  1. Visiting  a local shop yesterday. They sold their first one on Gun Broker. wouldn't say what they got just more than MSRP. They also related how the bolt self stripped when they took it out of the rifle. Took them some time to get it put back together so they could ship.   Wish I had been there to see the whole show.
  2. To bad we are located in Gallatin. Sam set up Remingtons  1911 production line and does customs. I know there has to be some one closer to you. Good luck. I consider SA pistols to be one of the better buys for the money.   Cheers
  3. Just think of Ringo's Winchester 92, fast firing, easy and quick to handle. Or you can call it todays M1 carbine on steroids. The ballistics are more in line with the STG 44. The gun that started modern era  assault rifles.   It is not just limited to 100 yds, But that is enough range for most of us.
  4. Very nice looking  Khukri. One of the best looking grips I've seen. You might want to do a Kydex partial open front scabbard. I have tried to make a traditional wooden one before but lack the skill to do it well.
  5. Should work better than the flying tank they tried to  build in WWII. Just need to lengthen the snorkel and exhaust  manifold.

    2017 Raptor

I traded in My F-250 King Ranch in for my Raptor in 2010. Still miss that truck. But the Raptor gets me in and out of  more places.
  7. Nice utility knife. Can't tell, did you taper the tang?

    2017 Raptor

you will notice in my post I don't have the heavy 6.2. I have an automatic transmission and have a weapons locker in the bed and a locking bead cover. I try to drive and not  just steer the vehicle. It makes a difference if you pay attention to the traffic and what is ahead of you. Red lights kill your gas mileage. You can also verify my statement with the on board computer. BTW I run whatever the cheapest gas there is.   Forty five years of driving many different vehicles all over the world have given me a few skills. TS

    2017 Raptor

I'm Driving my 2010 Raptor with the HP 5.4. Have no complaints, balances well , sounds good and the computer didn't cut out until I got to 107 in 4WD . Averaging 17-18 on my commute between Hermitage and Gallatin.
  10. According to my years of reading about the 1911 the grip safety was a requirement of the Military board, not JMB. The  pistol was originally designed for the horse cavalry. As to why, some people have problems deactivating the safety due to hand size or shape. That is why you see most "beavertail" safeties have a bump at the bottom. It was very common for the grip safety to be disabled by gunfighters in the past. I have seen several different ways this has been done, including rawhide wrapped around the frame by one Texas Ranger.   Someone can feel free to correct me if they can find another valid statement on this. My memory is not the best.   Cheers,   ts
  11. My preferred trigger for custom builds at the shop. I have a strait 3# on one of my personal guns.   Cheers,   ts
  12. More like a Tanto or Kwaiken. Not all Tantos have chisel points. We just got used to that style in the US. Nice wood as well as the random pattern steel.
  13. Supposedly there was a law passed a couple of years ago that stopped volume increases for commercials. You also have to remember that the DREK that is on the tube is geared for a 5th grade level. With reality TV this has even dropped lower. With the state of our school system today that means more of a 3rd grade level from our primary school days. If we put more money into teaching and less in bussing and sports this might help. I also DVR any shows I want to watch, some of the on demand do not let you FF through commercials.
  14. Having been going and participating in gun shows since I was in short pants the '60s. There has not been a good gun show in middle Tennessee since the '80s. The commercial shows are just flea markets with gun gear and professional purveyors, jewelry, Jerky, Chinese knives and anything else the promoter can get to fill tables. Here and there you might see  a true gun collector. If you are looking for parts or deals the way to go is the NET. An unfortunate reality. It's like going into most gun stores now... Black rifle...Black rifle... Plastic pistol...Plastic pistol. Newest internet plastic fantastic crap.   That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :2cents:
  15. Had one like it a long time ago. Lent it to a friend and it was burned up in a fire. He never offered to replace or pay for the loss. Every time I used it at large events I had trouble with security.
  16. I have two major firearms addictions, 1911s and Hipowers. They are the royalty of the auto world.
  17. Visit there every time I'm in Orlando. Always forth the visit. Even dropped off a couple of knives for referb and modifications once.
  18. I build ARs for a living and consider the Velocity trigger group to be one of the best on the market. I've got a messed up trigger finger and prefer straight triggers. So on my last build I put one on a 300BO rifle. 3# trigger pull every time and short take up. It is better than the Giesle trigger I put on a custom AR varmit rifle. Cheers, Tad Stratton
  19. Your Hawk looks about as experienced as my first RMJ. I've known Ryan since he was a teenager. He has the skills, knowledge, and ethics to make only the best tools that he can. Looks like a KA-BAR cleaned and leaned up.
  20. Benny at Lebanon Guns can do the work or we can do it at our shop in Gallatin. Will it have to be threaded  as well?. Although it would be worth the trip to visit Dolomite. :)
  21. One of the many things I don't have to worry about. Pacemaker.
  22. Used the CMT uppers for a couple of builds at the shop. The first is a 24" long range target, perfect for a prone/bench gun. The other a 300 AAC carbine. I am very pleased with the results.
  23. I've got two five inch and one snub. They shoot very well and are accurate. The snub makes a very good impact weapon as well.
  24. Springfield armory was the best value in a 1911 for years. Until I started testing Arsenal 1911s. For the price point and number of models they have introduced over the last couple of years I have been very impressed with them overall. Just got my hands on my second .22TCM, a tactical with full railed dust cover. They are now making long slide versions. All of them I have handled have had good triggers and been reliable. A very good base gun to turn into a full house custom as well. Just my opinion. Worth what you paid for.
  25. Got one at the NRA show for eval and a possible article. Was lucky enough to get a flat trigger for my 300BO build. So far am very impressed with it and probably will keep some in the shop for upgrades.
