  1. I have a Tactical Industries one too. Bonus is that they're a Tennessee company. It works great for my purposes (practicing for 3 Gun)
  2. WOW.   My wife was trying to check out the Exchange plan prices (of course the website didn't work) and I jokingly told her she should check to see if she could get her free Obamaphone with her Obamacare.  It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.
  3. got an email blast from AIM Surplus advertising a complete Spike's Tactical midlength for $800 with free shipping.  Like Oh Shoot was saying, you can also put together a quality Palmetto State Armory rifle for under a grand too.     I also like the idea of an SBR'd 9mm AR.  I've been looking for a Colt 6951 for awhile and cannot find one, though.
  4. A Python for under a grand.
  5. Here's an unreported case I found:   http://www.tba.org/tba_files/TCCA/2005/ewerlingwillo.pdf   Defendant was sitting in his van in a parking lot at Percy Priest Dam at odd hours.  He had a .45 and admitted to having "some beer" the evening before.  He was convicted of possessing a weapon in a park, possessing a handgun while under the influence of alcohol, and trespassing.   He apparently was not charged with DUI or public intoxication, and it does not appear that a field sobriety test or breathalyzer was used.  The only evidence that he was under the influence was (1) his admission to having "some beer," and (2) the officer's testimony that he smelled alcohol on the guy's breath and that the guy was under the influence.  The Court of Appeals said that was enough, Supreme Court denied the defendant's application for permission to appeal.   So yeah, don't assume that because you're (legally) OK to drive that you're also OK to carry.
  6.   me too.  I was told to aim somewhere else.

    To go brand!

Primary Arms is having a crazy sale on Daniel Defense rifles.  $400 off.   You can get a DDM4v7 (modular tube rail version) for $1109 right now.   If I were looking for an AR, I'd jump in it (to paraphrase the DirecTV Russian guy)
  8. I just had to bump this thread to say that I can't believe I didn't buy one of the these conversions sooner.  I picked up one the Tactical Industries Target Master conversions on sale for $145.  I ran about 250 rounds of M-22 through it today without a single hiccup.  I can finally practice for 3 gun!   Oh, an added bonus is that Tactical Industries is a Tennessee company.  I didn't even realize that until after I ordered.

    flip up sights

mbus is good enough for me, too.   http://kitup.military.com/2012/07/back-up-iron-sight-drop-test.html
  10. I really dig my gray Fury Carry Solutions gear.
  11.   The common areas are amazing.  It has one of the best fitness centers I've seen in a hotel.  Staff always eager to help.  The room I was in was very clean but nothing to write home about.     I forgot to tell you what to do with Priceline, because you'll have to bid.  Narrow your bidding to Four Star hotels in the Opryland area.  Since the Opryland Hotel is only four star in the area, you know exactly what you're bidding on.
  12. FYI, if you'd like to stay at the Opryland Hotel, it can be done for much cheaper.  In June, I used Priceline to score a room for $85.  They still hit you with the BS resort fee and parking, but at least this hotel is an actual RESORT, unlike most of the places that charge that fee.  I scored major points with the wife on that one.
  13.   and about a month and a half ago it was $14 and change.
  14.   Maggiano's on West End Ave. is INCREDIBLE.  Like Garufa, I'm an Altruda's fan, but Maggiano's is better.   J. Alexander's on West End is my other go-to spot when I visit Nashville.       +1 on that.  I believe there is one in Chattanooga, too (or maybe there's going to be one there).     Despite the quirks that some people find annoying (tiny paper plates, flimsy plastic forks, shady bathrooms, spotty service, cash or check only), I'm a huge Big Ed's fan for pizza.  Their salty cheese is like crack.         Knoxville has a bunch of very good Thai places; my favorite probably being Taste of Thai.  Surin of Thailand, Lemongrass, and Little Bangkok are also very good (probably in that order).  When my parents visit, they always demand a trip to Taste of Thai.
  15. Here's a few that come to mind.   In Terminator 2, all 9mm's (like the T1000's Beretta) make a weak "pew-pew" sound.     In I Am Legend, emptying an M-4 is followed by full-auto clicking.     In Lethal Weapon, Riggs takes a shotgun blast to the chest that sends him flying through a plate glass window.  He's wearing kevlar, so naturally he just walks it off.  In Lethal Weapon 3, while showing off old war wounds, he shows that his whole shoulder has been pock marked by a "whole family of .44's."  Luckily, the blasting of his shoulder hasn't affected his karate skills in any way.
  16. Got my shipping notice. I ordered twice (I was afraid the first didn't go through), and they are sending both. So I now have 2500 rounds of .22 enroute from Big C. :)
  17. I have three Fury holsters and a variety of mag pouches.  It is all excellent stuff.  Coal Creek Armory and Bill's Outpost both carry their gear if you want to check it out.
  18. I got a shipping notice for the Thunderbolts today.  Still no joy on the M-22's.
  19. This has pretty much put the kabosh on me being able to stop in on the way to work. Grrr...
  20. There are articles on the new law in a couple bar publications this month:   Tennessee Bar Journal: http://www.tba.org/journal/guns-in-trunks   Dicta (Knoxville Bar Assoc.): http://www.knoxbar.org/images/DICTA.June2013.pdf
  21. Well, Ramsey does have a point about the AG not addressing the public policy exception to the employment at will doctrine.    Here are the elements of a retaliatory discharge claim in Tennessee:   (1) that an employment-at-will relationship existed; (2) that the employee was discharged, (3) that the reason for the discharge was that the employee attempted to exercise a statutory or constitutional right, or for any other reason which violates a clear public policy evidenced by an unambiguous constitutional, statutory, or regulatory provision; and (4) that a substantial factor in the employer's decision to discharge the employee was the employee's exercise of protected rights or compliance with clear public policy.   I'm sure this will all be litigated at some point.  The question is: are you willing to be a test case?
  22. It's kind of irritating that they're continuing to sell 525 rd boxes of Golden Bullet for $23.99 while the 500 rd box I bought 2 weeks ago for the same price is still backordered to June 30.  You think they might consider offering a substitution.
  23. that's the standard that has been used, even by the US Supreme Court, for a long time.  It places the burden on the citizen to prove that the law is unconstitutional.     The presumption of constitutionality has its critics, but that's just the way it is.
