added to the problem, I am truly sorry...

Is .22LR still in short supply at big box stores?
TennesseeCamper replied to graycrait's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I never find it in the oakgrove Walmart and that's about the only local store I check. Midway and midsouth always seems to have some but not often in the 5-7 cents range. I don't buy very much anymore,in fact I don't think I have bought any in over a year. I haven't quit shooting but I try to shoot in smaller amounts. November will see massive stockpiling and price gouging, so I don't think things will change for the better. -
I had a bersa .380 for years and never had any trouble with it. I shot multiple brands of ammo out of it no issues. I would still have it, but my daughter wanted it. I did not have the CC model. Having to pry a case out does not sound good. If it's new, I would contact Bersa or the dealer that sold it to you.

Darn, I am visiting in town now. If I had know would have brought some stuff, I have a couple Junkers I would have turned in!

Good video!

I had a brand new 232 that could not make it thru a magazine without a FTF or stovepipe. I tried a few boxes of various ammo brands and it didn't make any difference. My first and last Sig. Nice looking pistol though. I don't have much patience for pistols that aren't reliable. I had a used bersa 380 that never had a hiccup.

I wouldn't buy at this price either unless I had no other choice. -

Apparently they are still making 22 mag in the Philippines. And midsouth is selling it.http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/00600FAC22M1N/Armscor-Precision-22-Mag-40-Grain-JHP-Box-of-50-Count -
Hogs can smell you and hear long before you see them. I tried hunting them at Fort Rucker in Alabama. I walked miles and miles of woods and creek beds and only saw tracks. I was driving a down a gravel road through the training area and I saw a big herd of hogs in the road about 50 yards ahead of me. I stopped my truck and the hogs ran into the woods. I was a little excited so I got out and walked into the woods to see where they went. . I started looking right where they went into woods, there was a dry creek bed right there inside the woods about 30 feet deep. I walked as quiet as I could along the ridge above the creek bed ,at the end of it the creek bed it merged with with another creek bed. And there was this entire herd of hogs wallowing in the mud like it was a resort or something. They did not know I was watching them. One of them was a 3 legged Hampshire farm hog and the others were all completely wild. I stood and realized my bad luck, I had not been hunting that day and did not have gun. So after a little I clapped my hands and yelled and that whole herd went up the opposite side of the creek into woods. I never saw a 3 legged hog move so fast. I went back to that spot a couple times and never saw hogs there again. Most of hogs taken at Rucker were trapped by local contract hunters in big traps baited with corn. Deer hunters got a few too.

This snow should help preppers!!
TennesseeCamper replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I have had the same buddy heater sitting in the house ready to go, I didn't need it so I didn't light it. On second thought I will test it tonight. I have a kerosene heater I sat in the garage and a couple Coleman lanterns and a stove that were ready, maybe I will just test them all in the next couple days. Thanks for your post! -

The real test would be if we had a loss of power. But so far so good! And no I don't really want to shut my breakers off today to simulate a power outage! :) -
Older 2g phones will be paper weights soon.
TennesseeCamper replied to TennesseeCamper's topic in Survival and Preparedness
It might still may work out for you. I think GSM can be 2G, 3G or 4G it just depends on your phone. T-Mobile,and ATT are GSM networks. Your cell company can tell you if your phone will still work. They still make plenty of flip phones that will work on the new networks. -

Check with your provider to see if your RAZR works on 3G. It might be ok. -
If you keep an older flip phone or brick phone to use for emergencies it won't work for much longer. "The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T has plans to shut down its 2G network by January 1, 2017. Roughly 12% of its contact wireless customers — 8.4 million people — have 2G handsets, and the company plans to gradually move them to devices running on more modern networks. The timeline for the 2G shutdown was made in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. An AT&T spokesman said the company no longer sells 2G handsets to contract or prepaid customers. Along with phones, the company does have some other devices connected to its 2G networks, but it also expects that they will transition to more modern technology in coming years. As the carriers deal with ever increasing data usage on their networks, they also are facing a spectrum shortage. "
