  1. Surely a caliber conversion kit would come with the proper mags...
  2. Can my trunk-monkey apply for an HCP? They let him and my parakeet vote in Shelby County... as long as they were registered as a Democrats.
  3. Regardless of where you are (unless on your own property), if you are asked to leave by the owner or representative of the property, it is legal and you should do so. But, Government buildings are required to abide by the same posting requirement as any other business, and are not de-facto no-carry zones.
  4. You're welcome. Added a poll, please provide some feedback.
  5. btw, this is where I got the name for the forum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chai_Lai enjoy!
  6. I think the margins have been inflated a bit because of the demand, many people wanting guns which they fear will be banned in a year. I too have noticed an increase in the prices which I see on Glocks and other pistols on Gunbroker, etc... But, among the good dealers and sellers who aren't trying to take advantage of 'ban panic', the prices really haven't changed.
  7. We'll see how it works out. The ladies sub-forum is not restricted access or anything, and if it can provide a place for positive, relevant discussion it shouldn't create a problem.
  8. Dogs woke me up... I didn't feel it though.
  9. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27
  10. Actually, my wife is the one who talked me out of just doing it... She didn't think it was a good idea. But, I'm willing to give it a try.
  11. Ooooo! Ooooo! I'll take the Match Grade model if it's available!
  12. That's not an unreasonable request at all. Here's where the problem lies though... TGO is meant to be a place where gun owners of all backgrounds can come together, share knowledge and voice opinions. I believe that we would be remiss in that purpose if we tried to now segregate the membership into specific groups; such as if we were to have specific areas for different ethnic backgrounds, different political parties, etc... Since when it all comes down to it, all members will be able to view and post in public areas anyways, and this is not likely to change. Please understand that I am not unequivocally saying a Ladies Forum will never be an option, since it is not entirely my decision anyways... but at this time there is no compelling reason why simply creating female-specific threads in the most relevant sub-forums for the topic one wishes to discuss would not suffice. In that, I can assure you that you will be treated fairly, and disrespect to sensitive or emotional topics which are posted will not be tolerated. This suggestion will be noted for further discussion amongst the staff. In the future, when this site is large enough to encompass and support several smaller special-interest groups... demograph-specific areas may become an option. We welcome further input in this... perhaps there is another means which could fill this niche? Since, it sounds like the real need is privacy... the messaging system on each member's profile can be used to discuss specific matters... or via pm?
  13. Okay. It's been a while since I've upgraded my carry gun. The XD-357 Service, which has been my mainstay alongside a few others in the past 2-3 years, has been my primary for a long time. I don't really need a different gun, but I'm sure you all can understand wanting something new... Since I now have the P3AT, which goes with me everywhere, I can afford to go to a pistol which is a bit larger for occassional carry. So, I'm thinking about a .45acp handgun along the lines of a Sig P220 Carry, an XD-45, or one of the new FNP-45s... but part of me leans heavily towards a Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander in 10mm or .45acp. I can debate with myself all day long regarding the pros and cons of these 4 options. I want to hear some of yours, and I especially want to hear from owners of one or more of these specific pistols, since I have never owned a P220, an FNP-45, or a DW 1911. I am most interested in the P220 Carry SAS or SAO, not the DA/SA (I dislike the location of the decocker). I am open to your opinons and conclusions about these.
  14. Another really good idea is to only carry a gun which you know has a clean history. I'd really hate to be involved in a justified shoot, only to find out that I had used somebody elses murder weapon that had been ditched at a gun-show, FTF second or third-hand. I don't care if somebody doesn't want to sign a reciept, that's their business. But I won't take possession of a gun which I plan to use for self-defense if there isn't some verifiable point in time which I recieved it, and from whom... that's just the nature of the society we exist in, otherwise why even bother going to the trouble of paying for and registering a carry permit to begin with, if the odds of getting caught are so low?
  15. Only if it had rifling. Otherwise it's an AOW. The problem is that you'll have to find a SxS which came from the factory with a pistol-grip, and have it converted to an AOW by shortening the bbls... if you just take a regular coach gun with a stock, and chop it at both ends, you'll be creating an SBS... the difference is a technicality, but it makes the difference between a $5 tax stamp and a $200 tax stamp.
  16. Or, just shoot 3 - .45s... realistically. With all of the 12-14+1 .45s on the market now, which are very controllable, there really isn't much difference except some concealability. The worst that can happen is for a .45 slug to not expand... and even then it's got twice the frontal area of a 9mm. I suppose a light (165-185gr) .45acp load might expand and underpenetrate... but certainly no worse than a 9mm would. I personally like .357sig... it's got enough oomph to pretty much guarantee penetration and expansion... with more energy than either of the aforementioned.
  17. I wonder if it was a Glaser/Magsafe/Extreme Shock pre-fragmented bullet? That would explain the poor performance (lucky for the woman!)
  18. That too... and the new sexual orientation... (Heterosexual vs. Homosexual vs. Terrasexual)
  19. If we're talking about FMJ ammo, yes... even .380 will overpenetrate. And a caliber which will kill doesn't necessarily stop a person immediatly. That requires a massive shock to the system, not a hole which will cause them to pump dry over 30 minutes. Most expanding 9mm under penetrate. Just look up the Miami shootout for an example... Or: http://www.brassfetcher.com/var919mm.html Premium 9mm loads do just fine, as I said... 9mm performance is sensetive to the quality of the load used.
  20. Weekdays suck for me... I never know when I'll be available.
  21. or, a Garand... that WWII/Korea era when it was used was where the term took hold, and became the universal misnomer for any removable ammunition-holder.
  22. I suppose we're causing the other planets to warm up too... Some people just can't accept the idea of a solar cycle, and that the pathetic attempts of the human race to affect the environment are just a drop in the bucket of what goes into changing the climate of this planet, not to mention the rest of them. Enviromentalism, as it is today, is not about science or reality... it is about politics.
  23. I don't like any of the options... can we start over please?
