  1. Welcome!
  2. Any sort of DC motor will work this way, not just a drill.   That said, it'd be pretty darn tedious to spin that thing for an hour or more to charge a phone.
  3. You tend to get a lot less on you using a squatter.  That's one reason why you find them in such places.

    AR-7.62 39

Early ones didn't feed worth a crap, but the parts makers seem to have that fixed now.  Personally, I'd go 7.62x39 because the ammo is cheaper and not everyone has one.
  5.     I'd bet GM had practically nothing to do with it.  All they did was have the car(s) delivered to the conversion shop.  The conversion shop wired in the strobe kit, installed the roll cage, and the fire suppression system.
  6. Any sort of point-&-shoot camera with a macro mode will take pretty darn good pics.  Even most smart phones will take good pics these days.  It just takes lots of light and a little set-up work.  Heck, I'd like take the pics just to be able to fondle the toys.
  7. Who's ready for spring?
  8. Glad it was ok. I had an old Pontiac with the 3.8. The oil pan gasket blew out, leaked out all the oil while I was driving, and shortly thereafter spun a rod bearing and trashed the crank. I saw it when they pulled it apart and the other 5 cylinders looked new. The cross hatching was still clearly visible.
  9. Yes, a strong hot alkaline cleaner is what I had in mind, but that'll kill aluminum in short order. I'd try soaking it in boiling hot water for a few minutes prior to blasting it. Walnut shells or plastic media should work but as with any blasting, be mindful of your pressure, standoff, and dwell.
  10. What they said. It's a very small town, generally a quiet rural place. Madisonville and then Maryville are the places you'd go to get stuff. Beautiful area with lots off hills and lake front.
  11. Is the build-up on the baffles just the usual powder residue with a bit of lead fouling?   What is the can made of?  Is it machined from one piece or is it an assembly.  If it's an assembly, are the pieces welded or brazed together?   I'm thinking of a chemical way to remove the deposits or at least soften/loosen them so they'll come off easily, without damaging the can itself.
  12.     I've put a bunch of corner shelves in the house, they are indeed really handy.  A great way to keep the wife's nick-knacks from cluttering up every other available horizontal surface ....  :ugh:   I used a sheet of MDF board, and cut anywhere from 12" - 18" radius pie pieces out and routed the exposed edge.  I nailed 1/4 round trim to the wall and sat the shelf on it.  Works great... except when the corners in your house aren't 90 deg...
  13. Yep, after the last session with my Mosin and Mauser, I got a recoil pad. I love shooting them, but they'll bite if you're not careful.
  14. Got a little a snow overnight, but the thermometer is quick climbing toward 50 deg. Bring on the warm!!
  15. What they said.... Kroil, WD-40, PB Blaster, etc. are for cleaning and loosening stuck things. I use 3-in-1 oil for lubricating or protecting and I use silicone grease on things that slide. The only "all in one" thing I use is CLP, and that's mostly for trigger assemblies that I don't want to take apart.
  16. A little while ago I learned that the stove makes a pretty good unintentional beard trimmer. I had a quick kid toy repair to do in the garage. It was a little chilly and my stove was sitting there so I thought I'd fire it up. Apparently I got a little too close to the flame. The damage was minor but if you think burned hair smells bad from a distance, it's worse when it's right under your nose.
  17. You won't have any trouble selling it, if that's what you decide to do. Carbines typically go pretty fast.
  18. Speed week already started and ended for me.... The Rolex 24 was 2 weeks ago.
  19. As Garufa said, kroil or other penetrating oil. If that doesn't work, heat.
  20. Cool. Wish I had friends giving away mosins.
  21. I'll reverse part of my statement above... I would shoot my .380 at 50 yds on a range. I'm not sure if I could hit the broad sign of a barn at that range, but it would be fun to find out. But shoot at a person defensively? Only if I didn't have any choice. I have shot my full size 9mm off hand at 200 yds. It took about 10 rds and a spotter to dial in in the Kentucky windage, but it was surprisingly accurate.... roughly 24" group which I thought wasn't bad.
  22. I'd be happy to meet and chat with folks about various things. Anytime I've been to a shoot, we do as much shooting the breeze as shooting at targets.
  23. I guess I miss the point. Of course a bigger gun is better. A rifle is better yet. Artillery is yet another step, though it's kinda heavy to carry around all day. I wouldn't dream of shooting my .380 at 50 yds, that's not what it's for.
  24. Not bad for such a small pistol that's not real easy to shoot well. Good for her!
  25.     A fool and his money are soon parted...
