If I knew I couldn't avoid trouble I would maneuver around it. I'm probably one of the few that has had a sidearm as my primary weapon. I was an APC driver in a scout platoon, no place to put an AR16 or even a grease gun, which we still had in the arsenal. That makes me comfortable saying maneuver around it. I think we agree somewhat. SO my entire point here is at what level are you comfortable? Do you wear body armor when you go out? Do you carry a trauma/first aid kit? Do you have a long gun available in your vehicle? If I play the odds, odds are I will never encounter a situation where I need a firearm. If I do, odds are it will be within ten feet and over in three shots. My pocket rocket weighs less than whatever you carry in 9mm. In fact it weighs less than a good fighting knife. So it always goes with me. At seven yards I can put six rounds on a ten inch plate before you can land three on the same target. I practice with it 99% of my range visits, I know it will hit where I point. (what sights)? With all of that, if I were picking a 9mm why would I pick glock over hi point? (Neither thank you) edit: forgot to add, with 7 yards three shot odds, .357 mag 125gr SJHP is undisputed top of the heap for one shot stops, ballistic gel tests and all other tests. Results vary of course with barrel length but all things equal, it wins. Nope, don't carry one of those either by personal choice.

Everything about this is a compromise. Size, weight, controllability, concealability, accuracy, round capacity. It's all subject to threat level and mission. Handguns are, for the most part, defensive weapons. If I were forced to go to Seattle during the BLM protests I wouldn't carry a handgun willingly. No, a good 12ga and an AR would be my choice for that situation. What we carry is based on multiple factors. How we carry is also. I could ask, Why carry a 45 sized 9mm unless controlling the gun is an issue?

I am certain this is true. I hate those bushy tailed rodents. Not even good eating, too tough. "But they're so cute!" yeah, till they bite you or throw black walnuts at your dog for no good reason.

The old me would say we didn't get in this in one step so we need steps to get out. If we prove this doesn't cause chaos then the next step will be easier. But we DID got here in two steps. We need to push to remove the NFA and FPA limits on our rights. I'm not a criminal and I don't need the gubment tracking what I might own.

Always have wanted a Megastar in 45. I carry a Firestar in that caliber and love everything about it but the weight. Star didn't make light firearms for sure. When I first heard about the RIA 10mm double stack I was very excited. Then I picked one up and it was a hard no. I have owned a Para 14.45 and a Witness 45 and was expecting a double stack 10mm to be thinner not so much thicker that I can't literally get a grip on it. I'll keep looking but so far it seems single stack is going to be the 10 for me. Or maybe a witness. One question for all you 10 shooters, will 40 S&W run in a 10mm?

I usually pocket carry daily, most often even out doing yardwork. I've been trying to re-design a chest rig with a flap for over a year and not gotten it to work to my satisfaction (sorry @Darrell). This has shown me a good use for the Shockwave. Already have a machete on the mower, might as well make a scabbard and get the Shockwave. Any excuse to tell the wife I NEED a new gun Seriously, my two Danes keep the crackheads at bay but one is quite vulnerable while mowing. Wearing hearing protection and concentrating on where you point the mower would make it easy for someone to slip up on you.

I haven't mentioned the Bersa because I've never owned one. I like them, a friend had one, I think they are well designed and built. I just never owned one, yet. I think 380 is adequate for defense in it's place and if one is comfy with it the Bersa would make a fine EDC. I don't like rotating my carry pistol like some and my current "big" gun is a Firestar 45. My P32 goes with me almost everywhere. I'll sometimes leave it if I'm carrying the 45 but most times it's still in my pocket as a NY reload. I say again, "the best gun to have in a gunfight is the one you have with you".

I'm with Greg, best at/for what? I was looking for a P3AT when my FFL came up with a Taurus PT738. I like it almost as well as my KelTec p32. I have the S&W M&P 380EZ on my list, best for new shooters. I would definitely recommend a tilting barrel locked breach rather than fixed barrel pure blowback on smaller pistols.

Worst of it went around us here. Hard hit a few miles north though.

I guess I've watched too many westerns, I love a good, or even not so good derringer. Don't have one at the moment and have other guns higher on the list at the moment. But the first new pistol I bought was an FIE 38 spl derringer. If i knew then what I know now I'd not have worn it out in a few boxes of ammo. +P loads and cheap 38s don't go well together.

I've searched for these ballons and can't find them. This I would do/

The last time I saw that was boxed end first, into a 22R truck tire. It was considerably more worn.

LKQ Heavy Truck. Also good place to find used engines.

I've offered my prayers up for those affected by this latest round of storms. That is the best I can do today. I don't know if the storms are getting stronger. I'm sure the paths are moving as they tend to do over the decades. Earth is dynamic, turning and moving in constant state of shift. I'm with @gregintenn on this one too, are storms more deadly? Sure, there are more people now. I have seen the paths move and return over the years. The Bible says it rains on the just and unjust alike, I think one meaning is the weather goes where it goes, no one is immune or protected.

I had a stainless 971 with unfluted cylinder, very nice piece.

Judge gave her half of everything.

I have read that the first S&W rimfire revolver was quite popular with civil war soldiers who could get one. War would be the only place I would choose round count over concealability or a "better" caliber.

I don't. odds I'm carrying my "mouse gun" 99.99% - odds I'm carrying ANYTHING else 50/50 odds I will hit a vital area 99% odds I'm using quality hollow point 100% odds I'm carrying the one 9mm I own slim I won't debate caliber effectiveness. I agree with @gregintenn if I expected to be in a gunfight I wouldn't carry a pistol. I'd remove myself from the scenario completely unless it was my home. And 380 ACP, 38spl, 357mag, 9mm, and 38 super all make the same hole with FMJ or LRN bullets.

Nothing is 100% regarding firearms. Ask the FBI why they adopted then dropped the 10mm. Ask they army why they adopted then dropped 38spl. One of the reports I read when I studied this involved a police officer responding to an armed robbery. He was shot in the upper arm by a 25ACP, dropped to the sidewalk and died of shock. Shot placement and round choice are #1 and #2. And by round choice I do not mean caliber. One could use a 9mm or 45 with FMJ or LRN and lose the fight without hitting the central nervous system. Hunters will tell you animals will run or continue to attack with a fatal wound. Round choice is dependent upon multiple factors. In theory, you want to expend all of the energy within a short distance. Good hollow points do that. Great hollow points will do it after passing through heavy clothing, windows, plywood, and other barriers. While many will perform well on bare gelatin, once clogged with clothing fibers they won't expand at all. There's a reason our military went to 5.56. A dead combatant takes out one, a wounded combatant takes two out of the fight. the ability to carry more rounds is secondary. 5.56 is also flatter shooting and makes sighting at long and short range easier. The switch from 45 to 9mm was for reduced recoil, more rounds was an extra as was our NATO partners using the same round. These calibers with civilian defensive rounds are quite capable but banned from combat. If you would prefer to carry a knife to a gunfight I hope you are well trained and don't have to fight outside of 7 yards. Even a knife is not 100% unless you hit the central nervous system. for TLDR, maximum system shock stops fights.

I have one of these, comes in handy.

I bought a .380 to replace my EDC. I normally prefer a 45. Yep, I've seen all of the gel tests, read shooting reports, read the goat tests. Nothing beats a 357 mag for stopping threats of the two legged variety. Close second being 45 ACP. But the piece that goes with me always is a KelTec 32. I'm like bersaguy with this pistol, within 7 yards I don't miss point of aim. I won't try to quote any of what I have read, but shot placement is critical in stopping anti-social behavior. Which would I rather have in a gunfight? hands down my Taurus 608 with 125 grain SJHP. But I'm not carrying that every day and I don't shoot revolvers as well as semi-autos. All that said, I'm comfortable with my 32 and there aren't any micro 9s that are even close in size and weight. The 380 was only bought so hopefully the wife will learn and carry the 32. Someone once said the best gun to have in a gunfight is the one you have with you.

Congratulations to you all!

I have to watch my back now. They Think I cut down the apple tree. It was the storm I swear!! Had five of them standing around where I cut it up staring at the tree and back at me.
