  1. Mine was sent in early last year(or was it the previous year?) for a replacement trigger, before the recall was announced. My gunsmith received a message that the gun would not be returned because of other problems. We had a very hard time getting a reply to calls and emails in over a month. The shop put up quite a fuss with them. I was there and listening in on the conversation...it was quite antagonistic on both sides. Finally we were told a pistol would be shipped, just didn't know exactly when. We did get a replacement pistol, one of the first to be taken care of it seems. The pistol arrived about a month later, no paper work at all. Just the box addressed to me. Another phone call, and a CS person said since the process had taken so long, and there were no PT111s available, nor due in for 3-6 months, they were sending me a PT24-7 instead. It's a long story, and a process that covered about 8 weeks and a lot of loud and sometimes nasty calls to Taurus. I was spending a lot of hours on the TaurusArmed.net forum then and lots of complaints about the times to get a replacement. Some only like my wait, others were saying 6 months plus. I have a PT 145 and another PT24/7 OSS model that I decided not to return, as I'd darn near break the trigger trying to replicate the "unsafe situation" to make them fire. As with the Sig pistols, I'm not in the habit of dropping my guns on concrete from 6 feet, so I didn't send them back. From what I saw back then, there were a lot of people who didn't. So if you like your 111, and are having no problems with it...maybe just keep it since you have mags and a slide for it. If you really want a G2 111, they can be bought usually right at 200 from PSA. Like you, I had extra mags for the 111, and wasn't happy that they(Taurus) had a replacement that didn't use existing mags; I actually bought a PT111 on GB. Yes, there were people selling them even after the recall became widely known It was the most inaccurate Taurus I've ever owned. My brother-n-law just laughed at me. He hates Taurus. This particular one was a shining example of the things sometimes said about the Taurus line. That was not the norm for Taurus pistols I've owned. Granted they aren't the Caddy of pistols, but not the Yugo either. lol I do own one of the "so ugly it's pretty" pimp guns from Taurus. A gloss black, with Gold controls and trigger, 1911 in 38 Super. I just had to have it! lol
  2. Watch every online seller, sign up for all their emails. Sometimes see it cheap. I know how you feel. I have 2 44spl guns and aTaurus(don't laugh at me) Tracker in 44 mag that I'd intended to use for the 44 spl loads. I think in total I might have 300 rounds that I've bought and squirreled away. And you may find that the 44mag rounds are cheaper. Maybe not all the time, but sometimes.
  3. Yes, it turned out beautifully. I'm very envious. I saw a full DW Pistol Pack with all 5 barrels and cleaning accessories several years ago at a gun show. Why I didn't buy it...I really don't know. Guess I wasn't thinking too well that day. It was 900 for the full package.
  4. How sad. Another icon lost. But there are quite a few still around, the problem I've had with mine is the availability of functional mags. Mine work well with original factory mags, but have problems with some of the after market producers. Specifically, those Argentine production a few years back. I won't say they are all bad, I haven't tried any in a while. So I guess it's time to buy a few more while I can.
  5. I agree. I went bonkers wanting a PPQ45 when I heard of it. I did get one, and was somewhat let down. The fine handling characteristics I love so much in the 9mm version elude me in the 45. For me anyway, the recoil is a bit uncomfortable and awkward. Seems that with the bore axis so high in the 45, it is harder for me to adjust to. As you say, a fine handgun. just not quite a perfect fit for me.
  6. SWEET! Looks very good with those grips. Almost makes me wish I had mine back. Almost.
  7. Love those Smiths! I have a few myself, maybe not that pretty. lol
  8. I thought this yesterday but didn't post it. From what I know of you...Lazy fat ass is not applicable to you. Perhaps like me, you are weight challenged, but lazy...nope.
  9. True. But I've found some of these guys to go beyond their stated jobs. From what I've been told, they are not to get people in and out of cars, assist with chairs and the like, nor generally do anything but take your keys. One of my docs told me this. How true, I don't know. I've had some of them get the wheel chair out as I opened the hatch, and have it ready and waiting before I got out. Some have assisted my wife, and my mother, getting in and out, as well as holding arms while they walked. Then get them back in when we left, and would fold and stow the chair for me. Granted, not all do these things, but those who do for me will at least get my meager tip.
  10. I'd agree on some of the first R1s, and even some current models. But the scuttlebutt rumors(for what they are worth) talks of poor QC on them and the new R9(?).
  11. Sadly, never owned a CZ rifle. But from listening to a couple of rifle guys I know; they are really good right out of the box. And I do mean 2...brother-in-law and my ole buddy the Rabbi, Bill Bernstien. I would like to have the 452(?), the 762x39 model though. I passed one by some years ago and have always regretted it. I went back the next morning, but it was gone.
  12. Lord knows I'm not a raving fanboy for Kimber. But I'd have to go with it over the Remington, even if the price was equal.
  13. I have always thought of getting the 22 Kadet kit for my 75. But just haven't pulled the trigger on one. (Sorry for the obvious pun.)
  14. I thought/think that way at times. So I leave nothing in the car that's valuable or informative. Valet gets car key only. I carry a sling bag now, Thanks Santa, and have registration and papers from the glove box packed in one envelope so I can take it out when I need to. I've done that for years and years. But when my wife had her first knee surgery, I had to change my thinking. I'd just roll up to the door and get her out, then park it myself. Then recently she had Achilles Tendon surgery. And with a couple other issues of mine, I'll take the weather into account when I have to park somewhere. Us old farts have to be careful as we're getting more and more feeble by the day. And more susceptible to cold winds and rains causing problems
  15. Good choice! I have a couple of 75s, and Steelharp and I have gone round and round on a pretty sweet 75B over the years. They are a bit heavier than most of us are used to, but awesome shooters. I predict you'll like it a lot...and probably will buy more. It's like Glocks, you can't own only one!
  16. You've earned that privilege, brother. No one would think otherwise. Even before you told of the trucking incident.
  17. That was my long time reason. When the weather is good, I'll park and walk. I desperately need the exercise. Gotta lose some weight before the knee surgery.
  18. OK. it seems I'm cheap. Really didn't start using the service until some health issues that came up last fall. I might have to rethink my amount.
  19. LOL This gets my vote.
  20. I started a thread on valet tipping just now. I'm curious to see how others do. For me, it depends on the location as whether I'll use the valet service. Downtown areas like Centennial where traffic is crazy, or when raining, or I can't or just don't want to walk, I'll do it. Skyline Medical, where most of my visits are, that's where I have to debate with myself on it. Rarely find a parking space within 100 yards of the entrance. And since the facility sits on the hill, it can get really windy up there. So cold or rainy days I'll use the service. When I've been restricted in movement, or sick and afraid of the weather for a long walk, I'll use them. If it's a nice sunny day...this old butt is walking and saving a couple bucks for ammo. Again, JMO.
  21. Just a general thought here' I'm pretty much in line with on that amount. Unless it's something really special, 1000 is my upper limit. I'm not saying I've never exceeded that, as I have a time or two. Last was a Springfield TRP...1400. I was just really paranoid to shoot it and scratch it. I kept thinking how much I'd spent on it when 500-600 had been my extreme limit for years. I sweated over it so much I finally sold it and got my cost back. JMO
  22. I've been talking with bersaguy about the amount to tip the valet people at places like hospitals and doctors offices. I usually give 2-3 dollars for parking and returning my car, unless it's really bad weather and he or she has a long walk to get in an uncovered area. Then I'll give 5+ depending on the valet's attitude. Is this in line with what you guys do? Please chime in on this. We both would like to hear your thoughts.
  23. Ask some others here, but as I said, 2-3 is what I normally give them. So does my wife.
  24. Looks pretty good, I must admit. Like you, I wasn't to fond of the different colors until I got my PPQ in Black/Titanium...it's awesome. That led to an FDE Canik TP9, and now an FDE Smith M2 5" 9mm. Colors can be addictive.
  25. We must have been around the same time then. I did shoot 50 rounds 7/10/15 yards at my course. I did ok, got a 96. Jerked on shot off the torso, and in reloading, I left/lost a round in my pocket. Found it afterwards. And of course got penalized for it. And yes that sounds strange. I only had 2 mags, so I was told to dump extra rounds in my pocket and load between rounds of shooting.
