Thanks, I lived 11 miles from the Overlook for 2.5 years and spent a lot of time there. Still have the scars to prove it actually. That's a pretty Connie you got there.

I guess you would call me a motorcycle enthusiast lets see what I can dig up. 2009 CBR600RR One of my favorite go fast bikes, really miss it. 2006 GSXR1000 Still own, for sale. Stupid fast, 440 pounds, 180+HP. 2008 Suzuki DRZ400SM only vehicle I've ever purchased new. Tons of mods. Funnest bike for the money and very versatile. 25,000 miles and on it's 3rd motor. 1995 Honda VFR750, I had to sell this a few years back, I did the paint and body work, it was a real looker, I do miss it. 2001 DRZ400E in process of becoming dualsport machine. CRF88 motard conversion with a ton of mods. Way too much fun! I race these in a local league. I bought another because they are a lot more fun to play with when you have a friend. 1998 Yamaha YZ400F crazy stupid fast dirtbike. Will soon be for sale. My newest addition 1991 Honda ST1100. Getting older and trying to get away from the fast stuff. The wife and I have really enjoyed this bike so far but I've only had it for a few months.

Decorated Veteran Arrested In NY: Charged With 5 Felonies
10-Ring replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Here is a link to an actual news story http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/LeRay-Man-Faces-Weapons-Possessions-Charges-185853881.html I wonder if they aren't trying to make an example out of him? -
I can relate, I've been to too many doctors the last few months and most seemed incompetent. I acknowledge that there are some good ones out there though.

If it were me I'd post the signs, then go size up the neighbors. If they seem okay I would just mention that I'd spent the day posting my property because of suspicious activity on the property and that I would appreciate them keeping an eye on it if they didn't mind. I would also invite them over to grill out, shoot, or anything else just to extend an invitation. Put it out there kind of like "I'm trying to protect my property but I don't think that you are the people that I need to protect it from." If they seem shady I just wouldn't mention posting the property and just say that I wanted to come by and introduce myself. Even if the neighbors seem okay I still wouldn't be quick to offer them use of the land. If they wind up being an intrusion it will be more difficult to get them off of it if you have already allowed them on it.

Just came across that stats for the US as a whole for 2011, 4.7 murders per 100,000 to demonstrate how off the charts these other cities are.

Great idea! Two things and these are just my $0.02 1) Solar charger is a good idea. In a SHTF situation you may or may not also be able to use a USB charger, possibly with your laptop. If you might be running a generator or what not this could work. Can't have too many options here. 2) I would store the phone in a place where it would survive an EMP bomb or serious solar flare.

12 months of work finally paying off...now I need a beer!

Just came across the Battle Mug web site via Stumble upon, looks like word is getting out! Best of luck in this endeavor BimmerFreak. -
I grew up around guns and always had access to them. I got my first shotgun when I was 10 but I don't think I was allowed to keep ammo until I was about 12, which was when I was allowed to hunt alone. By 16 I had my .22, a 12 gauge, and a .270, I kept them all in my room and was allowed to transport them to go shooting or hunting. My guns were not allowed to come out when friends were over with the exception of a couple that my parents knew well and had shot with. I can honestly say I never did anything that I wasn't supposed to do with a gun growing up. Now I'm on the other side of that equation and have a 3 year old. We have exposed her to guns, she knows not to touch a gun without asking first. It seems that she isn't very curious about them as we have let her handle them unloaded. The curiosity just doesn't seem to be there. We still take the necessary precautions. Guns are either in the safe or on our person. We used to leave them on top of the safe of fridge but since she started climbing on everything we have stopped that. I'm torn on what to do as my daughter gets older and we add more children as well. I fully intend to teach my children about guns and instill gun safety and responsibility into them. I want to be able to leave them with a gun when they get old enough if need be when my wife and I are not here. I also realize that teenagers will be teenagers and even the most responsible ones make bad decisions from time to time. I remember when I was coming up there were certain lines that you did not cross and guns were one of them. I remember getting my ass kicked by a group of 5 bullies when I was about 14, I didn't go home and get a gun, never crossed my mind. I knew that if I showed bad judgement one time my guns would be taken away from me permanently and I liked my guns and getting to hunt whenever I wanted too much to let that happen. The fear of losing my guns negated any temptation I may have ever had to do anything stupid with one.

My desires in music are pretty simple. No rap, no modern country, no fake stuff. Other than that I'll give it a listen. Check out "Jane Rose and the Deadend Boys" they are out of Nashville. I'd describe it as rockahellbilly. It's a little different but it grows on me. I just like seeing people play their hearts out without caring how much money they are getting out of it. http://youtu.be/8vZtbx-gbdo And here is Rodger Ridley, unfortunately he passed a few years ago. Guy could put Otis Redding to shame on "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" http://youtu.be/Es3Vsfzdr14

I think that it has a whole lot more to do with culture and values than it does whether or not guns are illegal in that particular location. We all know that the criminals will have guns even where they are completely banned. Chicago's mayors or Illinois' governors?

Razors are for sissies. Real men grow beards. Well when our wives let us anyway.

The last year data was available (2011) Memphis had 117 murders which was 17.9 per 100,000 Chicago had 435 murders which was 15.9 per 100,000 I was surprised.

I bought them because I plan to get an AR one day but I believe that there is a realistic chance that these magazines will be banned soon. I don't feel like I'm feeding into the freenzy, I bought 2 not 20 at a fair price.
-
I just bought 2 and I don't even have an AR. I'm planning on building one when lower prices come down but I'm really afraid that there will be a ban put on high capacity magazines, so I thought I'd pick these up while I could.

Should Gun Owners Have To Buy Liability Insurance?
10-Ring replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Although it may be smart to do so to CYA I don't think in any way that it should be mandatory. If people who own guns are required to buy insurance then people that own hammers or knives should be required to as well. This is nothing more than a proposal from a bunch of scared, uneducated gun grabbers who are trying to control us. -
Go David! It's your forum, why should you facilitate price gouging if you don't want to? Thanks for not putting up with that garbage.

When I started drinking PBR it was $7.05 a 12er. About a year later the hipsters caught on to it and it was $12.25, WITHIN A YEAR!

Boy Scouts of America close to changing membership requirements
10-Ring replied to daddyo's topic in General Chat
Agreed, assuming that someone is a pervert just because they are a homosexual is no different than assuming that everyone that owns a 30 round magazine is a mass murderer. Homosexuals are no more or less perverted than straight people are. I see a lot of double standards here, it seems like it is fine to attack gays without knowing much about them but if some ignorant politician attacks our gun rights we get mad. -
Boy Scouts of America close to changing membership requirements
10-Ring replied to daddyo's topic in General Chat
As an Eagle scout I'm glad to see this move being made, but I still have mixed emotions for one reason; overnight trips. Just as I would not send my scout aged son on an overnight trip with a girl, I would not feel comfortable sending my son on an overnight event with a gay boy. Otherwise it is about tolerance. Gay kids like any other kids in scouting will either be accepted or they won't. I know from experience if a kid comes in and no one else wants him around he will not last long. Gay people are not going away, to shield your children from them and teach them that gays are not worthy of doing the same things that straight people do will only lead to a future with more hate. I see no difference in keeping your children away from homosexuals because you don't like them than keeping your children away from minorities because you don't like them. -
I used to shoot a lot but injuries to both shoulders due to motorcycle accidents has pretty much stopped any archery activities. I'm a short guy so I'm not sure about the longer draw length. I would see nothing wrong with buying a used bow but take it to an archery shop and get it checked out and make sure that it is safe to shoot before you draw it. The trick about buying a used bow is finding one that will fit you. If it doesn't fit you right you will never be comfortable shooting it. As far as hunting a little bit, once you are within bow range of a deer it will become an obsession, the words "a little bit" and "bow hunting" will no longer belong in the same sentence. Bowhunting by far is the biggest rush of any hunting I've ever done. I figure for every deer I've killed with a bow I would have killed at least 50 had I been hunting with a gun. It's rewarding, yet very humbling.

I wonder what criteria was used to decide this change. It seems to me that it is possible that the powers that be are making it more difficult for the people to have a voice and change something.
