  1. MacGyver and Oh Shoot: Too bad it's not in my plans, but a little "caving" might be appropriate!
  2. Just a few hours before launch - dang GOP will probably cave in and make this misadventure legal :(
  3. I've thought about it, even have dies - but would only be practical if I had a bolt gun in that caliber. Or if imports are banned...
  4. During the next 24 to 48 hours, yours truly will be afoot or afloat inside a national park boundary, engaged in sporting activity including fishing and/or hunting, lawfully armed, and with everything else I need except a backcountry permit.   Of course I've hunted, fished, canoed, hiked and camped in these parts long before the NPS had any interest in the place.   I'll let you know how it turns out.   Thanx, Scott Bow aka ttocswob   (NSA there's your code - you can stop now)   (edit title to distinguish from movie tv show I didn't see and game I didn't play.)
  5. Meh...dealer discount hasn't amounted to much the last year or two, anyway.
  6.   Besides, zombie shots are more fun than flu shots...
  7.   I personally know a number of people who DEPEND on hunting and fishing for sustenance. Many of whom chose not to have EBT cards.
  8. Try these: Toyo Open Country A/T II   Put these on my 4-Runner last year. They have an aggressive tread pattern, yet are fairly quiet even at highway speeds.   NRA's American Rifleman had a good review a month or two ago.
  9. Cobwebs? This thread is so old the spiders don't hang around anymore.   I have an, "Am I the only one who didn't get any guns from the ATF?" shirt, an Appleseed T, a Browning logo shirt, a couple of NRA caps, and Gadsden flag tees. Wear 'em sometimes.
  10. A couple of good ammo options for the LCR, IMO:   Remington Golden Saber 125g JHP - chrono 1,114 fps - what I carry.   Fiocchi Extrema 158g XTP's - chrono 1,033 fps. Darn good for a heavy bullet from a snubby. SG had these reasonably priced before the crunch.   Haven't paid attention to the cylinder issue, but my S&W model 36 will turn fairly easy by hand, with no pressure on the trigger; but locks up tight when trigger is pulled.
  11. So I guess you're now a certified "passer-by" - and bonus points for going back for the berrial.
  12. I may be slow, but I'm ahead of you ;)   Congrats, fellow newb!
  13.   Yeah, at my current posting rate...I'll catch you in....55 years or so.   I'm charging on like a herd of turtles, so look out!
  14. Yep, took about 4-1/2 years of my life to reach this magical minor milestone.   In that time, I woke up, got my HCP, C&R, NRA life, JPFO, GOA, & RWVA cards; and more guns and ammo than I care to mention. Oh, and shot my first Appleseed, and came up 27 points short of a patch.   I couldn't have done it without you, TGO. Well, maybe I could have, but probably wouldn't have.   Thanx to all,   Scott
  15. I've noticed that my pocket gaps open when carrying my .357 LCR there. Someone standing nearby can see the grip. The S&W snubby I carried before stayed concealed. I have the standard grip.   Now for the $64,000 question: How does it shoot?
  16.   Edited to add: Use Magnum primers with H110 - and I've also used small rifle primers without a hiccup.
  17. My local Wally actually had your choice of AutoMatch 325r, Golden Bullet 225r, or Winchester 50r, for almost a full day.   I have enough now to stop haunting the ammo counter for awhile. :)
  18.   Yes, although I've yet to take a shot. I have a H&R Trapper Handi Rifle 18.5" and a Rossi 16" lever gun. In the Handi Rifle, 158 grain XTP's over 16.5 grains H110 (max is 16.7) will chrono about 1700 fps, as does the Hornady factory loads. Haven't done as much with the Rossi, but loads typically chrono about 50 fps less than the Handi Rifle.   I've also gotten similar performance with a gas checked 160g wadcutter over 16 g H110 - and this grouped about 2-1/2" at 100 yards.   Either load with either rifle IMO is more than adequate for deer inside 100 yards.
  19. Back in November, they took a nice picture of my Toyota, and even sent me a copy! Only cost me $50   I haven't done anything in Oak Ridge since...
  20. The NY Times should know about lost credibility.
  21.   Pyrodex "P" weighs about 70% of an equivalent volume of FFFg black powder. Pyrodex RS varies only a little, and also works reasonably well in the .44   Your 15 grains by weight equals about 21.5 grains of black powder, a good safe load for even the brass framed Pietta.   A .38 special case filled to level is about 24 grains and works well for me.     Steel is the best way to go if you're spending any money. I got my Pietta cheap, but it's down and out right now with a broken loading ram screw. Balls cast to hard or something.
  22. Smith & Wesson Model 36 - bought gently used late 80's. Spent too much time lost in the trunk so it's a little rough, but still shoots. Right now it's still in my vehicle, too.
  23. Verizon: "Do you hear me now?"   0bama: "Yes, We Can!"
  24. I sign and date copies before sending - although I have faxed copies later, (to vendors that accept faxed c&r's, some don't) - with no problem.
