  1. What everybody above me said because I can only think of one word. Wow ! ....... great job! Okay three words.
  2. I've had terrible results with USPS. Lost two packages completely, had one (a gift for Christmas) delivered to Nashville and routed back to Wisconsin and made another migration south. Delivered three weeks late. It never gets any better, so for the last four months, I just pay extra for better service. Piece of mind insurance knowing stuff will get here on time. Has really helped my anger management and psychological outlook. Need to check and see if spending extra money on FedEx and UPS is deductible as a medical expense.
  3. Another +1 for GT. Have bought blue labels on line. I just emailed them a copy of my papers, waited for confirmation, picked out a pistola, paid and they sent it to my favorite local FFL. Easy peezy.
  4. Nashville is encrypted, but others are not yet. Big expense going trunked, not all counties can afford. I listen almost daily to Rutherford SO, Boro PD and county EMS on my Beofeng with a J pole. Live in Rutherford, here's your radio dope. You'll notice the leo/fire/ems mid way or so. https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?tab=reports&ctid=2502&rpt=1
  5. Try Echo Three Armory. They're in Chapel Hill, don't know what part of Middle Tennessee you need.
  6. If you're looking for kydex, I've been real pleased with Bravo Concealment. I have a couple of ALS Safariland and the son loves the GLS if you require some type of mechanical release. For leather I'm old school and just get Bianchi.
  7. You can also likely find what you want at Bailey's logging and arborist site. https://www.baileysonline.com/forestry-woodcutting/axes-mauls.html I like to shop the antiques stores and pawn shops. Surprising what good steel people throw away.
  8. To the OP If you have Baofeng radios, download CHIRP software. Easy way to program what you need/want. Spend less than $35 for an Ed Fong roll up J-pole antenna for at least one radio. Go here and see that somebody already has a band plan and procedure. You can develop your own for your group/neighborhood. Depending on your programming, even if you don't talk on it, the radio is a source of intel from others broadcasting. You can likely program your local PD and SO, plus Fed agencies and some military. IF it becomes a true shtf and power is out, so are repeaters unless backed up. Easy to get a Tech license, then build out your contacts. Messages are can be relayed simplex with a group of operators to almost anywhere. Your Baofeng could likely end up being your main source of intel. Buy extra batteries or AA battery adapter if you can. My .002 cents after .gov got theirs
  9. Sure, but most likely a year round effort......
  10. Good for you. Yes it is comforting to drive by the grocery and gas lines knowing you don't have to mingle with the herd.
  11. Another + 1 for Strategic Edge.   To view range, see video here.......   http://www.strategicedge.us/gun-range
  12.   This ^^^^^   Like DaveTN said, should this scenario goes down, it'll be fast, maybe too fast to react to. Chances of people being caught in different parts of the house are likely. Then everyone's cut off from the rest. If I get rushed, taken to the floor and held at gunpoint or shot, I would rather have my family trained so they can protect themselves, not just call 911. Especially if they're young adults and teens. Besides firearms, the training should include trauma care. Everyone needs to know how to use "their" weapon and everyone's IFAK or other first aid.     Lastly....       I have an alarm system, but they are only good "after" the bg's are inside. The mutt let's me know when anyone first gets on the property. Gives some valuable time to get a hold of those "protection devices" you mentioned.
  13. Another happy ACE, now Interactive Systems, customer. Have had them 7 years now. Recently upgraded to cellular service. Was happy with landline as well. Quick response to alarm activation.
  14. Sorry, saw it posted elsewhere. Answered my own question :ugh:
  15. Merry Christmas !! Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable day with family and loved ones.
  16. Yes, we just had our installed three weeks ago for a German shepherd pup. We had three acres enclosed for him to roam. We are, so far, very satisfied.  You will have to spend three or four 15 minute sessions a day to train your pup. It only takes a couple of days, depending on how stubborn your pet is, for them to learn. Our dog now goes outside unattended and stops well short of the boundary. When doing leash work, you can't drag him up to a flag.   After comparing all the different ones we chose Dog Watch. Mainly because of the fm signal vs. am, user changeable batteries, batteries available anywhere vs. proprietary, user adjustable levels of compliance, and of course cost for installation and training. Also Dog Watch offers a handy little indoor puck like emitter that you can place wherever you "need" inside. You can use it to keep the dog away from stuff, like litter boxes and Christmas trees/packages, or place in a doorway to contain the dog to a room, like when you have guests. The emitter comes with little baby flags, lol, and since your pet is trained with flags, a visual cue to the forthcoming shock, we now simply move the indoor flags around where needed and the dog stays away.      You can save money by DIY, but if you have a large area, I'd let them do it. I don't have the will, want or desire to trench around three acres, go back and bury wire, etc. etc.
  17. I have a small orchard.... five types of apples, three types of peaches, two types pears and plums. Choose apples that ARE rust resistant if your with a 1/2 mile of cedars. Two types of mine are not and they get rust every year even though I spray them. Cedar apple rust don't affect the eating, but does make them ugly. Most fruit trees are high maintenance, spraying, pruning, mulching, heavy watering in first few years, fetilizing, monitoring insect activity, etc. Takes most about three or so years to produce regularly. You will have to keep them from overproducing when young to prevent damage. Most tedious is spraying program. :surrender:   As mentioned, Ag extension has all kinds of info. They'll do your soil test as well. Soil prep is very important. Some ag ext's offer classes.   I bought all my trees from Stark Bros. It was, for me, cheaper to have them shipped than my time to visit nurseries. But that may not be your case. Stark Bros. replaced a couple of my trees that didn't root for free, incl. shipping. They have good customer service and you can call with problems.  http://www.starkbros.com/  They'll make sure you get the right tree for your zone and they offer pruning upon purchase if you want. They also offer the dwarf and semi-dwarf stock and will recommend correct pollinators. All of my trees are semi-dwarf, in their fourth year and very healthy. Buy some canning jars    Have fun !
  18. Now I actually have something to do with my gift cards ! Thanks for posting this....
  19. Welcome. Give this a look. It's where we found our property.   http://realtracs.com/
  20. If you haven't found a range yet, might look at this. It's just over an hour from Lebanon, but nice. Open all days except during maintenance. In Chapel Hill, TN near Horton State Park. State park has skeet and trap.   http://www.strategicedge.us/gun-range
