Does anyone here watch the Military Channel here?
peejman replied to bersaguy's topic in General Chat
I watch it some. I'll echo the sometimes cheesy comment on some of their shows. Seems like they dumb down their explanations of some technology too much. They also tend to rerun stuff a lot. I've been DVR'ing the "Air Aces" episodes and found them quite interesting. I find it amusing that my 6 yr old knows who Gabby Gabreski is. :) -
I've had pretty good luck with Autozone batteries. As to whether there's any real difference between a regular one and a "professional" one... I doubt it. You're likely just paying more for the better warranty.

I've read a few books about WWII and noticed an interesting theme.... A large percentage of German soldiers considered the Allies "the opponent" while the Gestapo/SS were considered "the enemy".

That's my whole motivation. My wife took the NRA's Women on Target class a few years ago and really liked it. We've talked about it and we both need more training/practice. She was interested in taking a class of some sort. TA is nearby, inexpensive, and I've seen good reviews. We have an agreement that we both close the lid.

What they said. If she's content, leave it be. Personally, I don't like the small revolvers. For me, it's muzzle/cylinder blast more than it is recoil. I find the muzzle blast on any snubby objectionable. I don't much care for a 4" .357 either (the *BOOM* is fun, but it gets old fast), but my 4" .45 doesn't bother me. I think my P3AT has significant recoil and its so small that it's hard to hang onto. It's ok for me, but my wife hates it. That said, I got her a 9mm Shield for Christmas and she likes it. While she does both well enough that I'm comfortable with her carrying it, she needs more practice shooting and operating it. I've been pondering sending her to one of the women's classes at Tactical Advantage, perhaps as a VD gift. http://www.tacticaladvantagecorp.com/training/

You're not missing a rifle, you're missing LOTS of rifles.... :) That said... M1A, Garand, FN FAL, 1903, K98, AR10, ... As for your pic... Right click on the picture and hit "copy image location". Then hit the insert pic button in the editor here and paste into the field. Viola.

I've heard of using a kerosene soaked tp roll for a cool flaming halloween pumpkin. No reason that wouldn't work as a stove. I checked and the alcohol I used is 99% pure isopropyl. So I guess that's means it's 198 proof. :)

TN State GOP leaders reluctant to reopen gun debate
peejman replied to runco's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ding! Election year. Don't expect anything controversial to pass or even be introduced. -
My thermometer said 10 deg, but there's very little wind which makes all the difference in the world.

I made one like the video over Christmas, but I didn't work very well. I was using 70% rubbing alcohol and while it would burn fine open, it would go out in short order when I put anything on top of it. I finally bothered to get some more pure alcohol (it's at least 90%) and it works like a charm. No change to the stove itself, just better fuel. Though I'd recommend you take the label off the soup can before you sit it on the stove. Particularly if you're doing this on your work bench in the garage. :)

Dad's turned a variety of things from Osage orange. The color fades over time without a hard finish.

Good tip. It'd be better if the dogs didn't get lost in the first place. A friend lives adjacent to a WMA. During bear season he typically ends up with an extra hunting dog or two. The dogs have killed his cats, tried to attack his dog through the chain-link kennel, and generally tear up stuff.

Do some searching on using some cheap pistol (or maybe shotgun) scopes on Mosin's. I recall that being all the rage a while back.

What's your fix for a Mosin trigger?
peejman replied to roverboy's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Good, now you have a goal to work toward. ;) It's a Russian battle rifle not known for it's accuracy with a safety mechanism that lots of people don't even know exists. Most of those who do know, don't use it. Somehow a glassy smooth 2lb trigger seems incongruous to me. The trigger in mine isn't that bad. It's a little heavy, but not objectionable. YMMV. -
Kitchen Sink / Plumbing Question - *Additional Question*
peejman replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Ah, the joys of home ownership. It's the American dream, just keep telling yourself that. :) This man is a genius. And I feel really stupid for not thinking of that. Twice. -
I've seen it plenty of times before and understand that it's supposed to be a farce. I just think it's in poor taste, particularly the picture of the headstone. Kids have access to this place. While they may not understand all the language, the picture is pretty clear. I don't want to have to explain that to my kids.

Gotta love the Taurus hate. My PT145 has been great. It's a good thing S&W and Springfield haven't had any recent handgun recalls, and we all know that a Glock has never broken in recorded history.... Anyway... what do you intend for this gun? Home defense, carry, plinking, ....? All of the above? There's almost too many choices these days. The PT92 is a fine choice. There's probably a couple dozen others that fit the bill as well. As other folks have said, go to a shop and/or a range and try out as many as you can lay hands on. Find what fits your hand, eye, and budget the best.

If that's legit and it's in good shape, yes that's quite a deal -
Or at least until 3/4 of the way through the month when his credit card has had enough abuse. :)
