  1. Nashville, encouragingly has been going in the right direction - cases in the double digits daily for the first time since June. Masks are pretty much 100% in stores.
  2. Are we talking an heirloom or a nicer daily use blade? A Spyderco PM2 gets my vote in the latter category. In the nicer, but reasonable pocket knife space, I recently picked up a Lionsteel Best man’s knife - mostly because of my love of all things M390 and sheepsfoot: https://www.dlttrading.com/lionsteel-bestman-slipjoint-single-blade-sheepsfoot You might check out some of Great Eastern Cutlery’s stuff if the more traditional folder is your thing.
  3. The state of Mississippi has dismissed all charges against Curtis Flowers: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/04/us/after-6-murder-trials-and-24-years-charges-dropped-against-curtis-flowers.html#click=https://t.co/j5T4TTZxUF
  4. That's cool.
  5. Oh man, I’m sorry to hear this. You often hear that nobody will love you quite as fully as a dog. But, I’d say both of your dogs have gotten pretty lucky, too.
  6. To quote @DaveS - who I hope is enjoying his retirement in Florida, “hogs aren’t particularly hard to kill.” You should use a caliber large enough to reasonably ensure a good ethical kill commensurate with your skill and experience. For some folks, .300 win Mag wouldn’t be enough. For others, .22LR is plenty.
  7. There president of Meharry Medical posted this study on the mounting evidence for Vitamin D maybe being of help (especially to folks who are older, overweight, or black). https://www.thelancet.com/journals/landia/article/PIIS2213-8587(20)30268-0/fulltext#.X005agRPJE4.twitter
  8. Every story needs a bad guy, I guess. I find the most interesting criticism of California comes from within the state itself. I mean, if we really look at the states as a collection of experiments within the nation - California is a unique data point. I'm glad I don't live there. With Covid prompting a lot of remote work - and housing being so expensive on the coast and around the Bay Area - you're likely to see a lot of Californians moving to places that offer a better cost of living. When you think about it - you can buy a 1 bedroom/1 bath mason block former married officers barracks for about $1.5M. Think what that will get you in Memphis or Chattanooga or Nashville?
  9. Man, 4 years next month. I think of him regularly. When I do, I say a prayer for those of y’all who are still here. And I say a prayer that one day our country will have as much zeal for taking care of our vets as they do for creating new ones.
  10. Also. I know sometimes that members passing aren’t necessarily public. We’ve got some members who’ve had a hard go of things and have been in my prayers for years. If you want to PM David or me privately, we can add people to the list.
  11. @Randall53’s stepson lost his fight with post traumatic stress a couple years back. I don’t know that he was a member here - I’ll send him a note.
  12. @Mikefite passed a couple of years ago in an accident.
  13. Good catch. That was Don - @Timestepper He was larger than life in a lot of ways.
  14. If only...
  15. It would appear they’re not quite at rock bottom yet: https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/18/us/nra-josh-powell-tell-all-book/index.html Apparently there’s still a few bucks to be squeezed out of this thing. It’ll sure make the NY AG’s job easier when they turn on each other.
  16. Most warnings on TGO are just that - sort of a timeout to cool down a bit. They’re temporary because the vast majority of people are able to check themselves in a setting that doesn’t lend itself well to nuanced expressions. The actions taken on the original thread were appropriate. It looked like a questionable sales ad - or a vendor trying to skirt the rules. The OP kind of lost it and made his demands regarding our staffing, board rules, etc. David said no. We moved on - until the thread this morning. We make decisions on moderators based on folks we think add to the community - and who are level headed. @Chucktshoes is such a benefit to this community. He is beyond tolerant of such diversity of opinions . He’s on a ton. He closed the thread - and like he said, all of this could have been avoided with a simple PM. Our mods do this out of the goodness of their hearts and their love of this community. Were in such crazy times. It’s a marathon not a sprint right now. Take a good deep breath. We don’t need anyone puking all over their shoes a couple months from now.
  17. Sorry. That’s not how this works.
  18. I'll shoot just about anything. But, I think I might think twice before I shot that.
  19. Oh, I hate this. We’ll keep her in our prayers.
  20. We’re probably in for a couple of bad weeks. https://asafenashville.org
  21. If anything, that timing is likely to help the GOP more than it will the DNC. I think this gives weight to “they’ll take your guns” and some folks might vote Republican who might otherwise be kind of blasé this cycle.
  22. Things are not getting easier for the NRA. Air your dirty laundry in public - turns out somebody might notice. https://www.npr.org/2020/08/06/899712823/new-york-attorney-general-moves-to-dissolve-the-nra-after-fraud-investigation Regardless of what you feel about the suit on its face - the NRA kind of walked into this with their lavish spending.
  23. If y'all are seeing 1-3 days, that's way better than it's been in other parts of the state. At 8-14 days to get results back - I'd argue testing is worthless.
  24. With an average of 8-10 days to get test results back - any employer is going to tell an employee to stay at home while they await the results. Because of the delay - you pretty much have to treat the interim time between getting the tests and getting the results as a presumed positive result. I'd love to see the actual text of the letter - because I expect it says something to that effect. It sucks. And, it's a solvable problem. But here we are.
