  1. Using EBT SHOULD be demeaning, SHOULD require picture ID to use, SHOULD be subject to random blood test. Absolutely. EXACTLY! Reagen, I think. Ages and ages ago I saw a political cartoon of liberal and conservative ways to help the poor. The poor were depicted in a deep valley in both shots. The liberal method was lowering a large bucket full of money into the chasm with the liberals standing far away from the edge. The conservative method was people hammering together ladders, getting on the edge of the chasm and hoisting people up, and one character looking behind him and yelling WE NEED MORE WOOD!
  2. Just before I left WM, thier policy on active shooters was ADD... Avoid, Deny, Defend Avoid... Hide from the guy. For example, if you were in a room with a windowed door, shut off the light, lock the door and stay out of the windows' sight. Deny... get customers and staff the hell out of the store. Block his mobility (shopping carts, displays, whatever) Defend... if no other choice, throw things at him, fight him, do NOT fight fair. The "do not fight fair" line always cracked me up... SOB has a gun., damn right I am not gonna fight fair. What, I'm supposed to give him an engraved invite to a duel? This twisto did not fight fair, he flushed the game by activating the fire alarm. Most schools have designated areas for each classroom to go to, and if he was a prior student there, probably he knew where they were... the analogy that gun free zones are "human hunting areas" was most accurate here. I got a look at this guy's face on another website... nobody home in them eyes. I cannot speak to how he got started on this, nor do I care. Two two man teams of armed security that knew the ground would have been enough to take care of this with properly placed headshots. And candidly, that's what you are going to need going forward. NOT mallcop wannabe rambos that get rotated to new sites every week. Dedicated teams. Add if it means closed campuses, fine too. Rather have my kid eating at a cafeteria table than laying on a coroner's table. I stand by my prior statement: Hang him, publicly, openly. Multiple murder such as this cannot be given to a jury. This should be a bench trial. Injection or electrocution, far from the public eye, is NOT "civilized". "Modern", maybe. I recall that Texas was working on a law to where if the preponderance of the evidence showed the murders taking place, you got one appeal after sentence within 60 days, and a needle in your arm within 30 days after if the appeal still had you guilty. If nothing else, hanging shows the State exercising fiscal responsibility ...."This is one joker we are not feeding, housing, guarding, and paying a public defender to defend for years and years, and using a long proven and inexpensive process." my two bits. SWC
  3. No. Hang him, publicly, in as open and public a place as may be found, at high noon. Within the next 14 days, not 114. I don't give a damn if he was "mentally ill". My mind is toward 17 children and their families. But I try not to be too onesided... If someone can provide for me the PRO allowing mass murderers to shoot children without penalty, let's hear it. I thought not. SWC
  4. "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. " Not a perfect fit, but not half bad for a damyankee such as myself. --- In sum, for all the commentary on this subject: Reciprocity is bad, 'cause it can be twisted. The only other seeming remedy would be through the Supremes, which will never happen in any of our lifetimes. So just stick with due and constantly updated research into each state's CCW, and go from there. SWC
  5. Might have been possible before the hard left politicization of the High Court under Jimmeh, Fat Bill and BHO. I fear your quick answer is the correct one. Dammit. SWC
  6. I didn't mean to get you all worked up, sir. I merely asked if there is a remedy to the problem of multiple stats' CCW laws being unified into a simpler universal whole, without the remedy being worse than the problem, as appears to be the case if the Feds run it. SWC
  7. Any limits to what weapons to use? I THINK Arkansas had a spear hunting season on hogs. Might could be that TN does as well.
  8. I'll admit to being miffed at being the dull knife in the drawer for not seeing it in its original form. However, two questions arise. Why didn't BHO, in the very first part of his regime, when he held a super majority in the legislature, ram this down our throats then, if this is so prone to abuse? I also pointed out that if the several states' legislature got together and hammered out a reciprocity package that wasn't on the federal level, the federal legislature would be upset, as it would be taking something to the state level instead of their (/sarc) wiser and better (/sarc) hands. The question arises, though, would a states-driven universal carry law package not be prone to the self-same dangers that these able folks above have noted? Honest so help me, I NEVER understood why some clever bunch, like the NRA, long ago didn't go after all these laws in a bundle and drop them in front of the Supremes, and say "What part of 'shall not be abridged' did these laws' makers not get?" Back when the High Court was a court, and not made into the obvious political football and rest home for activist jurists. So... I was in error for backing this... fine, fine, been wrong before, will be wrong again. Aside from - researching the web of individual state laws on the subject, which appears to be the status quo, - a Federal-run universal plan (drowned in a general and legitimate shout of NAY), - the High Court issuing a omnibus nullification on Constitutional grounds (extremely unlikely), is there some other remedy? SWC
  9. "My name is Jones. I carry a fire arm...(unbuttons coat, showing pistol), and I am running for President." That'd be a landslide. I wondered if Reagan or 43 might have carried... Reagan after Hinkly shot him, and 43 after 9/11. BHO... with a firearm...
  10. Did he gift one to the President? Come to that... when last did we HAVE a President that carried? Jackson? Grant? Clearly not Fat Bill.... he couldn't even hold on to the biscuit.
  11. Coming up with fifty delegations to hammer out a common CCW, independent of the Feds and not subject to changes from republic to statist, would be nice. The federal House and Senate would have screaming fits. SWC
  12. Pretty much. I didn't mind it so much back when, when the late Mike Wallace and the late Morley Safer were there. Always seemed to me that Safer looked to be older, although Wallace was some 13 years senior. Full reciprocity is gonna chuck a bunch of confusion into non-gunstore retail stores that sell firearms. As an example, my former employer, Walmart, in Nevada cannot sell firearms to anyone but Nevadans, Idahoans, Utahns, and Oregonians. (California was offered; they turned it down.) One of the ways to expedite the process of having to call BATF for a back-ground check, at least for Nevadans, is to have a concealed weapons permit. The CCW check, paperwork, classes and such that they go thru meets or exceeds that of a standard background check, or so's the assumption. National reciprocity would tear all that down, or so I see it, widening sales here in Las Vegas for sure, as a lot of tourists have wanted to buy, but were unable to owing to the above stricture. National reciprocity is NOT without some sharp edges. But overall, I think the good it could do outweighs the bad. (climbing into fireproof suit for rebuttals) SWC
  13. I think the premise behind trying to get an American company is to assure a reliable flow of these weapons, where the military would not be getting cut off by embargo or war. And did the DOD not field a set of specs to potential contractees saying "this is the minunum we expect"? Or is this whole thing just an exercise in pocket lining by a bunch of cake-eating yahoos? SWC
  14. UPDATE the .30/.50 sized ammo can sets Costco is selling are $18.97/set. Gasketed, steel, flat OD, no markings. SWC
  15. Completely understandable. That said.... https://youtu.be/5V7bPyOFpys SWC
  16. I have a couple of the inexpensive Baofeng Ham radios and a solar charger for them in my bug-out bag. The programming software makes setting them up a lot easier/faster, and I picked up the software and cable for around $9 on EBay. All things considered, pretty economical back-up comms in an emergency. KK4LNX Still be a good idea to figure out the manual programming, print it out, laminate, and put 2-3 copies in the BOB just in case. I'm doing as much of that as I can pre-move. Having an array of differing radios, it is a challenge. SWC
  17. Nor I. "Didn't mean to", at its furthermost stretch, means ONE shot THe above injuries could be as many as FOUR. IN theory, if you lined it up in a billions to one trajectory, you MIGHT be able to do it with one. "Zero tolerance"? And how did the parent or parents get so slack, either leaving a weapon out for her to take, or her being able to get means to get a weapon? THere's a lot more to this and we won't know very much because she's a minor. GMAFB. SWC
  18. Or, from John Bunyan's A Pilgrim's Progress, the Slough of Despond.
  19. Coffee will help with that, surely. SWC
  20. "You screwed up large. Turn in your stuff, you're fired." SWC
  21. So this pommeshanniy female, who thinks that an officer IN UNIFORM is going to waste his valuable time to lay in wait for her ridiculously stupid carcass, gets to have him leave the restaurant, and nothing happens to her. HE gets smears, and SHE snipes. No mention of HER name, I see. So much for confronting one's accuser, never mind due process. The officer was a class act in this, as he could have just dug his heels in and asked to be shown where was the appropriate signage forbidding his carry, and for the exemption this establishment had that could make him not carry. Instead, as stated, he was a class act, and the female was being some self-entitled HCI charlie uniform november tango, looking for fame, a power trip, a free meal, or any combination. Or so I see it. My restauranting out here has been to one of the 'locals' casinos. They serve well, of good size and quality of portion. The firearms situation is clearly posted at all doors, and in-uniform LEO is exempt. The above female would have surrounded by the casino security, perp-walked to their offices and read off the property as an undesirable, never to return, on pain of arrest. She could have pitched all the screeching she wanted, too... no one would have given two s*bleep*s or a good g*bleep*. I should think the manager would have WANTED the officer over the harpy... "We're so good, LEO comes HERE!" If it hasn't been figured out, I am fully on the side of the officer, and Outback etc will not be receiving my patronage, ever. SWC
  22. Congratulations to you and yours.
  23. I never quite understood why the 1911a1 was taken from military service. Does anyone have hard, objective data on this? Understand, I once had a chance to check out Janes' smalll arms volume, and one thing that stuck in my head was the line to the effect,"Overall, the 1911 series of semiautomatic pistol may be regarded as one of the finest combat pistols in the world."
  24. One of my fellows out here has two rolls of silver dimes expressly for soldering together a still, as he doesn't trust lead solder as far as he can throw it. For me, I'd have four, just in case. A post shtf run of calvados? Sounds interesting. I'm trying to remember where to get brewer's yeast... Getting Fleischman's baker's yeast in them little red foil packs is easy-peasy, to be sure, but I can NOT, for the life of me, remember the brewer's yeast. Booze would make a great trade item, to be sure... and higher alcohol content would make an excellent disinfectant for wounds, among other uses.
  25. Firehouse Subs in TN? I AM emigrating to the Promised Land ! But yes, working as much of your preps into your 'everyday' is only sensible. Bucket gardening will be my preferred way til I can get the land I want. While I have a Foodsaver setup, I also have a Ball Blue Book and will be canning as well as sealing as fast as I can once set up. ALAS BABYLON had a very silly thing about making up a carton of luxury foods and hiding them away. Then, too, AB was as stupidly optimistic as WARDAY. But you are absolutely correct... use it or lose it. SWC a/k/a KI7CIL
