  1. I don't believe it's an everyone kinda thing. Just length of time since your last photo. In my case I've had my TN Permit for 12 years since my last photo. Makes sense to me I needed to have an updated photo.
  2. Truth here! I've had/seen issues with pretty much every ammo maker through the years, but it's a remarkably low percentage of occurrences. I've fired a fair amount of Freedom Munitions and used a lot of their components (X-treme bullets) in handloads and have been pleased with the results. I've probably had more issues with Winchester White box, but that's because it was once less expensive than handloading and therefore purely a volume thing. The best and safest practice is to check every round we placed in a mag, but sometimes it's just gonna be a bad round.
  3. I was just about to post this link! Thank you. As we record these episodes (work/shift related etc) I watched the finale Monday and the crossover yesterday. "Suspension of disbelief" is helpful...but I was entertained. btw I agree with Maggie!
  4. It is Dr. House this time! LOL Excellent review and good for you for taking your classes on the road Sir. I especially appreciate your teaching of the "Metro Ready" (was not familiar with the term) and "turn of concept" teaching of the 4 Firearms Safety Rules into the "4 Firearm Safety Rules Lifestyle". Thank you! I'll be including the Metro Ready into my dry fire and live fire practice. Jamie eta: iirc you posted a vid where you guys were incorporating this concept...i.e. not inadvertently covering no shoots in a man on man competition. Or am I making stuff up again? LOL Found it!
  5. Save a spot for me! I am looking forward to this class. Thank you Randy and GTG!
  6. True this! I have some old Old Hickory kitchen knives I've has since the late 70's and they get razor sharp extremely easily. Minimal effort on my part. I have to make sure we have band-aids in the kitchen for my wife, and warn her, when I sharpen them. I picked up a couple of additional Old Hickory's about 8-9 years ago, and while decent knives, they don't hold a candle to my earlier versions. Jab...I agree, stainless steel Old Hickory's are a blasphemous proposition. But your analogy is a bit troubling...
  7. LOL. Yep...26 oz is a typical round bold fashioned box of salt. I would imagine the Tony's you pick up in a grocery store is made with less salt. Home made is definitely better imho. Have you ever seen any of the Justin Wilson cooking videos? He was on MS public or Educational TV back in my younger days. It'd probably frighten most "health conscious" folks to see the amount of salt he routinely used in preparing his most excellent Cajun dishes.
  8. This is an effort to make amends for posting what turned out to be a one day only manager special...I checked again yesterday and the fryers were back up to $0.88/lb. Here is the recipe for Tony's Seasoning. It from Tony Chachere's Cajun Country Cookbook. I picked up my copy around 1978-79 and started making this seasoning....long before it was manufactured commercially. link to cookbook: https://www.amazon.com/Tony-Chacheres-Cajun-Country-Cookbook/dp/0960458018 Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning Recipe By : Tony Chachere Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 26 ounces salt 1 1/2 ounces black pepper – ground 2 ounces red pepper – ground 1 ounce garlic powder 1 ounce chili powder 1 ounce Monosodium glutamate -- (Accent) Mix well and use like s When it's salty enough, it's seasoned to perfection. For barbeque and fried foods: Season food all over. Cook as usual.
  9. oops...I obviously need to work on my reading and comprehension skills LOL Excellent review none the less! And I have no doubt Dr.House's reviews will be great as well.
  10. Excellent review by Dr.House. And Sherman is definitely a "trusted source"! Congrats Lee! I saw your thread on PF and there were some superbad .45-70's in that class. Wow! I especially liked the takedown version that one gentleman had. Very sweet. I have a Marlin 336 I've owned since the mid 1960's. I have a set of Williams peep sights on it. Now you've got me wanting to run a few hundred rounds through it! Dang...guess I better hit the reloading press this afternoon. LOL Here's a link to a vid from jlw's YT channel: (hope you don't mind my listing it)
  11. Whew! Glad I took the pic! I even asked the meat department manager...West Knoxville/Farragut store. Sorry it's not available in other locations folks.
  12. I forgot to attach this pic in my first post. Just in case they give you a runaround Bersa. Caution...Tony's is addictive!
  13. I always check the Weekly ad at Kroger's and must have missed this one! $0.29 lb for whole fryers. Several are gonna be vac sealed (will last 1-2 years and no freezer burn) and one is in the oven as I type this. This is Monday 4/2/18 and the sale should run through tomorrow. If you haven't had Tony's Opelousas baked chicken I feel sorry for you. Time to get your Cajun on! Not all food storage has to be freeze dried... Have a great day folks. 14. Greetings! Glad you found the forum. Great folks and quite knowledgeable.
  15. I agree GTG. Excellent writeup! Neil (he's been to a couple of classes out your way) had a Galco Ankle Glove for a G26 and spoke highly of it. I've only toyed with the concept, but can see great value, especially for the circumstances you describe. Back about 15-16 years ago a well known and respected trainer had picked up a new (at the time) subcompact 9mm and was carrying it in an Uncle Mike's ankle holster jury rigged up with a piece of duct tape. He could easily have afforded a much more expensive custom made holster, and would probably have been given one for T&E, but seemed quite happy with his slightly modified rig. But he too mentioned the necessity of the calf strap for security and comfort. I like the use of the neoprene mousepad! Smart my friend.
  16. Time travel is fun! I have an Aimpoint PRO and love that sucker. As mentioned it's a great value and quality made. I also have a couple of Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dots and they serve me very well. I need to take a look at the Strike Eagle and PA offerings.
  17. I have 2 of the Primary Arms advanced micro red dots as well. I'm with Chuck on these. Great value. A bud has a Holosun and it quite nice and holding up well on his 300 BLK SBR.
  18. Welcome to TGO.
  19. As above I renewed in person on the 20th. I received my physical permit in the mail a few minutes ago. not bad.
  20. Thank you gentlemen for the excellent input and food for thought! Randy, I thoroughly agree that Alternative Indexing Methods, especially as you teach, at the appropriate distance, is an solid consideration. Actually a necessity. In one of the interviews with Mr. Rehn he mentions being in contact with one of the manufacturers and suggesting the produce a reticle similar to that used in the EOTech sights as the larger circle would allow a more rapid acquisition of the smaller center dot when engaging close range targets rapidly. @deerslayer makes some good points regarding the potential for the RDS to fog. I've read various suggestions to mitigate this, but it may simply be the technology just isn't quite "there" yet... Distance and sight visualization is my greatest challenge with the current state of my aging eyes. Yet I can't foresee many scenarios where a distance greater than 25 yards would be applicable to me...certainly some, but that are very specific and few. The 3-5 yards that Tom Givens and Claude Werner often cite is obviously the primary consideration in a self defense context.
  21. This pic that Mac posted in the "Money Bomb" thread got my attention. They are organized. They have funding. They have the main stream media. All good points already brought up in this thread. I vote. I write (e-mail). I belong to pro-gun organizations. I introduce new folks to firearms and it's always been a positive experience for both them and me. But as Dolo so well said, we better come together on this because we have everything to lose.
  22. @Cruel Hand Luke You are a knowledgeable gentleman on this topic. I know you're busy, but your thoughts would be appreciated, when time allows.
  23. I must live under a rock! I recently learned of this study from a Mike Seeklander podcast interviewing Karl Rehn. I've done some "short block" training with Mr.Rehn at a couple of Tac Con's years ago. Very sharp guy. Mr. Rehn is an engineer by trade and a very analytical gentleman. He runs KR Training in Texas and holds GM rating in multiple categories. He's an excellent teacher and instructor. I have been considering a RDS system for my handguns as old age in no longer creeping, but running rapidly straight at me! I've been reading what I could from knowledgeable and trusted sources. Generally the advice is to put in the work and the RDS system will preform. Most seem to agree that MRDS systems improve distance shooting, and from my very limited experience this is so in my case. But we all know it's the first accurate hit on the attacker that counts. "Attacker" implies that we must recognize the threat, react accordingly, draw our handgun, and lawfully and accurately engage. Finding the Red dot in the window, at close range, rapidly... that appears to be a challenge for many. Again, dedication and practice...lots and lots of dry fire practice is recommended. Sounds reasonable to me. What surprised me from Mr.Rehn's study, several things actually, but that a green laser worked out to be faster and more repeatable within his parameters. Interesting indeed. I've only considered a Trijicon MRDS at this point but I would appreciate any input, knowledge, and experience of the members here. I am exploring my options. I've included links to a few writings and sites I've mentioned above or have listened to interviews with. 24. Welcome to TN and TGO.
  25. Bumping this up as it is the 24th. I just donated to GOA, NRA, NRA-ILA, and TFA. I hope you folks will do the same.
