  1. Don't most of these safes have a mechanical fail safe in case of loss of power?
  2. There needs to be a clear reason for doing so, like threatening to harm or kill oneself or others or otherwise presenting a threat while armed.  Just being armed is not being a threat to anyone, and as I understand it, she was cooperative with LE so I do not see her as a threat, do you?
  3. I have two of the Toyotas in question, they wanted to cut the corner of my mat off and place an override on my gas pedal so if both the brake and gas were pushed at the same time the brake would override the gas...bad idea on a 4WD that actually goes off-road.  I did not comply with the recall, IF my gas pedal gets stuck, you flip it into neutral and get off the road.  When going up steep inclines off road, I rev the engine while holding the brake so I don't slide backward.  I could not do that if they did the mod.  Now the airbag, yes I see that as a legit issue and should of been recalled as soon as they noticed it.   I have seen many YouTube videos purported to show this, but I take those with a grain of salt.  There are quite a few showing how to properly set the trigger, and some will explain how if it is done wrong then you will get this failure.  If it were such a problem then how come experts for either side have not been able to replicate these failures?  If I have a weapon that I do not maintain or modify, I don't expect the manufacturer to be responsible.  Now if its a brand new weapon out the box, then yes I would expect the manufacturer to make it right.  With all the thousands or maybe even millions of rifles sold you would think this would surface way more than it has if it was an manufacturer issue.
  4. I seen this, but it has a short barrel which would, IMO, reduce the range a little.
  5. Yea, am really leaning toward a wheel gun with a Ruger in the lead. I don't plan on hunting bear or boar with it but if the opportunity presented itself I would want the follow up shot(s). I also want to be able to mount a scope, my eyes are not what they were so I can use all the help I can get. At this point if I find a good deal it will decide for me. A $500 price point I can handle but all I've seen at that price are shorter barreled guns or ones that are iron sight only. A 44 mag or possibly a 357 should be plenty good enough. I have kicked around the thought at going 45lc/410 in something like a judge but there I keep looking at the circuit judge which is not a pistol, man so many guns so little money.
  6. +1 on Gerber's CS department. My issued multi-tool broke one of the triangular cutters where I couldn't just spin it to a new sharp side. I couldn't see turning it in just for that so went looking for a part number. Couldn't find it so called them, they asked for my info, gave me the link to the replacement pieces and sent me one for free. We did end up ordering some, but I think it was great that they would do that without knowing I would order a couple hundred anyway.
  7. They have before, but in this case the police had better sense than to make an arrest: http://www.wsmv.com/story/19137384/3-people-carry-guns-into-movie-theater-in-putnam-county
  8. Yes, I could.  I could of also shot at the Iraqis' with a bb gun if I so chose, but I also want to come back from the hunt.  We had a discussion about using a 300Blk on bear on another site, and I still stand by my opinion that it is better to use a bigger longer range caliber.  Though you may get away with it once or twice, I would not make a habit of it.
  9. Not with a HCP, but I think you mean in her case and location.  An officer still needs to have PC, even if someone calls in on you.  Were would we be if just a call could be used to enter your home to search or subject you to a physical search.   The part of her consenting is the rub, but I don't think she was required to consent.  She could of just left the premises and that would of been that.  Of course I don't think she would of been allowed to leave but then her 4th amendment rights would of been violated even more at that point IMO.
  10. SO?  Just because you have an HCP does not mean you can be approached at all.  And she does not have to respond to such a question, she could of plead the 5th and that alone is not a reason to search, though I know it does make you wonder.
  11. I have the P-300 on one of my ARs, though I am not entirely sold on the BDC it is a good scope for the money and I have gotten used to the BDC enough to be able to hunt with it if I so choose.  The P-223 is virtually the same scope and some 300Blk owners have stated that they see no difference in the BDC.  I used a one piece millet scope ring base out of walmart for roughly $35 and it holds it just fine.
  12. While she might have a defense considering the PC portion, she did bring a gun into a non-gun zone and should be prosecuted if the court rules there was sufficient probable cause.  I will not say whether or not I may or may not of done the same thing but if I were ever to be caught in such circumstances I would expect to be charged as well, but I too would fight it if I had any defense whatsoever.    On the PC part of it, I don't believe there is sufficient cause to search her.  I don't use facebook and don't post on any social sites except boards like this.  But if I happened to post a picture of say a homemade can with "MADE in TN" stamped on it, I would not BTW, or of me shooting a FA AR on the range I would not expect to receive a visit from any federal workers because of it even if my AR looks identical to the one on the video.
  13. I want to enter this field and have been looking at different models of handguns and different calibers but they have mostly felt a bit big for my medium hands.  I have fired a few large calibers and some of the round pistol grip types have wanted to rotate upwards in my hand.  I have narrowed the field a bit, the T/C Encore/Contender seems like it could be a good start, and can be barreled to shoot some of my current calibers so that's a plus.  Also like the Ruger Blackhawk and Ruger Super Blackhawk.  I have been looking at these for quite some time, but I just can't get around how expensive these guns are, many above the $1k mark, just can't see this when many of my rifles have been half that, so it makes me wait for a good deal to come along.    So my questions are: who here hunts with a hand gun, what make/model and how much do you have in it?
  14. If I remember correctly, Remington settled a few, but no jury awards.  Don't get me wrong, I dislike Remington's business practices.  They rolled out a new caliber, the 300Blk with a bait and switch round which was supposed to be an affordable plinking round at around $12 to $14 a box but used some qc excuse to stop producing the round at that price point.  But I have to say that their 700 line has received a bad rap, if you follow a few simple rules you should never get anyone hurt or killed.  If your weapon is loaded, you never point it at anything you don't want a hole in.  At most an AD should go down range into a berm or possibly into the woods if you are hunting.  I could see a lawsuit from someone getting shot in the woodline from and AD, but you know how unlucky you would have to be?   The truth is that many companies will settle out of court due to the fact that it is cheaper for them in the long run.  Many see this and will file a suit because even if it was mainly their fault they stand a good chance of getting money out of it and lawyers will do the legal work with no out of pocket fees because they know that same thing.  if there are enough law suits a recall can be cheaper in the long run, even though there is nothing technically wrong with the product. If you talk to many walker trigger owners, there are not many that will send it back to Remington, that says a lot for that trigger.  I will gladly trade my x mark for a Walker, even though I have no problems with the x mark I like the Walkers ease of adjustability.   Look up on YouTube, their are many videos showing how to adjust the trigger properly but once you get in there you have to take responsibility for the fact that you have modified the trigger beyond what the factory meant it to be at and any repercussions should be on you.  If you buy a used rifle, its up to you to do your do diligence to make sure it is in tip top shape when you take it out shooting.  If you are unsure of the proper trigger setting, take it to a smith or return it to the manufacturer to make sure; that goes for any make or model.  Same goes for all these ARs we love to build, there are a few things that can make the rifle unsafe and its not the manufacturers fault for any modifications you make.
  15. I like my 700, though many complain about the x mark trigger I never had any issues with it.  I have also used many civilian and military 700 with the Walker trigger without a hitch, even with a few of them having their triggers lightened.  I thing Remington is just trying to get out of all these legal battles with this recall.  Whether the 700 is at fault or not, its still expensive to defend in court.  You guys see this?    Remington's Response to CNBC Under Fire: http://youtu.be/B_KVS1hIbQg
  16. My sincere condolences for your loss Dave.  You and yours will be in my thoughts during these trying times.
  17. According to the article I read, they will reimburse you if you have already replaced the walker trigger, which is the target of the new recall. Mine was sent in for the x mark recall, but I would be happy to trade it for a walker trigger if anyone is interested :)
  18. Unless you shoot an AR with just irons, all your firearms will be the same, no nose to charging handle.  In basic was the only time I actually did it that way, since I hunted I was used to getting a good sight picture and an M16 is nothing compared to a 30/06.
  19. I find that putting your nose on the charging handle is unnecessary when dealing with optics.  Just a good solid shoulder pocket and a decent cheek weld will be enough.  The reason the nose to the charging handle was taught, was because in basic many had not fired rifles in their life and it was an easy reference for the iron sights.    BTW I have two scopes with the BDC reticle, not in love with the reticle it takes up too much target and field of view.  But the scopes work great, I have a P-300 on the 300Blk rifle, and another (can't recall which) on my .223., I use an ap called strelok which replaces Nikon's Spot on, makes adjusting POA a breeze.
  20. I thought I had, but its a .45 http://clarksville.craigslist.org/spo/4789270548.html
  21. I don't use it unless I need to upload a pic, but I dont like the feed either. I would rather it come up with a list.
  22. Welcome to the site; never shot there, I usually shoot on my property but on occasion I shoot on post when I don't want to spook the deer and I need to zero something.
  23. I hope you didn't lower it because you didn't serve; no need to. The military is not for everyone, and we need to have the homefront supported as well. At Rural King I was getting some fencing supplies and after I paid she said, next time you should ask for the military discount. I asked if she could just adjust it and she said no, ok I left. Couple days later I went for something else and was given the discount, a day after I went again and the cashier tells me they don't let new cashiers give a discount; Crazy place. A few places only give it to active duty, not retirees, it don't bother me either way. It usually doesn't amount to much, at least not enough to make a big deal about it, or lie to get it.
  24. Had to look that one up, must be one of them $10 words I hear about.   Yea, many people seem to embellish their stories a bit, some more than others.  I blame the fishermen.
