1. I'd appreciate a head's up on the "Holding Their Own series" too if anybody hears anything about the next book...but yeah...hipower...they sure do mend quickly in that series LOL.     I'm halfway through the The Carrington Effect and it's a decent read so far. And I like the setting being in our region as well.     I just checked out the "Apocalypse Law" series on Amazon and it looks interesting. Thanks Erik. I added them to my "wish list". :pleased:       Forsaking Home by A.American should be mailed out in a few days when it's released. I've enjoyed his works as well.
2. This is excellent info. I honestly had no idea that AIWB carry was an option for USPSA. This has been my preferred and daily carry method for a number of years.   I guess it'll be USPSA for me and I too view it as a form of a training and testing opportunity. I can only hope that IDPA will eventually come around...   Outstanding link Randy. Thank you!     Good Luck and Best wishes to you and Spiffy.
3. LOL...Mike, my head's a scary place to be anyway.   My apologies for the confusion.   molonlabetn...Yes...it's the intermediate cartridges I associate with carbines... Thanks.   I'll try to be more clear...but no promises guys. :pleased:
4.     Well said Sir.     Sorry bird...I use the term carbine when referring to a round such as the 5.56 or 7.62x39...vs a "rifle' caliber round like the 7.61x51 (308) or 7.62x54R...etc,etc,etc...at least that's how it goes inside my head.
5. This has been an interesting read, I agree.   And there has been some sound and thoughtful advice given.   I hope you will be able to actually try each platform out for yourself... a shotgun and a carbine...be it AR,AK. Mossberg, Remington, or whatever suits you. Wherever you are in TN there is probably a TGO'er around that'd be willing to lend a hand. Good folks around here.       I always have a Glock at hand...but keep a carbine and a shotgun handy and readily accessible. All of these, imho, have their niches to fill.     I also still stand by my original recommendation that once you have made your choice you'll seriously consider professional training. That would be the best investment you could make.
6. I currently don't have a need, but appreciate the head's up.   I have no idea what the "new normal" pricing on .22 will be...but this may well around that price mark.     Heck, I've had 1000 rounds of Wolf .22 on backorder from Graf's since Feb 2013. I'll leave it sit and see if it ever ships...   but .22 simply isn't something we can readily make for ourselves, so I'll have to move on some eventually. I hope I don't regret letting this one pass.
7. It is good to re-read that article.   I'm with KKing and Dustbuster on this.   I don't own any "safe queens" and have gone through 1000's of rounds of Wolf and Tula in my AR's and will continue to do so. Guns are tools...I take decent care of mine...but I consider them tools, and they get used, and used hard. Barrels are replaceable and relatively affordable.   I respect that others choose not to shoot steel cased ammo through their guns...but I personally couldn't afford to shoot mine much without the steel cased option.
8. I'm really looking forward to this.       I'm getting e-mails regarding signup as well...is there a "procedure" for this?
9. I've used about 10,000 Wolf primers and 15,000 Tula SPP over the past few years. The only issue I've had were with a batch (5000) of the "lead free" Tula SPP. The lead free required an installation of an extra power striker spring in my Glocks to get reliable ignition out of them. When we got the lead free Tulas shot up, I went back to OEM springs without any problems.   Like David mentioned above...seating depth is critical...and simply requires a little extra attention. I'm not saying that was the problem with yours, just what I've found. Solid advice about the powder charge above as well.   My preference is actually Wolf Small Pistol Magnum primers for 9mm.
10.       See what I mean?  Hooked already.
11.       Good to hear my friend.   Be careful...training with Randy can be addictive.
12. I will definitely be there GTG and Randy.   And I'll try and bring some ne'er do well friends of mine as well... and extra guns...great suggestion GTG.   This will be a great class folks, and you simply cannot beat the price.   Thank you for providing us with this opportunity.
13. Very interesting review and evaluation.   Thanks for posting the links.
14.     I never claimed it made any sense.
15. It looks like Glock does manufacture 9x21 for those countries that allow civilian ownership of handguns, but not in "military calibers", such as Italy. I may be off the mark, but that is my understanding.   http://www.glockbooks.com/gun-digest-book-of-the-glock-review-patrick-sweeney-01.html
16. Thanks Stomper.   I've wanted to attend one of these for some time now...   I still have to check my work schedule but tentatively plan on the November shoot.   Hope to see some fellow TGOer's there.  :usa:
17. I like the visual there Lester.   You ever think about doing any script writing? :pleased:     hipower;   I enjoyed the Ahern series back in the 80's as well.   I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't in some small part influential on the Holding Their Own series. But Holding Their Own is certainly better grounded. :pleased:
18. Good post Lester and Thanks.     I read "A Canticle for Leibowitz" the first time only about 3 years ago. It definitely is very well written.     OS, your description is dead on the money Sir. I would definitely recommend "Leibowitz" to anyone interested in this genre of literature.
19. I just hit the "NO" vote...51% us, 49% them...   Go do it... just to screw with them...
20. Yes Sir...nothing's change except our perspective on the data.   But bullet technology, and actual experiences to use that data wisely vs following dogma has given us better choices than in the past.   I still have a few Super Vel rounds...while they were cutting edge in their day, there is certainly better choices available at this time.   I wholeheartedly agree with point and I'm not trying to be contrary in the least. "Caliber wars", "bullet wars" are legendary on the interweb.     Believe me, I'm a fan of John Browning. I've read Hatcher. I've talked to Jeff Cooper face to face. But I'll carry a modern HP round for self defense any time I have a choice. I am not a believer in the latest and greatest "gadget" round, but appreciate the quality and performance of the ammo available to us these day Good Sir.
21. Interesting site Jonnin.   I agree with you. Marshall and Sanow, Computer Man, even Hatcher have (hopefully) been replaced with more useful and "real world" information.   The FBI studies are sometimes followed by agencies, but are not always the most up to date as far as useful information goes.
22. I don't know if the following will be any benefit or not. Goo luck to you.       http://gundata.org/blog/post/fbi-handgun-ballistics/   1989 pdf at the end of article.     Dr. Gary Roberts:   http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2008Intl/Roberts.pdf   http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm       http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/alternate-look-handgun-stopping-power
23. Look buddy...this is a family oriented forum. I wasn't gonna start talking about nipples..especially your nipples.     But yes...I caught one in the nip too...that flipping smarts. :ugh:
24. Thanks Eric.   That's interesting. Knoxville huh? :pleased:   I added the paperback version to my list for my next order.
25. Brasil was the best patient I had that day !   It was busy as crap...as usual... I got a text "Hurt hand, in ER"...WTF? Since I don't usually get texts (my friends know I'm a technotard)...I went "darn...must be an emergency"..Sure enough. Heck...Brasil needed an update on his Tetanus shot anyway...   Brasil is tough folks. He went on to doing  Randy's class including FOF on Sunday...and no whining at all.       Ted S.   No kidding. I guess I should get my phone number out to the Knoxville area members...and make sure our department is well stocked on sutures. :pleased:
