  1. I'm guessing from the length of Rick's beard when he came to, that it was a matter of days from when the hospital was overrun and when Rick awoke from his coma.
  2. My wife's 15 year old nephew shot my RIA 1911 over Thanksgiving. It was the first big bore handgun he had ever shot. I put a mag through it so he'd know what to expect. Once I had him tweak his stance, he fired away. His first comment after the slide locked back was: "I like this!". He could have shot it all day - if we had enough ammo.
  3. Hi Dave, thanks for the input. I understand that no one has to be a lawyer to read and understand the laws. I was the one that posted an excerpt from the ATF FAQ earlier. I've read through the referenced law and I see a difference being drawn between loaning a firearm and transferring one. Others on this forum disagree. I would like to see what they are basing their interpretation on. Maybe I'm just overlooking something that is obvious to others? Or the discussion becomes what is the legal definition of loaning versus transferring a firearm? It really comes down to established case law, if it exists on this subject. Otherwise we are all just throwing out our opinions.
  4. Understood OhShoot. That said, I'd prefer the opinion of someone with legal training than those of us without. Without case law, or a plainly worded law, we are all just giving our views on the law. That was why I mentioned wanting either a reference to a law that backs up the statement that loaning a firearm to a non-licensee from another state is illegal or some references to established case law.
  5. The laws do not cover crossing state lines - they involve transfers and states of residence. The AFT regs and FAQ explicitly mention loaning with different standards than transfers. I take that to imply that a loan is not a transfer. Your interpretation would imply that I can't loan my father (who lives in another state) a rifle while I'm visiting him. Laws very often do not have anything to do with common sense. I'd really like to see a statue, or established case law, that makes loaning a firearm to someone who resides in another state illegal. Otherwise, we have people (me included), without legal training, throwing out their interpretation of the laws.
  6. My EDC is a 239 in .40. I've also got one in 9mm. Both of mine are DA/SA. I greatly prefer the DA/SA action - maybe because I got started shooting with DA S&W wheelguns. Find someone with one and shoot it. You'll find out quickly if you like it or not. I like the 239 due to it being slim and easy to conceal. I carry both OWB and IWB. The 239 is easy to carry IWB due to the slimness (the gun, unfortunately not me). The downside is they are relatively heavy and won't hold a ton of ammo. I carry backup mags in case I ever get in a scenario where I need more than 8 rounds.
  7. Congrats! Just hang onto your guns - she'll be wanting to date if a few years. True story: the first time my (now) BIL stopped by to pick my sister up for a date, my dad met him at the door with an AR15 in hand that he 'happened' to be cleaning.
  8. Care to elaborate? My understanding is that a firearm can be loaned to a resident of any state (for a lawful purpose). Nothing on the ATF site (that I could fine) states that they can or cannot carry the firearm across state lines. From the ATF FAQ (ATF Online - Firearms - Frequently Asked Questions - Unlicensed Persons Question 1): A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may loan or rent a firearm to a resident of any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may sell or transfer a firearm to a licensee in any State. However, a firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector. [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(d), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30]
  9. Thanks for handling all of the administration of this brooksjr. I am behind your decisions 100%. As long as the money goes to someone (or a charity) that needs and appreciates it, its going to the right place.
  10. Maybe its because I'm a computer nerd but I read the thread title as 'AVG' the first time I saw it. It was only after I saw the title two or three times that I realized what it really said. No worries Jamie - I think most of us know what you meant to type. I'm sure no one else ever has their fingers work faster than their brain! I kept hoping a mod would change it AVD to STD in the title - the thread would get a lot more looks that way!
  11. At least shooting the machine should be fun. You'd get to throw lead downrange anyway!
  12. There is a big difference between sharing ones views and trying to force them on someone. Its easy to have a civil discussion about differing viewpoints without trying to force someone to fall in line with you. But that requires both parties to be willing to have a civil discussion. Unfortunately, just about every group is going to have someone who is convinced that they know all and everyone should agree with them - and then the problems start.
  13. Unless they have recently changed, Cool Springs mall is posted at the entrances to their parking lot. Its a rather small sign with both the gun busters and the legal verbage. There is no way you could read it passing by in a car unless you really stopped to look - I did one day just to be sure if it was posted or not.
  14. Thanks for filling in the blanks. I didn't know the details of Glock's LEO program. I'm a member of the GSSF which lets civilians buy one LEO Glock a year at a discount. Its not as good a price as LEOs get but its still better than retail. Ain't taxes great? Just think of all the good your tax dollars are doing in this great nation.
  15. I'm pretty sure Guns and Leather sells LEO Glocks.
  16. Somebodies tax dollars probably funded this 'research'.
  17. Just FYI, the Green Hills mall is not posted but Cool Springs is. Actually, Cool Springs is posted at the entrances to the parking lots - the signs are kinda small but they have the legal verbage.
  18. Someone mentioned Midtown Cafe earlier: just so you know, that's one of the establishments run by our good friend Randy Rayburn.
  19. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me!
  20. You could bring home long guns as long as you purchased them from a FFL. It works just the same as buying a long gun in TN: cash, background check, and carry. Obviously, handguns and any non-FFL purchases will require a transfer.
  21. In my experience, cash is king. If you offer them cash to purchase the gun, you stand a better chance of getting a discount. Using plastic costs the shop some money for processing. Using a check means they have to wait a day or two to access the money.
  22. My stainless Nighthawk T3... It was a birthday present: I don't deserve my wife!
  23. I didn't put any pressure on my rep, as I don't think it would do any good. Harwell represents my district. In my experience, she never responds to any communication that she doesn't agree with.
  24. I'd much rather have Congress held accountable and controlled by scientists!
