Primer on "Hi-Tek" bullet coatings....
Jamie Jackson replied to leroy's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Brasil is right on the money. We've gone through at least 5000 rounds and have great results. We even push some of the 9mm rounds to 1300+ fps and still no issues. Here's a link to Dolomite's excellent thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/73808-powder-coating-the-super-duper-easy-way/ Red...I like your reversed HBWC. I used to load .38's in such a manner "back in the day". How is your inflight stability on these? I might try and work up some for Brasil and myself (but in .38). -
Never buy a Stihl Chainsaw
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
LOL....Great movie mijo. "Dalton's" barn loft was a lot nicer than mine... but I'd remind folks more of Emmet than Dalton. :pleased: -
But alas, no 9mm G 26. Maybe one day...
-
Glock simply needs to make single stack 26! But alas...not yet. I did shoot a friends micro XD...7 round mag IIRC...a few weeks ago. Sweet and reliable little gun. He pocket carries it in a kydex holster he had made. I haven't tried a Shield yet..hopefully soon.

I understand jonathon. A well aired space is definitely required. Maybe Daniel will chime in as he is connected with Falcon bullets (his sponsor). DLMeadows here on TGO. Good guy...others may argue... Falcon bullets are top notch btw.

It definitely is a "buyers" market right now...AR & AK mags are the cheapest I've seen them since I don't know when. They are quite simply money in the bank. I have about 10 Thermold AR mags I picked up back in '93-'94 for less than $5.00 each. They work....at least for semiautos. They didn't hold up worth a darn running in a couple of fullatuo 5.56 guns back then... Now I wouldn't trust them for self defense, I have proven reliable mags, GI and Magpul, for that. But for range use? I'm pleased with mine. :2cents:

jonathon; It sounds as though you possibly don't want to cast them yourself, but I just wanted to say it is incredibly easy and will save you a bundle in the future. We (our group) started casting and powder coating this year, and I wish now we hadn't waited so long. We can actually afford to shoot now. Another option, if you can find affordable lead lubed bullets is to simply melt the lube ring off in an oven. I believe it was Dolomite that I first saw mention this. nonetheless, whatever your decision, best of luck and success to you.

Never buy a Stihl Chainsaw
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I hadn't even considered hitting the pawn shops. Great idea. Since the concept of redundancy is a hallmark of prepping, maybe I can convince the missus I need to check out a pawn shop for an extra Stihl product. Can't hurt to try. :pleased: Great info and stories folks. Thanks for the input. Here I thought I was the only one that had this problem. LOL. -
Never buy a Stihl Chainsaw
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
It truly made the job much easier. LOL. It does need a companion...I just gotta convince the missus...kinda like needing another Glock. :pleased: -
Never buy a Stihl Chainsaw
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
PackinMama...you guys are doing it right! I have a little McCullough that fine for limb trimming and such...but I was pretty darn happy to have that old Stihl after Katrina... :pleased: Of course we do get a bit of wind up here in East TN as well... -
I have a trainer for baton cert in Chattanooga
Jamie Jackson replied to Junkstack's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Frankly I am too. This is an excellent opportunity to be able to legally carry an impact tool folks. And the price is more than fair. :2cents: -
That is if you ever plan on purchasing another chainsaw...I simply can't wear mine out! I bought this thing in 1983. I was living outside of Kansas City, MO at the time. I lived in a barn loft I renovated and the only heat source I had was a cast iron Franklin stove...for 5 cold winters. I would go through 5-6 cords of a mixture of oak and iron-wood aka hedge or Osage Orange each winter. My little Trail Boss would do everything but stack the wood for me! Awesome little chainsaw. I've gone through 3 bars and countless chains over the past 3 decades. I moved from the K.C. area to the Mississippi Gulf Coast area back in '87. This little sucker helped me out through several hurricanes. But Hey! I'm a guy. I like to buy new "guy stuff" every now and again! But No!!! The darn thing just keeps running! Granted, I have to take the filter off and spray a little carburetor cleaner in it for the first start of the year. But it cranks..and runs...and runs...and runs... Woe is me. :surrender: I think we can all agree that having a chainsaw, a reliable chainsaw, is a must from a preparedness perspective. I guess I shouldn't be complaining... Stihl makes a awesome product and is a true value...at least they were over 30 years ago when I purchased mine... So...Have any of you folks suffered with such a dilemma?

Excellent point! In-fight weapons access needs to be a consideration, imho. I carry a Glock AIWB, but pocket carry a S&W Model 640 on my non-dominant side. The AIWB carry is markedly easier to access while in a tangle, on the ground, even with an adversary sitting on you (we used Glock 17-T's and Sims or Blue Guns for practice/training). But that little 640 is doable. I run a Tyler T and Barami "hip grips" on mine. The grips increase carry location options. My wife gave me the 640 in 1992 and it almost always with me and is the, imho, perfect handgun for non-permissive environments. I like the fact I can have my hand on the grip, while pocketed, and do so in a non-threatening manner. But I guess that can be said about almost any viable pocket carry handgun. I do "dress around" my weapons/tools. I wear Carhartt jeans daily and a version of those I choose that have moderately large front pockets. I am a "jeans & T-shirt" kind of guy anyway. I carry in a Mika pocket holster. link: http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/index.html Just and option and an opinion... edited to add a better pic...

That possibility exists TMF. Nullification through ignoring the law would be an incredible event, appropriate even...I simply can't afford to be a "test case". So I'll probably pony up the tax...But hope it doesn't come to that. After having and shooting one of the little suckers it's hard to "go back".

True Randy... and there we go...paying the SBR privilege tax...

True on many levels...but the NFA is a revenue generating tool. When ever has .gov relinquished a means generating revenue? I wish the NFA would go the hell away too...just isn't likely in this day and age. :2cents:

HCP/CCW - What are you preparing for?
Jamie Jackson replied to D3vo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
What am I preparing for? The Defender's Creed John Farnam I accept and understand that human predators exist. Criminal or terrorist, they take advantage of our civilized society to prey upon the weak. They represent evil and must be confronted and defeated. I believe that self-defense is a moral imperative, and that illegitimate force and illegal violence must be met with righteous indignation and superior violence. I will not rely on others for the security of myself, my family and my community. I proudly proclaim that I run with a like-minded pack. I do not amble through life with the mind-numbed herd. I will train with my chosen weapons, maintain them and carry them in a condition of readiness at all times. I will be mentally prepared and physically equipped to effectively respond to an attack or emergency. I will constantly test myself against realistic standards to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I will turn weakness into strength. I will seek to learn new skills and techniques, and then teach what I have learned to other members of the pack. Be it with firearm or blade, empty hand or blunt object, I will hit my enemies hard, fast and true. I will live a quiet and unobtrusive life, but I will develop and retain the capacity for swift and decisive violence. I recognize that I am the modern equivalent of the traditional Minuteman, and that I may be called to service at any time against heavily armed enemies. I will respond effectively. I accept that I am a pariah among some of my countrymen, and a quaint anachronism to others. I will not hold their ignorance against them. I will win, or die trying. I swear this creed before God, my family and my fellow citizens. -
Love mine. :pleased: I'm saving my pennies for an Aimpoint T1/H1 right now as this little sucker is simply begging for it. I plan to pick up one for an AR pistol build (have the pieces and just haven't put them together yet) and put a 300 BLK upper on it as a "next year" project...Money, you know? I really like Oh Shoot's concept and will model after that.

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Jamie Jackson replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I have it on my nightstand as my next read. I had hopes...but we'll see. I just finished book 9 of the 299 Days series...I am financially invested and because of my OCD state obviously feel the need to see this through... I'm glad it's almost over... :surrender: -

How cool is this...another bumpfire option

Thanks Oh Shoot. When I viewed it on YouTube I could see the full discussion. Fair amount of info there. Much obliged. -
How cool is this...another bumpfire option
Jamie Jackson replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
OK...I'm mechanically-challenged as well as a technotard. Dolomite said "Someone is about to be rich.'. Looks like TMF is up to the challenge... If...if you guys get this tweaked out and decide to market them, please keep us in mind. Even a deconstruct and how-to would be of great benefit. Just hoping... :2cents: -
I've run into this recently with some Winchester 9mm brass....mil crimp...range pickup brass... S&B have extremely tight pockets as well. I inspect the brass first (once I figured out the issue) and do a light ream with a handtool I keep on the bench and they work great after a couple of turns. PIA though isn't it?

So I made a peep sight for my AK
Jamie Jackson replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Dolomite; I am having the exact same sight issues with my M92. If you find the time, would you please post a few more details about how you altered the detent on the rear sight? I'm a very visual learner, so if you have any pics during the process that be immensely helpful. I too opened my rear sight and it helped. But with my aging eyesight I still find the rear site, while using the shoulder brace, too close for my liking. A peep sight would definitely prove an upgrade. Nice work Dolomite and thanks for sharing the info. -
Update: Factory ammo with primer upside down
Jamie Jackson replied to Lumber_Jack's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Yes, I've seen it with Blazer, Win White box, and Remington over the years. It's an inevitability with the volume they produce. Actually, as rare as it is, the mass production QC is pretty darn good imho.
