  1. I use dedicated uppers for 22LR. CMMG barrels/bolts with Black Dog Machine metal lipped mags. Nary a failure of any kind after many rounds. But I keep them clean also. 22LR is kinda nasty ya know. Side note .... If you've never built a rimfire upper, don't make the mistake of going into it thinking it'll cost less than centerfire. It won't. ETA ... For the reader at large ... Also note Handsome Rob's post above. IMHO, ammo choice is the key to .223/5.56. A lot of folks might only be familiar with 55gr FMJ. That's like maybe the WORST choice available for hunting and/or target shooting. It's good for "centerfire plinking", aka dirt clod shooting, I suppose. Not even then if you care about hitting what you're shooting at. Isn't the .gov spec for fmj like 4MOA? MANY choices available with MUCH better results. As always, YMMV
  2. Small frame .... 22LR, 7.62x39, .223/5.56, 6.5 Grendel All can use the same lower(s). You have hunting ranges covered out to 350 - 400 yards. You have target ranges covered easily out to 600+. Common ammo. (Grendel not so much)
  3. Considering squirrel hunting, it's worth mentioning here ... Once ambient temps get up to +/- 50*, using thermal to look up into trees can be quite tricky especially if it's a clear sky w/ bright sunlight. My scope will have a better defined image than the scanner will. (The scope was 2x the price) But even it sometimes has problems. The scanner sometimes simply isn't worth a crap for looking up. In my experience, thermal just works better in colder temps. Period Side notes .... Thermal suffers in high humidity. (Water in the air) It won't work at all if rain is heavy enough. And it won't work at all thru glass. ETA ... One of my favorite thermal stories to tell ... The dog treed once and we could find no sign of a squirrel anywhere. Then I walked around to the other side of the tree and saw that it had a split in it that was maybe 3" wide and 20' tall running up to the first fork in that tree. I looked into the split with thermal and could see the tree rat about half way down the trunk. I'd shoot just below him and he'd move up a little each time. Eventually I ran him out the top and we got him once he exited. Never woulda found him w/o thermal.
  4. AC72 has valuable info. I'm convinced he knows what he's talking about. In regards to your question ... I have a Pulsar scope. (QD mounts are important as well.) Also, the wife and I each have a hand held scanner. IMHO, the value of the capability alone is 2nd only to your weaponry. ETA ... i use the scope more than anything else to squirrel hunt with on a 22LR. Once the leaves fall, those little bushy tailed bastards aint gonna hide from thermal. In fact, I've been on some outings where thermal found more than the dog we had. The scanner has been a welcomed tool in finding deer after the shot is taken. They work the same in daytime as night.
  5. Wow ... thanks for that. When you get toward the end .... a lot of things start to seem a bit too "familiar".

  7. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=B07SWKS65H&ref=nb_sb_noss I bought one of these for my Remlin. Goes well with this .... https://www.amazon.com/s?k=B0104J21V2
  8. Indeed a rarity nowadays! Guy had a Kenmore unit sitting there that was over $4K. Stated that he wouldn't recommend someone even buying that one w/o a protection plan. Similar to automobiles, there is far too much technology involved just to keep your damn food cold. A whole lot to go wrong!
  9. The wife and I bought a new fridge yesterday. From all the info we could gather over the last month, we decided the best route was to assume they're all junk and it's gonna break. We were pretty well told as much by a guy in a local Sears store who seemed pretty knowledgeable. So she ignored brand names, picked out the one that she liked the best, and we paid $189.00 xtra for a 5 year protection plan.
  10. My browser blocked 27 trackers on that foxnews site. Just sayin .....
  11. I called TnArmsCo this morning inquiring specifically about 80% lowers. I was told they have none in stock and none in production. They are waiting on new molds and will start filling orders upon arrival. I then asked about an ETA on said molds .... none.
  12. I have one of the new Wraith models on backorder. I tried an ATN 4K a while back. What a steaming pile of crap that thing was. Stay far far away from anything ATN. If the budget allows, thermal is the way to go.
  13. What I carry to the campsite .... https://www.estwing.com/collections/axes-outdoor/products/leather-sportsmans-axe
  14. Done. Kustoff maybe needs to get the boot.
  15. Added number 8 this morning. A beautifully symmetric 8 point at 25 yards. Not a monster, but pretty dang nice. Nothing but slick heads going forward.
  16. Nothing worth posting pics of here. But including the wife, son, and myself, we've taken 7. 3 scrub bucks and 4 doe so far. Freezer is full, donations to friends, other family, and Hunters for the Hungry. CWD is only a couple counties south from us and is headed north. We're doing our part to try and make a "fire break".
  17. You can post an opinion without submitting any of the information at the bottom of the page. Of course they'll still have your IP address ....
  18. My lovely wife has one for her Glock 17. She put a Holosun RDS on it. It's a lotta fun to shoot and she is very accurate with it out to 25 yards. If ammo was more plentiful, I believe she'd shoot every day if I'd throw targets for her. Oftentimes, we buy a few of those $3 per case sodas and blast away.
  19. For the last 6 months or so, I have been of the opinion that the only safe assumption is that ... Whatever you have right now, is possibly all you will ever have. Buy/use accordingly. ETA: This includes firearms as well.
  20. Never tried the Power Belts. I bought 2 boxes of the Barnes Spitfire TMZ bullets from Knight several years ago and have been using them ever since. The Wolf came with some of the PB's but I think they were 300 grains. So we picked up some of the TC spire points since I was a bit low on the Barnes and we couldn't find anything else because it was so close to opening day. I have a couple more boxes of the Spitfires ordered and we'll try those once they come in. P.S. The wife got her first deer yesterday morning. Spike on one side, broken off on the other. But to listen to her, you'd swear it was one for the record books! It was awesome.
  21. Thanks for the info. In our case, this happens with less than 5 shots. It happened twice while sighting in the rifle over the course of like 8 shots. It might not matter ... I dunno if the pellets actually seat inside that ring, or if they rest on top of it. If they rest on top, then the gap between the pellets and breech plug is widening every time it gets loaded. I suppose it's irrelevant in the overall scheme of things. She has already said that she wants to get a different rifle if she continues to hunt. She wants a Knight. ETA ... Good group Henry347. Sorry for the hijack.
  22. My wife decided she wants to hunt this year so we bought her a new CVA Wolf. It shoots where you point well enough I guess. I've noticed that after a few shots, a ring of powder builds up on the inside of the bore just above the breech plug. I have to remove the breech plug, and use a cleaning jag/patch to "bust" that ring outta there. I was wondering if either of your CVA's do that. We've used only 777 pellets and TC bullets that you mention above.
  23. I have an Eotech 512. I recently wanted another holographic RDS for another firearm. 2 major areas of concern for me were "shake awake" and battery drain. I also don't like looking thru a tube for a zero magnification RDS. I prefer the reflex style. I bought a Holosun 507C. Yes it's China, and not really even China cheap in price! But so far, I'm happy with the product. As for batteries ... It will work with no battery as long as there is ambient light. Even indoors under LED/incandescent lighting.
  24. Would we even know about this situation if POTUS hadn't gotten involved?? I say kudos to him for screeching about it from the oval office. And if he backs out of it, will it be quietly swept under the rug as so many other things are?? I agree that it probably isn't in his job description. If the folks that truly are responsible for it actually did their job, he/we wouldn't have to worry about it.
