I've got a good friend... he's kinda tall and skinny with a beautiful deep red glow. He's a lot older than I am but is still in fine shape. He's really fun to hang out with and the best part is when he shoots off at the mouth.

I vacuum seal lots of smoked meat and freeze it. It's been fine after about 2 years. We recently got a dehydrator but have only done fruit. I love jerky and would like to try jerky but haven't had an entire day to try it yet. We also recently got a pressure canner but again have only done veggies, pickles, relish, etc. As with @prag, meat is awfully expensive to experiment with and screw it up. I'd really like to try venison but that would require hunting, which I haven't been able to manage either... maybe this fall.

I think my food saver is similar to what @JAB found. Mine is a 550, which appears to go for about $30 on eBay. It still works fine.

We've used Food Saver and ziplock brand with no problems.

My condolences on the loss of your Dad. It's good to have some things to bring back pleasant memories.

Reading up on SCTP (which sounds like a great program), I get the impression that while all the kids on one team may all go to the same school and wear school colors, thats not a requirement to form a team. Therefore I'd argue that it's not a "school event". But that's worth exactly what you paid for it.
-
That's was part of my point... Are the teams directly school sponsored, wearing school colors, etc., or just youth club teams that happen to be comprised of students, who may or may not all happen to attend the same school? To me, there's a distinct difference. Regardless, the law (as usual) is way too vague and needs either rewritten or some case law to clarify the specifics.

Thanks. So yes, based on the verbiage in the statute, it sounds like anyone not on a school team in possession of a gun anywhere on the property is eligible to be charged with a felony. Which is pretty stupid, but then this is TN law we're talking about so... I'd say this is a good opportunity for an AG opinion to provide some clarification. If I was in management of the club, that's just what I'd do.

I don't think you answered my question... Was this a school only tournament on private property? Or was it a public shooting event in which school teams were competing?

Fingerprinting/photos in Knoxville

UPS stores do it, I think. And it should be all electronic now. No ink or cards to deal with. -
Was it limited to schools only, or were school teams competing in an event open to non-school groups?

How do you know when it's overscoped?
peejman replied to Sam1's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Over-scoped? You mean when you can't tell which quadrant of the bull the reticle is on? -
A bunch of guys I work with use the 200 lumen version of those and they're not nice to them either. They've held up almost as well as the $120 Streamlights.

Which illustrates that all sorts of things can be vacuum sealed. Handy for keeping thing clean in dirty environments ( bearings, o-rings, gaskets, ...) or storing things that may deteriorate over time.

Trader's / Seller' remorse . . . . is it real?
peejman replied to ZoidMeister's topic in General Chat
I know this is about guns, but the only remorse I have involves a truck. Dad had a white '72 C-10, stepside, 3 on the tree when I was a kid. It wasn't especially pretty, but we hauled untold amounts of firewood in it. We went to the golf course all the time in it. Every winter we'd all pile in the cab and go dig up a Christmas tree from a farm out in the boonies. He sold it when I was still too young to drive. Whenever I see a C-10 now I'm reminded of that truck. I'd love to find that old truck and fix it up. -
We've had a Food Saver brand vacuum sealer for years. Coming up on 16 years as I think it was a wedding gift. It's been great. Best way to preserve stuff in the freezer. I have learned to double seal both ends of the bags. Sometimes bags don't seal completely and will leak back up a bit. Just use that stuff first. I've also learned to put a napkin or paper towel in with anything juicy. Yes, every bag will get at least an inch shorter every time you use it. I've never found that to be an issue. I've used both Food Saver brand bags and Ziplock brand with success.

Trader's / Seller' remorse . . . . is it real?

I've only sold 1 gun (an AR to a friend) and I don't regret it. He got a nice rifle that he still has and enjoys, I was able to get one I liked better. -
Here's an episode of River Monsters filmed in the cooling pond and river adjacent to Chernobyl. You can see all the horrific monsters he found there...

I assume you mean favorite to shoot. In that case, Nope. My wife's S&W 6904 is my favorite shooter but I most often carry my least favorite P3AT, just because it's so easy.

I also use SmugMug. In addition to relatively easy access, It's a great way to back-up all your photos and videos in the event your computer dies. Its fairly inexpensive, and here's a discount code that'll save both of us a few bucks. https://secure.smugmug.com/signup?Coupon=VlcPcQWTe7dG6

I doubt you need to pay cash to buy or rent. I'd presume you'd set up a local bank account where you end up and can pay for stuff just like anyone else. Having a hunting license has nothing to do with buying firearms. A friend of mine is from England. We call him "the angry Englishman" He's got a resident alien card and has quite the firearm collection. His purchases typically take a couple days to go through, but otherwise no issues.

I'll freely defer to those who do this sort of thing for a living... generally I'd say most of what you hear is fear mongering from the uninformed or those with an opposing agenda. People fear things they don't understand, few people outside of the industry understand radiation. I know enough to be dangerous. We serviced engines from aircraft that overflew Fukushima immediately after the incident. LOTS of hype was made about handling of the potentially radioactive engines. As is alluded to in the Popular Mechanics article, the radiation experts we worked with from Oak Ridge could confirm that's where these engines picked up radiation, but the level was very low. "Below background" was their description. They actually put the engines in their containers up against the outside wall of their office as added shielding from all the other stuff they had that really was hot. Their comment was "they're actually gaining radiation as they sit here, because the other stuff back there is way hotter."
