  1. From the Hunting Guide .pdf, the legal weapons chart above is proceeded by:     IIRC, buckshot is legal only for non-game species such as coyote.
  2. Guess "cat head biscuits" are related somehow.   No pets were harmed in the composition of this post.
  3. Bad things happen at events where DHS is present.   Almost like they get advance notice, or something... :tinfoil:
  4. "I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."
  5.   Agreed, but there are certain exceptions. I load .357 Magnum with H110, which suffers from inconsistent ignition if light charges are used. I load just under the maximum. Blue Dot is another powder that works best with a full case. So-so in .357 & .38 - but gave me the smallest SD (11) I've loaded in 9mm with a 130g LRN and a charge into +P territory. YMMV
  6. AS of January, I had plenty of Federal and Golden Bullet bricks, but was short on quality .22 ammo. Since then 1 I've bought:   CCI Mini Mag HP - 100 Winchester HV HP - 100 Federal AutoMatch - 325   All above at local Walmart at normal price.   Remington Thunderbolt - 500 (bulk package 10 boxes of 50 from Midway) Near normal price but for shipping. Not exactly quality ammo, but my rifles shoot well with 40 grain LRN, so...   Federal HV Match - 500 (bulk package 10 boxes of 50 from Lebanon GS) This is the only "overpriced" buy for me, about $55 & tax. Same bullet weight and velocity as AutoMatch, but better packaging, individually in plastic trays.   Soooo - it's available if you're patient.
  7. Too long IMO is when you forget what powder is in there. And the "forgetfulness interval" gets shorter with age ;)
  8. Thanx, Loon and Celtic, looking forward to meeting you.   From everything I've read, IMO Appleseed is well worth the modest cost. There's a lot that wasn't taught in public school even 45 years ago. Yes I was there then...   As to marksmanship, I need all the help I can get... :)
  9. Thread resurrection:   I registered for the Appleseed in Manchester on June 29-30th. I was holding out to do this with my son, but the schedule didn't work out, so I'm going it alone.   Anyone else?
  10. My 2004 Toyota 4-Runner 6 cylinder has a 5k oil change interval. I've kept to that, breaking it in with conventional, then blended, then full synthetic ever since.   113k and no engine problems at all. I have noticed that gas mileage drops a bit in the last 1500 miles or so before a change.   My other trucks get changed once a year whether they need it or not. ;)
  11.   I liked what you meant to say.
  12. Does your mother's house have any more friends? /jk   Beautiful rifle!
  13. I tried the Skinner on my 336 in .35 Remington. I wanted to keep the original front sight so I tried the low profile version. Mistake for me, since the holes on my receiver were a little off center, and I didn't have enough drift on the front sight to compensate.   BTW, used the stock buckhorns during deer season, when glare and poor eyesight almost cost me a young buck. Good thing he hung around for a second shot.   Anyway, I have a Weaver rail now, and am thinking about the Bushnell Banner BDC scope. Or I may just save my money and use something in my closet.
  14. .357 Magnum - 1.5k (about 500 JHP) .38 Special - 1k (about 200 JHP)   The above feed a family of 3 revolvers and 2 rifles, used for hunting as well as self defense.   9mm - 1k (100 JHP) (My Ruger is a SHTF pistol, and otherwise a brass producer for the Makarov's)   9mm Makarov 1.5k (about 100 Hornady and 400 Silver Bear JHP) .32ACP 500 (most of it JHP) shared with the lady of the house.   Not including reloads, reloading supplies, or emergency stash(es.)   I typically carry either the .357 LCR or one of the Makarovs, with the KelTec P-32 as backup. Each with an extra mag, or two speed loaders/strips, plus a box to reload all that in my vehicle or carry bag.
  15. My Wally had Fed AutoMatch .22, Fed 9mm 50 & 100 cnt, UMC 9mm 250cnt, 40s&w, 45 acp, .380 some kinda commie brand, and a box of .38's UMC.   ...after church!   Supplies may be catching up a bit.
  16. If you already have a press, there's very little difference in cost (< $3 at Midway) between a Lee Loader and a set of Lee dies.   I haven't loaded any yet (got the stuff if necessary), but based on reloading book(s) BL-C(2) looks like a good candidate.
  17.   Above info from Midway USA   I managed to grab a couple of items from my wish list to get over the $40 minimum for dealer. Still, $15.43 to ship a $46.47 order. :(
  18. Thanx. Checked the Castboolits forum and found someone else successfully using 9mm dies. Also some mentions of the HBWC, with the variation of bore diameters in .38 S&W, this should provide a better gas seal.   I may buy/trade for this pistol, just for fun. If so, I'll slug the bore, etc. Also found load data for the .38 Short Colt with a 135g LRN, should be a good starting point for the boolits I have now.
  19. Not too unusual - I've bought Hornady ammo with Hornady, Frontier, and Starline headstamps; Fiocchi with Fiocchi and Starline brass also.
  20. Nope - just got shipping confirmation!   And I ordered a couple of other items to mitigate the shipping somewhat.
  21. Something stinks to high heaven about this.   The story was first reported by Fox 31 Denver then blogged by David Codrea and Michael Bane. Both independently confirmed details of the story before posting, and both are very credible individuals.
  22. Oddly enough - I have a P32 (.32ACP) which likes the Fiocchi Extrema, with Hornady XTP's I have several boxes, most is nickel, but some is brass.   I bought all from Sportsman's Guide before the drought.   I also shot a box of Monarch FMJ brass when I first bought the pistol. They all worked.
  23. A friend at work just bought a H&R top break revolver in this caliber, and can't find ammo. Digging through my box o stuff, I found a single piece of .38 S&W nickel plated brass...so...   Since I had nothing else to do (!) I went through my books to see if I could make shootable ammo with my current dies, etc. To my surprise, diameter of 9mm is .005 less at the mouth and base, and the S&W case is slightly longer. So by short stroking the sizer die a bit, I got fairly close. My best available bullet was a 9mm 132 g RN from my Lee mold. A bit small, but I dipped in hot wax to fill the lube ring, and loaded over 2.5 g Bullseye.   My friend "Barney" put the lone bullet in his shirt pocket, then tried it in his gun last night. It fit all cylinders, and he was brave enough to fire it. Success!   Now for the questions. Available bullets (several 9mm .38 .357) are smaller than the recommended .361 - .362 for caliber. Would a paper patch help? Also don't have a good crimp option, as the round is too short and fat for my .38 factory criimp die - will the 9mm taper crimp be enough? Any other suggestions, besides don't do this?   I found brass at Midway. I'd hate to keep loading the same single round over and over...
