  1. Wifey gave me money for a new scope/optic for my rifle. Then all the hoopla started and I bought a bunch of hicaps for my pistols and rifles. She's a keeper!
  2. I think a lot of us here know about Larry Correia; but if you don't, please look him up. Very good writer and his blogs are great to read as well. I could say many things, but it's easier to just check him out. I don't think you'll think it a wasted time.
  3. This is my personal opinion. Doesn't mean it's right for all. But having owned a PPS40, then a PPS9, I vote for the Shield 9. It just suits me better. I was on a waiting list for one for about 2 months and got one. Still carry the PPS9 as I haven't fully run enough rounds thru the Shield to be a permanent cc. Also have had a Kahr 9, a PF-9, and a Nano. For me, the Shield is #1, the Nano is dead last.
  4. It is ridicilous isn't it. Saw a used one offered on Armslist the other day for 900. I like guns, and I will buy what I want within reason, but these guys that are gouging are slimeballs. I've had a gunshow dealer offer 600 for mine because he could get 800 for it. I told him to shove his offer.

    DING! DING! DING!
  6. Thanks, Raoul. You said things very well for all of us. Merry Christmas to all.
  7. Quite by accident, I acquired a second G19. I intend to keep it. Call it what you will, greed, spare parts, good for 2-gun carry. I like it. And the extra mags with it don't hurt at all. Kinda wish I had a second on some other stuff these days as well.
  8. Your loss, as such, is definitely my gain here. I appreciate you going in the other direction, David. I've had the opportunity to hold the XD-S, but haven't fired one. But I did get a comment from a friend on one. Like me, he's a little older and altough a fan of 45 and 1911 guns, Bill's commentary suggested the little pocket rocket was a bit harsh for him, and just really didn't suit him. Just different strokes as they say. I do have some experience with smaller 45s, among them the Smith micro pistols, a Springer, and a Colt New Agent in 45. While I like the small cannons, my personal preferences run to the 9mm for carry. Again, just different tastes. But thanks for passing on it. After a few range sessions, I'll post more commentary on the Shield 9.
  9. Looks really sweet.
  10. Well, I think he was there and got a few rice burns.
  11. Well, after asking what you bought lately, I decided to call Nashville Armory about the waiting list for the Shield. Miss Morgan picked up and I told her why I was calling. She said wait a minute, she would try to find out for me. And all done very plesantly I might add, because I could hear the mob in the background. After a few minutes wait, Andrew informed me I was next in line. I thanked him and said that was great. Figured I would see one in early Janusary. That was on Wednesday. On Thursday night, Andrew calls and says I have a Shield waiting for me. Joy!! Joy!! Since I really didn't feel that good; suffering with a sinusitis bout. I asked if I could pick it up Friday. Sure, he says. So Friday afternoon I'm standing in the same mob again that I heard over the phone, waiting patiently to get to a csa. It did take a while, probably 45 minutes. but I passed the time listening to the guys explain gun stuff to what appeared to be many first time buyers. One gentleman wanted to trade in his PM9 on something "bigger." Didn't get all the details because about that time I got picked out of the throng. My apologies to the young man, I'm sure I'm messing up on his name. I think it was something like Kanan? Keirnan? Anyway he goes and get the Shield 9 and I look it over. I'm completely satisfied with it. Say I have but one question...how much is it now? I'm sure it's gone up since their opening. No he says. Same price as then. Whatt?? Couldn't believe it. Not taking advantage of a hard to get item? No premium for it? And get this. Actually had a couple of mags for it. Amazing. I've been watching sites looking for mags. Just 'cause I hate only having 1 or 2 for something. Nobody has any of them. Trying not to be greedy, I only took one off the wall. Left some for the next lucky guy. Besides 3 should be enough for me. Surely. One in the pistol and 2 backups for a small cc 9. I can live with that till mags are more readily available. Anyway, fill out the form, call in, and wait for about 20 minutes for confirmation. Luckily, the good people in the check room still like me, so I walked out very happy. Very Happy. Shield 9 with 2 mags, one extra mag, tax and tic...533. Best price I'd found on the auction sites started there, plus shipping. So yes, I'm very satisfied with the experience there. My thanks to Andrew and all the staff I've met. Will heartily recommend The Nashville Armory to anyone. On...and the little Shield, no didn't fire it then. Way too big a crowd to wait. I'll get around to it after the holidays. No, I'm not crazy, I've shot one before and totally in love with it. After a few hundred rounds to get settled in, it will, I think, become my primary carry. Even looks like it will replace my PPS9. Not really any size difference in them to speak of. In fact the Shield is a hair bigger. But it fits me better, feels better, and the recoil impulse is much more comfortable than shooting the PPS. Oh, there was one downside. My wife didn't think it was very "attractive." Go figure that one. Yeah, I know...no pics, so it didn't really happen. But no gear to post with. Don't own a smart phone. Just an old dinosaur using an old flip style.
  12. Yep. Sure does. I'd bet those high capacity quivers will be on the Fienstien list as well.
  13. "Magazines are a great place to store ammo." Wish I'd said that.
  14. Brian, I don't think that graycrait is doubting your word or your sincerity, rather that he is cautioning us that there are many levels of journalistic intent and integrity working on this current theme. And eacha nd every one may not share your enthusiasm for truth and fact. And it's not that I don't believe you, for I certainly don't know you. But I notice from your profile you are 35. Perhaps when you have reached the ages of graycrait and myself, or done the thins and had the experiences of graycrait; you'll understand the skeptical nature of most of us here. Truth can have many angles. The media as a whole doesn't have the best track record for presenting the best angle, usually just the one best for sensationalism and circulation.
  15. Ok, so far, pretty much the responses I expected. Seems that most of us oldtimers; that is in age and time with firearms, are pretty much getting planned items and restocking parts and ammo for their previously owned guns. I see a few making stated early purchases and what-not. Some giving consideration to that wished-for item that didn't quite fit the current budget. And addditional parts and supplies for reloading. Seems like the relative newcomers, and those who poo-poo the idea of owning a gun initally are coming around as well. Sure sould like to see the current stats on first-time buyers right now. From what I see and hear, December sales will break all previous records in the industry. Not really surprising since I think we were on track to do that already, but this will really be big. Seems like but for the timing, not really a surprise for most of us that such an all out frenzy should occur. I don't think my previous purchases look quite so ridicilous now. Not mentioning how much or what I got, but I feel that I've done the right things so far. Just maybe not carried it far enough though. Can't see myself paying some of the prices being asked today for much of anything. Sure I'd like a couple of Surefire supercap mags, but I balked at the normal pricing on them. I don't even wanna look at them today. And would like to have had a few more cases of pistol caliber ammo for my handguns; even a couple more 7.62x39 and 5.56. But when and if it all settles down, I'll just go on buying as I see a need for it. At least I hope to.
  16. Gee Mike, I'd buy that but I just got 10 for 144. Maybe we could offer mine too?
  17. Great. Almost choked when I read this.
  18. Yeah, Mike, seems like the AR syndrome is as bad as 1911itis and Glockishness. Lord help me, I have all three. But the Glock virus seem the worst to me. Caught myself looking at a Gen4 G19 this afternoon. It just jumped up and bit me in the buttoocks while I was fondling a Smith Model 10. And Mav, you just reminded me about wanting some more CCI as well. And another mag for the PMR30. There's always something else isn't there?
  19. Part of your prediction has come to pass. Big news about a new hairstyle for one of Kardashian girls on my homepage. Man, that's something I really couldn't live without knowing about.
  20. Yes, reasonable awnsers to all posts. And for those farsighted enough, justafiably true. It's just that so much of what I hear and read, admittedly biased on both sides, tends to give one pause, and even worry more for the future of our freedoms.
  21. Good thoughts and I second the notion. But would suggest maybe looking into Gun Owners of America as well. But would add that preperation for the bad does not mean prepping for defeat.
  22. Just wondered. How have you reacted to all the inuendo and possible threats on bans of AR rifles and hicap mags? I've visited several lgs I frequent, talked and listened to friends and buyers while there. Watched here and on a few other venues and been wondering. Aside from talking and postulating what might be, what have you done to feel less personally threatened by fears of bans and shortages? Have you indulged in panic buying? It seems that quite a few have. Have you done a new inventory of mags and ammo? Are you satisfied with your current collection, or do you find yourself wondering which handgun or rifle to buy another of? I'll start. I may have over-reacted, but I don't think so. I placed an order for additional AR, AK, and hicap mags for the core of my collection. May not be as much as some would say is necessary, or maybe more than enough to others. I know when the 2 boxes arrived today, my wife did raise an eyebrow, but accepted my ratioale for the purchases. Except for some extra Tangodown mags and Bulgarian AK mags, all was within what I'd planned on doing in the next six months or so. So I just sped up the timetable a bit. I think it all falls within what I consider an acceptable level of mags and ammo for each weapon and caliber. Maybe a little short in a couple calibers, but hopefully not distressingly so. One friend did question whether I was worried that I'd be out a large amount in the hicap mags if they were banned and required to be turned in. One, I told him that if it came down to individuals being stripped of mags and ammo, we were all pretty well screwed anyway. And two, that the old addage applied here. "Better to have and not need than to need and not have." So what did you do? I suppose many have done as I since the levels of availability seem to have really dried up by Monday/Tuesday. But I feel better prepared for whatever may come than the multitudes of guys I've seen tring to buy an AK, AR, or any semi-auto handgun over the last few days. Perhaps it will all just drift away like dust in the wind before long, but I don't really know. Only Our Lord Above knows tha awnser to that; and if I remember correctly, one of his admonitions was to be prepared. Well...and while I'm not completely there in the physical and spiritual sense, I am trying. Wonder if I can find a couple more cases of ammo reasonable? Please excuse the run-together form; for some reason, my paragraph structure disappeared when I posted. Edit to edit: wierd, now it's back.
  23. Ditto. Noticable lag tonite.
  24. Man, thanks for posting this. I'd all but forgotten these guys. Brings back a lot of memories of sittin' in the PE classes with the student teachers listening to them. Yeah for you younger guys, these guys were considered pretty risque and dirty in those days. Really tame now. But still fun to listen to.
