    Build or Buy?

I like the 'build" thing the best; especially the lowers... I like to tinker, and it causes ya to understand just how all this stuff works.  That could come in handy some day.  Like mike and others have opined; the upper buildin thing is a bit more of a problem due to the specialty tools needed.  I like the "build it yourself" thing because ya get exactly what ya want...    leroy
  2. I like these type gages for any semiauto firearm reloading... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/456614/le-wilson-case-length-headspace-gage-223-remington   They will make sure the case geometry is correct before ya load a pile of ammo that ya have to re-do... They are worth every penny of what ya pay for them..   leroy
  3. This is silly:     i'm suggguesting waiting him out and outfoxing him without killin him; nothin more   -- the solution to this problem (...most likely....) did not have to be shootin this old man... What is with this mindset that says that we have to neutralize everything regardless of what it is?   Who the hell is the "we" that are too blind to accept common sense approaches to this sort of thing anyway??   God protect us from this kind of "we" that thinks this is the way to do police work....That evidently was tragically lost on those involved and is apparently being missed by some here...  Again..  Who is in the house?  --- an old man with a gun and the police; nobody else is in danger here....    In my mind; this dammed carryin water for those who have used, at best, poor judgement, and at worst apparently wanted to show the community what defyin the police can mean is unconscionable; ethically, morally, and logically, and no amount of explainin is gonna take that opinion away...  When you carry this to its logical conclusion; the end of everything is to shoot lawbreakers...  I dont know about you, but that dont sound too much like "...protecting and serving...." to me....   This whole thing is rotten; and no amount of lipstick smeared on this pig and whitewashing thru police doublespeak is gonna smooth it out.... I would suggest to you all, that if this is "acceptable police work"; the nazi death camp guards should have never been tried....   Believe what ya will, but this is morally repugnant and ethically bankrupt; police dogma or not...  Ya better be afraid of folks like this...   leroy
  4. Dave:  I aint suggesting a "duty to retreat";  far from it.... Im suggesting thinkin thru the specific situation that is in front of ya; considering all the facts at hand, and commin up (...hopefully...) with a plan that does not include killin anyone.   I do not believe that shooting thru a door when no one gets hurt is grounds for "ending anything immediately"...    The old man wuz stationary, the police were in place... Any potential harm to innocents were minimized... If ya read the accounts, there wuz no one there except the police and the little old man...The neighbors and friends were moved by the police to a safe location...   leroy
  5. I'm still saddened by what i continue to read here...   If ya dig thru the news accounts (....yeah, i know that they can be wrong, deliberately or otherwise...) ya see that this man wuz a 107 year old, legally blind and gimped up old man....  Folks, that IS the heart of the problem here... This little ole man wasn't a murderin drug dealer, mother raper or father stabber, nor a 21 year old junkie blowed up on drugs; he wuz a gimped up little man, aged 107... This man pointed a gun at a couple of his friends because he was evidently distraught, and shot thru a door when the police were interacting with him...  He evidently had some sort of an episode that rendered him terribly confused...    I simply do not agree with the "protocols" and "dogma" that says that once police are called, they are obligated to end the situation they find themselves in by neutralizing (...killin...) whomever they are interacting with immediately... The police did their primary job by protecting those who needed protection by escorting them away from the house.  This old man had no hostages in his house with him, if ya believe the info that is out there.  There wuz no one there but him (...in the room...) and the police... What would be the harm in waiting him out?   A 107 year ole man aint likely to "barricade and boobytrap" anything; especially a crippled up, mostly blind old man...   I simply ask that ya think that one thru for a few minutes...  What was the harm in waiting him out?... There aint a real answer for that one....  It appears that this little ole man's sin that evidently wuz worthy of death is that he defied a command from the police to give up and shot thru a door...  I simply cant help but wonder that if that little ole man wuz the granpaw or father of one of these officers, especially the commander, would this technique be used and the outcome defended...??     Folks, this is a serious moral and ethical issue as well as a police technique issue...  It needs a thorough review and some very serious analysis...  I'm vitally interested in this stuff, and i think ya should be too..  These guys could come to your (...or your grandpaw's house...) house one day...  Think about that one for a bit... This is, indeed, a tragic (...and i think heinous...) episode indeed...    Time will tell if this one shakes out; this one is far from over...  There is one thing for sure, however, that little ole 107 year old aint gonna get any older, and those involved will never be the same again... I think that is a shame...I think it should have been avoided...   leroy
  6. I cant believe what im readin here from some of ya.... If the police cant handle a 107 year old guy without an armed entry with a distraction blast, then shootin him; we are in deep trouble... This was poorly (...and tragically...) handled...   Folks are gonna have to quit carryin the water for these SWAT "dynamic entries" and come to the realization that there are some bad people wearin badges and guns; and some buffoons commanding them... This aint a dammed video game; its real life and a poor old out of his mind man is dead because of this nonsense...   At best, this is a terrible mistake... At worst it is a police commando murder...  God forbid these folks come and protect you, me or anybody else...   This is another Branch Dividian thing, abeit on a smaller scale.   It's capricious (...and most likely criminal...) use of deadly force to and military tactics to take out a crippled up, childish old man...  If the police cant handle poor, demented 107 year olds without killin 'em; you had better be afraid when they come to your house....   And, by the way, i aint a SWAT team member, nor do i play one in video games or on TV;  and (...thank God...) ive never made a police entry... That dont mean a dammed thing here... You need to think before ya kill people...Especially the oldest and youngest among us..   This is, in fact, a tragedy and most likely a crime to boot.... Havin said that, i'm willin to bet that someone will cover for this disgraceful act....   leroy
  7. Maybe the guy they "captured' aint the guy that done the shootin...    There is somethin rotten here that aint come out yet....  If ya look at the google map of this area; there is lots of rugged territory to the north.   Maybe they saw somethin they shouldn't have seen... This looks way too professional to me for a drug crazed redneck boy to do this shootin; but i tend to be a bit cynical and suspicious myself...     I think several things are for sure....As others have wisely opined; they probably wouldn't doin a rolling bible study.... They weren't commin home from prayer meeting; nor were they (...most likely...) "....role models for the yuuths of amerika"...  as that great humanitarian and philosopher jessee jackson would say...   All that bein said; i don't think they deserved bein shot in the head and left dead; but, to me at least, there is somethin mighty rotten here....   I smell one of thee things;....bad company...., ....seeing that which should not be seen....,.... failure to pay... All of them are very dangerous; potentially lethal.   I know this territory pretty well... I've seen some things in broad daylight there on the old highway at crab orchard that made me very nervous and concerned to see -- way too many outsiders, and they aint transplants living in the area either... You need to be armed when you are there.   leroy
  8. Here are my recommendations: 1.   Historical era -- American Revolution -- Tower pistol 2.   Historical era -- early 1800's ---- Any "big colt" percussion revolver -- 36 navy to third dragoon 3.   Historical era -- late 1800's to now --- any colt saa or a large frame colt or smith double action "hand ejector"....   All in ornate leather; open carried of coursee.....   leroy
  9. Bersaguy's post (...#3...) above pretty well sums up the sheriff's responsibility and police power thing.  I think (....i dont know for sure...) that the office of sheriff in each county of a state is a "constitutional one"; and he is duly elected by the citizenry, and not appointed by some political hack.... I think he is, in fact, the chief law enforcement officer of the county that elected him, and his police power reaches all over that county, even into the cities and towns in the county.     Havin said that, i think there are "agreements" between the county and the municipalities therein where the "police" may be the lead in law enforcement.  Hopefully, our buddies in the legal profession who are students of this kind of stuff will fill in the details.     The bottom line is, it is very significant, indeed, that county sheriffs are refusing to enforce laws that they deem are unconstitutional at the state and federal level.... Very significant, indeed....     PS-- Got interested and lifted this from the sheriffs association website: http://www.sheriffs.org/sites/default/files/tb/The_Elected_Office_of_Sheriff_-_An_Executive_Summary.pdf   leroy
  10. Mac:  Just saw the thread.... I'll take two (2).....   Thanks, leroy

  12. Remember this:   Putin solved the Islamo troublemakin problem in Chechenia very effectively.  He killed all of 'em he could find after the Beslan School massacre...   He did the Roman thing.... nobody left but widows and small children...   He is a thoroughly serious man....   leroy
  13. HEHEHEHE....  It's a great day for Illinois...   Happy leroy

  15. I'm a Condor fan myself... They make neat stuff at a fair price.   leroy
  16. Some mighty interestin words here:   The first one is that ole vladimir is right.  We are not exceptional RE: our foreign policy... We are exceptional (...i believe, at least...) in our oft stated belief (...in lots of locations, at least...) that "we are all created equal"; and are "equal before the law"... This is something that obama obviously does not believe; nor do most politicians.... Obama is the greatest elitist in modern times (...i believe...)....    Putin may not believe all that "equal stuff"; but he can smell a hypocrite two thirds of the way around the world...  ole vladimir nailed the hypocrite one dead; and by the way, Obama aint the first one... All the "nation building" ones are cut pretty much from the same cloth...   The second one is a great thing... I'm old enough to remember when Alexander Solzhenitsyn, a real Russian hero, wuz booed at Harvard (...A former christian college...) for saying that Mother Russia and it's people were almost exterminated for "...forgetting God...".    He was dismissed as an ignorant ole man by the Harvard elites; when he, in fact, was the father of the Russian hydrogen bomb and a genius physicist and thinker who survived the russian goulag to boot... He, in fact, wuz "the smartest guy in the room"; but the other "smart guys" disgustingly booed his opinions.... Putin is right to calculate that obama and folks like him are hapless, hopeless, deluded, bratty children; who cannot fathom nor afford to think that there is anything greater in the universe than themselves... They believe, in effect, they are "god"....    Invoking God is a masterful tactic to give lip service to a concept that the Harvard elites absolutely abhor -- the idea that there are any transcendent principles or Beings that are greater than themselves... This pronouncement both blisters and devastates any counter-arguments they might make; using the very words of this country's founding fathers and The God of the Universe, Himself..  That's exactly what he did.    I believe Putin full well knows the obama elitist mindset as well as anyone out there.   He masterfully used the words quoted above to win this little discussion before the American people in a walk...   Putin may be an ex-communist, a ruthless murderer, and a demagogue; but he is also done a masterful analysis of the sickening Harvard elitist mindset...   I'm like some other posters here, i don't believe for a second that Putin believes anything he said here; but he did a helluva job sayin it...  He's right (...for the wrong reasons, i believe....); "....Why don't we mind our own damn business for a change....".   Thank you Vladimir; for correcting and co-opting the hapless jackasses that are currently at the head of this country... Kerry, McCain, and nobama should take a lesson....   leroy
  17. Great job!!!!   leroy
  18. Remember this:.... There's nothin like a little opposition from home to clean up a polititian's thinking on most any subject.   You dont necessarily need to be  successful in your primary campaign to effect changes in behavior... They need to know that you are watchin....   watchin leroy
  19. It evidently aint any fun bein a democrat in a super majority republican state house (...unless, of course; you are from memphis or inner city nashville....)... No largessee gets passed your way.  The folks in her district deserve better anyway....   leroy
  20. I've bookmarked the site... I like em!!   leroy
  21. HEHEHEHE.....  The great democrat politician Tip O'Neil once quipped to student politicians "....All politics is local...."... This son and daughter of satan learned it the hard way.... .  Way to go Coloradans!!  We may need to bring back the "...tar and feathers treatment..."...   Its already been a great day, and its 8:29 am!!   happy leroy
  22. Been waitin for this to come up...  I help in a small church in east tennessee; doin the "bean countin"....  Several years ago when the first "stimulus" came out; the local political class county politicos passed thru federal gubmt stimulus grant dollars earmarked to help feed folks to local churches that had food banks that helped those in need... .   The reason; the churches had the infrastructure and contacts needin the food...    The payback to the gubmt (...i think, at least....) wuz to take the public political credit for "giving" to the needy usin the church as a vehicle to do so... .    The only requirement wuz to be able to demonstrate that ya bought food with it; and that ya handed it out to whomever wuz in need.... .  No names, no record keeping (...other than the usual business recordkeeping...), no "....separation of church and state baloney....", no nothin.  I suspect this one will go away.     leroy
  23. I highly recommend a thorough review of this little video... Raydog is exactly right... Valuable truths are included in this "public service presentation"....   Thanks again, raydog...!!  This is good stuff!!   leroy
  24. Send us your address via pm if ya need to do the surgery thing... Its the retriever health coop in action....   leroy
  25. Check here:  http://oldfaithfulholsters.com/shop/quick-assemble-kit-inside-the-waistband-hip-gun-holster-kit/ Sig 230 is the same as a 232 (...i think...).   My sig 238 works in one of these beautifully... Took all of about 10 minutes to assemble and cost $41.95 plus shipping.... I like these a bunch better than the crossbreed because of the way they are constructed (...screws instead of rivets...).  If ya want a leather holster; get an andrews custom leather.... I really like them too...   leroy
