  1. Thanks for the feedback. One situation I think about is the unlikely active shooter--specifically at church. I normally carry a larger gun but occasionally in the summer, the j frame gets a ride. If I cannot flee the situation, it seems a long(ish) range shot in single action would be much preferred to a double action shot. I'm just assuming I'm missing something since many top instructors advise against single action.
  2. I've read countless times that cocking a da/sa revolver in a defensive situation would open the door to criminal and civil charges. I would like someone to tell me what I'm missing. Yes, the chance of a negligent discharge goes up significantly but your standard 1911 has about the same trigger pull. I don't see it as "premeditated" since we don't consider flipping a manual safety off as a issue. I'm certainly not planning on getting in a gun fight but this intrigues me since I carry a 637 from time to time. I normally train in double action but when I switch to single action, my range increases significantly. I would think if the situation allows a calculated shot in single action, it would be reckless not to go that route since you would deliver a more accurate shot. Please explain. Thanks in advance
  3. I thought impersonating a federal agent was a felony...... I guess a free drink didn't met the requirements for felony prosecution haha
  4. My FN love started with the full size 9mm. Barrel of a G19 with grip of G17. Nightstand gun for us. I picked up the FNS9c for carry. Love it even more than the full size. It's all the fun of the G26 with 2 extra rounds and better (for me) ergo's.   check this out for size comparison and range report; http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/85331-fns-9-compact-range-report-picture-heavy/
  5. To the OP--nice gun! It's next on my F'N list (pun intended)   I had the talons on my FNS-9 and FNS-9c. Talon makes a great product but on these guns, i prefer the factory finish. Grips are very subjective--you may love them.
  6. I'm curious how the showdown at the DMV went. Any updates?
  7. i don't go bigger than subcompact (Glock 26 or similar) when in FL. Until recently, printing was prohibited and I went with a J-frame IWB most of the time.
  8. Looks nice. I just don't think I want that hanging on my truck. They say you have to know your audience--I know mine and there will be no outward sign of gun ownership on my truck. Rarely is there a gun in the truck that's not on my person. I just don't want someone knocking out my window to check.
  9. Sounds like someone who really appreciates civil service. And don't forget, military service is a "government job".
  10. Clip on the other side? What keeps the pistol in the waistband? I would like to have some for storage. Keep them on the DOA guns while laying in the safe.
  11. If you are unhappy with the service you are receiving, you should call and ask to the supervisor. If that doesn't work, contract your state representative. Walking in with a lawyer will prove to be very ineffective. I would imagine the decisions are made by policy. Policy isn't made in the field office. There is a chance of misinterpreting the policy but that should be cleared by the local management staff. Good luck. In my opinion, you are not going to "solve" the issues you are having in a local office. Attorney in tow or not.
  12. i hate that "being famous" somehow gives you a superior opinion. I am sure they have more influence over the "heard" but notability and intelligence don't  always go together. If in doubt, take a look at Johnny Manziel :wall:   Thankfully, my vote will count the same as all those listed next year.
  13. When i got my edumacation, this meant "more beer needed"
  14. Anyone care to give me a crash course on retention holsters? With the upcoming change in VA policy, i will have to embrace open carry when crossing the state line. I don't think i will need the level of retention used by LEO's but i don't like the idea of open carry without some sort of retention.   Thanks in advance for the assistance!
  15. Looks like Ruger maybe bring another polymer, striker fired pistol to market. I'm mildly interested just because the ergo's look good.

    Baby Rock

I might be missing something but it looks like the "baby rock" has a manual safety also. I second the recommendation of a shield for small carry under $500.   I would also rather have a LCP/LCR, PF-9, PAT380, Kahr CM9, J-Frame smith or taurus TCP. All of the previously mentioned have no manual safety. Full disclosure; i have no experience with the rock posted. Just personal opinion--i would prefer not to beta test firearms.
  17. I'd bite. Dan Wesson made a quality revolver. Even a better deal if made in Monson, Massachusetts. They were all solid. These were thought to be the best of the best.

    Ruger SR45

Brother in law picked one up at academy in Knox last night for $450. It's the two tone model without night sites. Standard model was a few dollars less I believe. I tired to sale my black model with night sites for 400 on here and didn't have much luck.

    Ruger SR45

Don't overlook the FNS-9. It doesn't get a lot of press but you can pick one up new for less than $450. Grip length of a Glock 17 with the barrel of a Glock 19. 17+1 capacity. All the good things about a Glock minus the funky grip angle (my opinion--Glocks are perfect to some eyes).   I have the full size and the compact which i carry daily. Love them both. Between the two, if got thousands of rounds down the pipe without issue.   http://www.fnhusa.com/products/handguns/fns-series/fns-9/   **They have the FNX 45 if you want to stick with a 45. It is on my short list but it's not a inexpensive piece. It is DA/SA. 15+1 of .45 would make one hell of a nightstand gun!   http://www.fnhusa.com/products/handguns/fnx-series/fnx-45-tactical/
  20. Statistics are like a drunk politician---you can make either say whatever you want if you ask the right questions.
  21. I'm driving a 94' silverado with 70k miles on it. I traded my Titan in earlier this year and got my wife a new SUV. I went back and forth between two dealers and never mentioned the trade until we agreed on the sale price of the SUV. Made things a lot simpler to make sure we were comparing apples to apples.   I'm gonna drive this 94' until it doesn't make sense anymore. My daily commute is 8 miles. When the time comes, i'm going to find a base model Silverado 2500 or Ram 2500. 4x4. V8. Crew Cab. Vinyl floors. I don't need a "luxury" truck. I will be looking for a working truck. My profession doesn't require such a vehicle but looking ahead, i want to go with the 2500 in case we decide down the road we want a camper or larger boat. I don't want to trade again for many years.
  22. My secret Santa went way above and beyond also. This is a fantastic gift and i'm amazed by the craftsmanship in these knives. I've drooled over them on the TGO for a long time. I'm very happy to say i now own one. Thanks again Santa--I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
  23. And the high point salesmen of the year award goes to Patton.....
  24. It's a long shot but...... If you are doing the secret Santa and you haven't received a gift yet, maybe you could post some of your interests in this thread. It might make it a little easier on those of us who want to do more than a generic gift card. Thanks in advance!
  25.  We moved into our current home about three years ago. Unfortunately, i have not been diligent in watching our costs since so many things are "out of site/out of mind" thanks in part to auto draft and paperless billing. Today, i started looking at our invoices and i was shocked.   Directv; Pretty basic package. Currently paying $140 per month. I compared this against Comcast and Charter and found we were paying way too much for the service provided. Called them and asked to renegotiate our agreement since we are now out of contract. Now, with taxes we are paying $70 for the same service. Annual savings of $840. Also have a paper bill coming to the house each month.   Centruy Link; 10mbps internet service. Currently paying $70 per month. Again--way too much considering the competition. Contacted Century link and they refused to offer a competitive rate. Charter will be here Thursday to install 60mbps service for $39 per month (tax included). Annual savings of $408   ADT; notified me of a $3.97 cent raise which would push our bill over $50 per month. Contacted them and we are at $39 after taxes moving forward. Annual savings of $132   So with three phone calls, we put $1,380 back in our pocket for 2016.    So i say all that to say this, if you haven't reviewed your bills lately, it is worth your time. Providers seem pretty desperate to keep customers. Don't fall a victim to auto drafts and "paperless" invoices which end up in the junk mail folder of you email. You might be pissing away enough cash to add a new 1911 to the safe in 2016.....
