  1. My small carry is the Sig 290rs. I love it and I’m excited that the new 365 is basically the same idea but with a larger capacity. Still, I’m gonna wait this one out a couple months to make sure I’m not a beta tester.
  2. I had that thought initially. But, It’s got a very good ceramic coating and all of the other components seem to be very well made. I’m not saying he’s not got a nice margin on it but I imagine a good chunk of that is going to shipping. It’s around 70lbs as delivered.
  3. I have had a itch to get a new smoker lately. While doing some research, I stumbled on the Pit Barrel Smoker. This company is owned by a Iraq war vet and it is 100% made in the USA. I was pretty much sold at this point. Two weeks ago, I made the drive to the nearest dealer. This happens to be an ACE hardware in Gatlinburg. I wanted to take a look at one of these in person before pulling the trigger. Needless to say, it came home with me. You can have it shipped to your door at no additional charge but I didn’t know anyone who had one so I wanted to lay hands on it before purchasing. I’ve gotta day, I’m impressed! I’ve done wings, ribs, pork tenderloin, brats and a whole chicken. Everything has turned out as good or better than previous attempts on my gas powered vertical smoker. This is marketed as “Cooker” and I think the primary reason is the operating temp. It’s pretty much set it and forget it (which is great) but it runs between 265-300 degrees. This is a lot warmer than I’m used to but I can’t argue with the results. The manufacturer has a great website with instructions and recipes which include specific cook times. I’d recommend you check it out if your in the market for a new grill/smoker this spring. https://www.pitbarrelcooker.com/ I attached a picture of the finished products.
  4. They aren’t my favorite but they are functional. I consider the AR to be the Glock of long guns. Ugly but Highly customizable. They do what they are designed to do—send rounds down range without much drama.
  5. Ive got the same pistol from about the same year. Wish I had the pistol pack. The Dan Wesson was grandfathers only handgun. He was a one rifle/handgun/shotgun guy. For what it’s worth, he knew how to operate everyone of them. I wouldn’t give any of the three up for anything now that he’s gone. It’s a solid shooter and quite the looker as well.
  6. FNS9c. Slightly larger than the G26 but more concealable than the G19. 13+1 with a flat baseplate is the sweet spot for me. Toss the 17 round mag with sleeve from the factory in it and you’ve got your home defense gun covered.
  7. Do you own one of these? Have you ever shot one? I won’t fault someone from trying to educate but you have yet to present a first hand account of issues YOU have experienced. Let’s stick to what we know not what we’ve “heard” from someone else who likely has never touched one of these pistols.
  8. I think your right. I’m 99.9% I wouldn’t get involved in wal-marts problems but what happened from there seems to make sense. However, imagine if you witnessed a child/women being abused and you got involved to protect someone who couldn’t protect themselves. Same situation could still arise. I imagine your legal defense would be a bit easier than trying to bust a shoplifter on behalf of a retailer who didn’t soliciate your services.
  9. I’m afraid some people confuse a HCP with a badge. HCP is for getting yourself and your family home safe. A badge is for protecting yourself and the masses. If you have a HCP and save others in the process of protecting yourself or your family, that’s a bonus to the public. This HCP was out of line (in my opinion). It’s not his job to protect the property of Walmart.
  10. **Update—appears to be an ongoing situation** Johnson City, TN - *Updated Press Release* On 01/26/2018 at approximately 8:12 AM, officers of the Johnson City Police Department were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 2915 W. Market Street, in reference to a shots fired call. An investigation into the incident revealed that a patron of the business observed a white male acting suspicious while exiting Wal-Mart with several items in a buggy that were not bagged. The patron approached the suspicious male as he was loading items into a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee and asked to see a receipt for the items. The male jumped into the suspect vehicle as a passenger and the driver displayed what the patron believed to be a handgun and pointed it in his direction. The patron, who has a valid handgun carry permit, fired a round from the weapon he was carrying prior to the suspects fleeing the parking lot onto W. Market Street. A witness to the event followed the suspect vehicle onto McKinley Road off of W. Market Street for a short distance. The driver of the suspect vehicle stopped on the side of the roadway, exited the vehicle while displaying a handgun, and ordered the witness to quit following him. The suspects then fled the area. The suspect vehicle is described as an early-2000’s model gray Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Tennessee tag 6D1-5Z9. The middle row passenger side window is covered with plastic. It was reported stolen out of Bristol, TN on 01/21/18. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was occupied by two males, one white and one of unknown race, and a white female. Officers recovered approximately $1,350 in items left by the suspects that were stolen from Wal-Mart. No injuries or damage have been reported at this time. If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, please contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 434-6166, or to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 434-6158.
  11. Anyone with first hand knowledge of the Walmart shooting in Johnson City? From what little I know, a HCP holder opened fire on someone he/she suspected of shoplifting. I’d love to hear some more details if anyone knows what went down.
  12. Nice grab. I love Dan Wesson revolvers. Very accurate when I do my part.
  13. I’m typically carrying a Sig 290rs or a FNS9c. Sounds like this is somewhere in the middle. I’ll probably pick one up when they hit the local stores.
  14. Seems they are targeting nice neighborhoods. I’m guessing the haul is of higher quality.
  15. We’ve had this problem in our area. People walk around the neighborhood and look inside for something to take. Since all our windows are tinted, I just leave the doors unlocked and nothing in the cars. I don’t want them breaking out a window if I can avoid it. A three car garage would solve this but I’m not dropping the coin anytime soon.
  16. Thank you guys. This is the info I was hoping to find. When looking at access to remote property, is this something I need to take up with the club? We have an outstanding deputy who lives on the same road as the gun club but out side of his house, help would be a long way away with a MAJOR obstruction. If someone had to hike in from then gate, you’d be looking at 1/2 mile or more to the closest range. Probably a mile to the more distant trap range. I’m pretty good at overcoming obstacles but with the layout of the land and the strength of the gate, there’s no way around this one nor is the a way to cut the lock. The gate has bars on it that would prevent someone from pushing it open without punching your radiator. I can throw up a picture but I’d assure you, it’s a heavy piece of metal with no other access points. Thoughts?
  17. Not loosing any weight or size is going to be the challenge. Personally, I would vote for the FNS9 compact. Solid gun. Higher capacity but a little larger footprint which, in my opinion, makes for a much more shootable gun. Carry a 17 round mag as back up if you want. Comes with the spacer/adapter/thingy in the box and the higher capacity mag.
  18. Just wondering what kind of med kit you guys have in your range bag or truck? I need to add the basics and accquire the training on how to use it. Links are welcome and appreciated. Also, the gun club I belong to is in a pretty remote area. One way in/one way out. Lock the HEAVY gate after you enter. In the event of a medical emergency, would first responders have a way to access the property? I can’t locate a Knox box. Do clubs generally issue keys to ALL potential first responders? There’s certainly no way to cut the lock. Thoughts? Thanks!
