  1.     OK, I concede. Should remember not to believe everything I read.
  2. I got the same kit. Went together pretty easily. Did you not like the buffer tube which came with the kit? (I haven't installed mine, I used a Palmetto LPK to put together the lower).
  3.   Haha, back in England, it's the yuppies that are switching to the "natural heat"
  4. You could go the Metallica route and do black-on-black :)
  5. Oh, it just occurs to me... With respect to the title of this thread, cops are civilians too.
  6. That's another good point you raise there; dollar cost averaging. Don't sink a huge amount of money in at one go, invest slowly over time. You cut your potential gain but you also cut your potential losses.   One other opinion I have (and I'm assuming you'd agree), buy the real metal, not just certificates. If you can't hold it, you don't own it (Bitcoins are a little bit different there though).
  7. The problem with mattress stuffing is that the government is currently helping themselves to that wealth anyway. Currently inflation is probably running realistically at about 3%. That compounds over time as well. You could easily see those savings drop 25% or more in real terms over the course of ten years and if hyperinflation hits, they're gone.
  8. I think you have to accept that there's some risk of loss of value for certain things but that the risk is still better than some other things. There are definitely times not to buy though and the recent gold rush is one of them in my mind. Probably the best advice is to make a plan and stick with it. Don't go with your emotions because they'll steer you wrong.
  9. At some point, government is going to see all that money hanging around in 401Ks and decide to help themselves to it. I'm still paying in but I'm not putting much faith in it being worth much when the time comes. We have a demographic time-bomb going on. Private pensions will fare better than government overall but at the bottom line, it's all about the ratio of producers to consumers. Sooner or later, the producers will get fed up.
  10. Real estate is still in a bubble as well. Possibly not as bad as stocks right now. Precious metals? Possibly, they're still a bit bubblish. Bitcoin might be worth a look but make sure you're comfortable with it before you invest. Gun, ammo & durable goods are always #1 but there's only so much you can reasonably put into those.
  11. We're a ways from the meltdown but it's definitely not too far off. I expect Europe to go through it first though. I may even go back there when the shooting stops. We're way past the point that it's possible to turn back, even if the politicians did suddenly decide to start acting in good faith. I believe we passed that point 5-10 years ago.
  12. All that money they're printing has to go somewhere.
  13. Tennsco is out here in Dickson. I don't know what they need in terms of workers but they're pretty big here. There's some kind of aluminum plant too I think and I think Bridgestone moved in a while back. There's also something called project falcon moving in. Nobody appears to be telling what that's about which is kinda concerning but it's supposed to be pretty big.
  14. Surely it's a shotgun. Just be cleaning it on the porch when the boyfriend shows up.
  15. Haha. I like Nashville but New York it ain't. Have they ever been out of the state?
  16. Perhaps they got fed up of being asked. I haveta say, putting this lower up next to the unfinished lowers I received a few days ago or even the upper from the pistol kit, it makes me appreciate the difference in quality (Not that I'm dissing the unfinished lowers). I'm also wondering how they achieve the finish. Is it sand-blasted or something?
  17. Cold fun.   Will be having some friends over. Unfortunately, they won't be able to stay until midnight.
  18. The parties have got muddled into the political process to a ridiculous degree. That seems to be the majority of the issue to me. The whole idea that states get a say in the process of picking the presidential candidates is crazy. I am particularly referring to the open primaries which were responsible for McCain being selected and largely responsible for Romney. The parties should be responsible for the process themselves (not that I'm a big fan of parties but it seems they are predestined to exist).
  19. I don't think Obama could have got as far as he did as fast as he did without W and Cheney to pave the way. Things may be worse now than they were but it's partly their legacy.
  20. Yeah, not a big deal to me either and it looks like electro-etching is easy enough so it leaves my options open for something custom :)
  21. I'm sure they'll all be crying all the way to the bank.
  22.   The Australians have been using plastic money for decades. It really is an improvement.
  23. If you look at modern notes (including notes from other countries), there are marks on them that are arranged in a certain pattern. Recent copiers and scanners detect these patterns and refuse to copy/scan them.
  24. You may be looking at a different lower. The ones I bought are unmarked.
