  1. I once fired a very hot hand load .357 maximum from a 10" contender with no hearing protection. It felt like somebody hit me in the head with a ball bat. My ears rang for 2 days. That and years of skill saws and really loud bands and both ears ring all the time. Also can't hear over 10,000 hz. Protect you hearing when you are young
  2. I know a teacher that asked her first grade class what they wanted to be when they grow up. One little girl said "I want to be a drawer" The teacher said "O, you want to be an artist? To which the little girl replied "Hell no. I want to draw a check like my mom and grandma.
  3. My wife's cousin is a disabled Vietnam Vet. I am astonished when I hear his troubles with the VA. Often, after waiting weeks or months for an appointment, when he arrives he is told the person he was supposed to see "went home early" He is rated 65% service related disability but it seems like it should be 100%. He can barely get to the grocery much less work. Truly a sad way to treat those that gave so much
  4. The weirdest thing to me is other customers just strolling by like people on the floor fighting for a gun is no big deal
  5. It's O K. They probably don't have any bullets
  6. Prayers for you. I know how it feels to get hit with an unexpected diagnosis, and you have been hit by a 350 pound lineman, but hang in there. A good attitude (and some modern medical treatment) will pull you through.
  7. The ceiling is the porch. It's really the only concrete that is exposed on the outside and the inside. No wet areas anywhere else. I talked to our contractor today. He thinks just putting a good tight door on the room will keep the warm air from the house out and let the area under the porch get cool enough that I won't get condensation. I still think some kind of insulation is needed. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
  8. I will try a dehumidifier. I will have to get a door on that area first. When I said unfinished basement, it just doesn't have sheet rock but is actually part of the house. No dirt floor or openings to outside.
  9. The area is 8' x 40' x 10' high. The floor is concrete with a vapor barrier, the walls are about 80% below grade and are waterproofed the same as the rest of the basement walls. The ceiling is 4-5" of concrete over corrugated steel (core form I think it's called) and is under the roof of the house. There is no opening to the outside, only a doorway to a unfinished part of the basement. I'm pretty sure the water is not leaking in from outside but is condensing when the ceiling is cold. When it's above about 40 degrees outside, no problem. I tried running a small heater, but it didn't help or made it worse.
  10. Our house has a large area under the front porch. All walls are poured block, the floor is concrete and the ceiling is concrete over metal form steel. I had hoped to use it for long term storage and a storm shelter. The problem is that when the weather is cold moisture condenses on the ceiling and it rains inside. I thought about having it spray foamed, but they want $1,000 minimum to do the job. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop the rain?

    2 new Hi Point 9C

I bought at the last Knoxville gun show. I will have to look up the dealers name.  Actually cheaper than I had seen them anywhere
  12. my sons each got a Hi Pont 9C today. we took them out and ran a couple of mags through both. no failures of any kind. good start!
  13. chapman why still had 22 at 11:00. No line. Also had all sq(or something like that) 20%off. Bought some 5.56 for $ .30 a round
  14. Randall53, Don't take it too hard, I have often thought of the same problem. When the wife and I started building I actually looked into using insulated forms, where you end up with a solid concrete house which is then finished normally on both sides. Unfortunately the cost was well beyond our budget and the wife wouldn't go for the 18-20 inch thick walls, even if we could have afforded it. We will have a retreat room which is poured concrete block with a solid concrete ceiling. Not impenetrable but definitely will give me time to shoot back. Just do the best you can.
  15. My Comcast sucked all day yesterday.
  16. I have a friend that shot one with a shotgun. Who knew they can apparently follow the disturbance back to its point of origin. I wish I had a picture.
  17. I shop there too. A couple of times I gave the sporting goods guy a sob story about needing a couple boxes for this or that and he went behind the counter and produced the needed ammo. I am guessing he saves it for the "regulars"
  18. If nobody cares what I might post and I sure as hell don't care what somebody else posts, why would I want to waste my time? That's the great thing, you can use it all you want and I don't have to.
  19. I guess I will continue not using Facebook, twitter or any other social media. I just prefer that fewer people rather than more know my business. I don't do much that is illegal however I think it would be hard to go through life without breaking any laws.  I would guess that I probably know somebody who knows somebody that might be breaking a lot of laws or associating with a group that I don't want to be associated with.
  20. I admire your self assurance. Sorry to say I am not that sure.
  21. It is already happening http://rt.com/usa/nsa-prism-classified-data-collection-348/
  22. It won't prevent it from happening, however the more info that is in your profile the more likely you are to be caught in a widely thrown net.
