  1. For years now the NRA has been sitting on their butts. A new restriction is proposed and they make a public statement denouncing it. Then they do nothing while other pro-2nd organizations actually do the fighting. If our side wins, they're the first to jump up and claim credit. The pistol brace ban is a glaring example. They never even filled a suit until it was a sure thing that we were going to win. Then, when it was struck down, the NRA was all over the news screaming "See what we did!". Just today I got a call from NRA about some new threat or another (Fund raising actually ). I cut the guy off and asked him if they were actually going to do anything about it. He paused not knowing what to say, so then I gave him an ear full!
  2. There are only 3 or 4 companies that make automotive batteries and they supply everybody. Just about all parts store batteries are the same. Just be sure to buy the best they have.
  3. Run is a word that's no longer in my vocabulary.
  4. Leave it alone. A re-finish would hurt that gun's value considerably.
  5. Good boots ain't cheap. They're well worth the price. Your feet will thank you. Check military surplus. Their boots are made for walking. And walking... and walking..... Also check into tennis shoes made specifically for walking. Cheaper and more comfortable. Plus, you don't need to break them in as much. I've got a pair of Vasque hiking shoes I bought back in 1988 when I was a Scout leader. Still have 'em and they're still in good shape. I can't even guess how many miles are on them. Whatever you buy, be sure to wear them daily and break them in good well before your trip. Otherwise, you'll end up with very sore and blistered feet. I've seen it happen too many times.
  6. I never cared for derringers. They're just awkward to handle and cock for me. Too slow to get into action. I shot one once loaded with .38+p. Not an experience I want to repeat.
  7. This is how you stop crime. Quit being victims! Fight back!
  8. If Colt would chamber the new Anaconda in .45 Colt, I would absolutely buy one.
  9. new guy. He seems to be digging up zombie threads and trying to buy guns. Most of the OPs are no longer on here.
  10. I have 4 like new Ed Brown stainless 1911 9mm magazines with bump pads. These are 9 round mags. Maybe used once. Would like to trade for equal quality 1911 mags. Prefer 38 Super, but might trade for 45acp. Now $15 each.
  11. I like Red Lobster, but it is kinda expensive for my budget. I only eat there maybe once or twice a year. I looked and it seems they only closed one in Memphis. Winchester Rd. The one here in Bartlett almost always has a waiting list.
  12. Oh, I get that. That's exactly what happened to me. We were young, two small kids and even though we both worked, things were tight. We managed as long as things went well. But that rarely happened. Something would break, the kids need clothes, yadda, yadda, yadda. Unexpected expenses just came along and always at the wrong time. Back then, credit cards were hard to get. There were long forms to fill out and they actually checked up on you. Many people got declined. I did get a MasterCard which I used sparingly. But then I managed to hit the mother load. I got a Sears credit card! You could get anything you needed at Sears! It saved my butt many times. But it also drowned me in credit card debt. The interest was outrageous! The day I finally paid it off was a huge celebration for me. I canceled the card and cut it up in little pieces with a huge smile on my face. Now days they hand out credit cards to anybody and everybody. They don't care at all. Here, take it, no problem. Enjoy! I can certainly understand how well meaning people can fall into the trap. I was one of them. But I still believe that most people today did it to themselves. Financial responsibility seems to go right over many peoples heads now.
  13. Looks like something was spilled on it. Most soft drinks will do that to a blued gun.
  14. Here's a pic of my meager Colt collection. I'm afraid that they only pic of the Python I have currently. That's it at the top. I hear ya about the S&Ws. I have a safe full of 'em and there ain't a single lock in the bunch. I only have one with any MIM parts. S&W ain't what they used to be.
  15. Those star farts have the potential to do a lot of damage. Look up the Carrington Event of 1859. Then imagine that in today's electronic world.
  16. With our current educational system, that's pretty much everybody under 40.
  17. I'm mainly a S&W guy. I collect those and have a bunch of 'em. But I do own some Colts too. Including a 1975 6" blue Python. I like 'em. At this point I think that more than likely I will buy one. But as I said, so far I've never held one.
  18. Tennessee is on the list primarily due to Memphis. Consistently in the top 5 of the FBI's most violent cities list.
  19. Been there, done that. Once I was drowning in credit card debt. Its especially hard on young people trying to get themselves established in this world. The interest charges will eat you up. But many do it to themselves. They want what they want and they want it right now! I think all of us have had to stand in a checkout line waiting while the person in front of us tries multiple credit cards to make their purchase. Or worse are the people who buy little items such as one soft drink or fast food and pay with a credit card. That sort of thing adds up real quick. I got myself out of credit card debt some 30 years ago. Today I have one credit card and its used primarily for internet purchases. I also pay off the balance every month. For most everyday items, I pay cash. If I don't have enough cash, I just don't buy it.
  20. I've been very interested in these since they first came out. Now that they're doing them in Blue, I may well buy one. But then again, I may wait for the 5" in blue. Either way, I've yet to actually see one for real. Once I get one in my hands is when the decision will actually be made.
  21. Can't see it from my house. Too much background light and too many trees. But the portable radio in my house sure knows the Sun is up to sumthin'. Lots of static and signals are breaking up.
  22. I live in Bartlett. Cordova is common ground for me. I go through there all the time. Its one of the best looking areas in Memphis. The problem is its Memphis. The DA believes in catch and release and the police are incompetent and don't give a $#!^. The bad guys go where the money is.
  23. I know that and you know that, but Cordova is a nice clean, upper class area. These out of towners thought it would be safer. Lots of people think that. But it is still Memphis.
