  1. I have an '88 F-150 4x4 with a 4 speed and a 300.  Absolutely bullet proof.  I let it sit for 6 years, put a battery and gas in it and it fired right up and ran like a champ.  It has either 200k or 300k on it, not sure.  And like the others have said very easy to work on.
  2. I bought a mattress from The Bed Store in Maryville about a year and a half ago.  It is a memory foam mattress and the brand is Vivon.  I am extremely happy with it.  I happened to get this particular mattress on clearance and paid about $800 for the mattress and box springs, it is a queen size.  My parents have a Tempurpedic and say they can't tell the difference.  The people at The Bed Store were very helpful in choosing a mattress and were very low pressure.
  3.   You are very correct that it is not a glamorous lifestyle.  This money is going to people who for the most part do not know anything about manageing money.  Give them $20K in February and it will be gone by April, but hey, at least their car will have nice rims!  This standard of living, though in fact not glamorous is adequate to a lot of these people.  I knew a girl that milked it, had 2 kids, lived in the projects, drove a Lexus, and sold drugs to supplement her government income.  She would brag all the time about not having to work a real job.   Made me sick.  One year her refund was more than I made that year.  Now how is that right?
  4. I get sticker shock every year when I get my taxes done because I'm self employed.  Since there is no withholding I wind up paying in about 25% of my income, therefore I kind of get my panties in a wad when I see that number, they even get in more of a wad when I see where my money is going.
  5. Don't know if it has been mentioned but Bic lighter are great!  Just kidding!  Seriously though, I stick them everywhere, every backpack, every car, every motorcycle, carry one in my pocket (I don't smoke) I will always have 5 lighters within reach at any given time probably.
  6. I have made a conscious decision not to keep large sums of money in a bank account since my bank account was once erroneously garnished the day after pay day.  I got the money back but it took 3 weeks and I literally had $6 in cash on me when it happened.  If it was not for my wife, who was then just my girlfriend I would have been in real trouble.  They hit me for several thousands of dollars and there was nothing that I could do but wait until due process was followed and the money was put back into my account.  In the meantime there were several documents that I had to spend my time procuring in order to get my money back.  It was after this event that I no longer felt that my money was safe in a bank.  I still keep money in the bank but just enough to cover bills and whatnot, my savings does not go in the bank.   Having always been a tinkerer of sorts I like to buy old motorcycles, cars, and trucks when the right deal presents itself and try to earn a little profit on them after fixing them up.  I know that is unconventional as a savings plan but it really makes our money go a lot farther than it would even sitting in a good mutual fund (is there such a thing anymore?) that is getting 12%.  We also buy things that we hope will hold value well and be of great value should the American dollar no longer be worth anything.  So basically things that we would value greatly if all the stores were closed tomorrow.    I'd rather be sitting on an estate of what most people would call junk if the SHTF than a really nice IRA.  Learned that from my grandfather.  His stuff looked like junk at first but once you were working on something at his place and needed a part for dang near anything you could find it in one of his barns.  That's a lot more valuable to me than a bank account that once was worth a lot.
  7. Sickening, but the comments are pretty funny.
  8.   I see this a lot.  I use FB daily and do not have this problem, people that post crap I don't want to see on a regular basis get deleted or I take them out of my feed.  I have nearly 1000 FB friends and simply do not have this problem.  If I could keep all of the inspirational crap out of my email, now that would make me a happy man.
  9. I like this idea.  What could piss of Mr. Carey more?
  10. Been a member of several different forums over the years.  This is one of my favorites and currently 1 of only 2 that I frequent, the other is a very small community with only about 50 members and we all know each other off of the web and did before our forum was created.
  11. PODS are stupid expensive I just priced them, I needed storage for a few days.  I could keep a U-haul truck for a week for what a POD costs.  Then again with a move that far a POD might be the way to go, rental truck are very expensive when you are only going one way.
  12. This video should be shown in carry classes and labeled "What never to do as a responsible gun owner."  They were done kicking his ass, the threat was over, the shooter was out of line.
  13.   It's pretty obvious that more than 1/2 of U.S. voters are not that intelligent.
  14. Not sure who this guy is, apparently just some guy with a Facebook.  I like what he has to say.
  15. Start now.  Scout the area.  Learn what deer are there and what they do.  Spend as much time as possible on the land you are hunting until you know it like the back of your hand.  Find a good place to build a stand or blind.  Personally I prefer blinds.  I'll hunt out of stands but I've probably killed more deer from the ground than from a tree.  Keep an eye out for pattern changes but keep in mind that deer need food and water, find where they are bedding and find where they funnel towards food and water, this is an ideal place for your stand.  Don't worry about buying fancy hunting accessories.  Buy good boots and a good knife instead.  You don't need all of the latest calls and scents, they are mostly a waste of money.  Camoflauge is not necessary, just make sure you are comfortable.  .243 or 30-06 either will work fine.  You will kill more deer if you learn the land and learn the deer, and just spend time in the woods (learning to sit still will not hurt either) than you will buying all the latest gadgets.  Deer hunting is neither hard, expensive, or complicated but the support industry has made it seem that way.
  16. It's been touched on a little but look into Gladeville.  Gladeville is just South of Mt. Juliet.  You are close to Mt. Juliet, Nashville, Lebanon, and Murfreesboro.  You are minutes from Providence in Mt. Juliet, which has about anything you would want to buy or eat.  You are within 25 miles of Downtown Nashville.  The TWRA range is less than 10 miles.  You are just a few miles from Percy Priest Lake and not too far from OldHickory Lake as well.  Gladeville is about as cheap of land as you will probably find in Wilson County but Wilson County saw it's last cheap land go many years ago.
  17. Looks cool but I have an issue putting a $200 stock on my $70 rifle.
  18.   So have you ever known a delinquent person, or parents of a delinquent person?  In a lot of cases I would say that you are right but certainly not all.  I've known delinquents that came from great families and had brothers and sisters that turned out to be great successes.  Sometimes people have a bad streak in them from birth.
  19. I've been able to find snippets of information before using a very intense internet search, usually from the sites that want to sell you a report.  Sometimes they will give you an incomplete report for free.  If you ever happen to be seeking info anyone who was arrested in Davidson County try the Davidson County Criminal Clerk Court website http://ccc.nashville.gov I've found all kinds of good stuff there.  I wish they would implement this system state wide.  One other method is to check sites like http://Mugshots.com, sometimes info can be found there for free.
  20. A friend just had this exchange with them...     I think I would have told them that I can not take anything that the state of New York does seriously because their government is a joke.
  21. I'm looking into one now as well.  Wife is at an adamant NO WAY right now but she will soften up to it eventually.  I too will justify this as business advertising.
  22. Sorry to hear.  You sound like you do have your head on straight.  Who was this person that decided that we should all go to college, get married, have children, work 9-5 Monday through Friday and hate it for 30 years, then retire and move to Florida or buy a motorhome?  The people that do this run of the mill crap will never really be happy.  I get criticized by some members of my family because they don't feel that I make enough money.  I love my job, and I love the people I work with.  I look forward to going to work and I make enough money to support my family and pretty much buy all of the toys I want within reason.  I feel that even with a small bank account I am much richer than most that have lots of money.  I've made twice what I'm making now working other jobs but there is no way I would go back. Screw anyone that doesn't approve, you don't pay my bills!  AB, I hope you find a new hobby that you enjoy as much as hiking.  Just don't conform because society thinks that you should.
  23. Unfortunate.  Instead of playing arm chair quarterback, lets let this serve as a lesson that we can never be too careful and just because you got away with a shortcut yesterday doesn't mean that you will get away with it today.  It only takes one second of carelessness to cost someone their life.
  24. Do you have a link to this article?     EDIT:  Nevermind found it!  http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57572207-38/dhs-built-domestic-surveillance-tech-into-predator-drones/
  25. I carry in GA often and find the laws to be somewhat similar.  When I'm in another state I always look over their laws but it is impossible to know every facet of every law of every state.  When carrying "abroad" I keep it concealed regardless of whether or not open carry is allowed.  I also make sure that I'm not printing, which I could usually care less about on my home turf.  Basically don't let anyone know you are carrying and you shouldn't have any problems.
