I spend a few hours a week selling guns at a local shop, and this is something that surprised me. I have no military experience, so when I first started talking guns with folks who identified as military I just kinda figured they knew handguns, etc. I was surprised when some folks who had even seen combat did not know how to drop the slide after locking back on an empty magazine while handling guns in store. I enjoy sharing about guns so I love the opportunity to introduce folks to something new, and I get to learn from them more info about M4s, etc. Of course, there are "gun guys" in service as well, but I was not expecting that folks could go through years of enlistment with little to no handgun training.

Quite a lot of stuff sits in the trunk of my car until wifey isn't home, THEN gets brought in and put away in the man cave. ;-) Sometimes it's better to just avoid the discussion, haha! Last night's purchase: 400 rds CCI Quiet, 200 rds CCI Subsonic, 200 rds Federal champion, all 22.

The big box stores (Academy, Bass Pro, Dick's, et al) are open later... pick you up a piece for dessert on the way home! 'Murica!

My thoughts as well. I'm a peon with no military experience, but I like the 92/M9. I actually just got a brand new M9A1 a couple months ago and love the crap out of the thing. Soft shooter, 100% reliable so far (about 700 rds through it, I'd guess) and a laser beam. I've held lots of 320s but haven't shot one yet. I was never wild about them and this won't change that. I just hope it is a good move, and it serves the troops well.

What bolt 308s are you considering? I have an AR10 and some bolt guns in other caliberz, but no 308 bolt. It's something I'll probably add later in the year and I'm probably leaning Savage model 11 or something similar at this point. What about you?

Lever 357s are so much fun! I have a Marlin and am hoping to get a 44 to join it soon, probably a Henry as well. Best of luck in the search!

Runco, I say make 2017 a banner year... get two! Or ten! :-D Nightrunner, I bought the 5 inch 9mm and I have to say it's great. I already have 5 other M&P pistols and while the 2.0 isn't a complete redesign, it is a marked improvement. My first four shots out of the gun went into the same hole, with the rest of the mag very close or touching. Maybe it's all in my head, but that extended internal frame seems to keep the gun even flatter under recoil than before, and I have a 5" Pro model. The 2.0 shoots better than the Pro, imho. Ooooh. M1A... nice, Obiwan! I'm getting close to the same boat, Sam1. If you go DEagle, please tell me you're going for the gold!

I don't mean your unicorn gun or something unrealistic, but the next actual thing you think you'll get. What are you looking up on Bud's and grabagun every couple days and saving your pennies for? Rifle, handgun, shotgun, whatever. There's lots of fancy new stuff being announced at SHOT show this week as well. Anything in particular you're interested in? I've got to get a 1911. I've been into guns about a decade now and still don't own one. :/ I also don't own anything in .45 and I'm not really wanting to add another caliber right now. I think a 9mm 1911 is kinda useless (don't flame me, bro!) but I already shoot 10mm, so I think that's the direction I'm headed. For some reason I'm really diggin' the Kimber Custom TLE II. I start a new job Monday, so I'm going to hold off on any big purchases for a few weeks/a month until I settle in and see what my income is like. But dangit I just wanna get that pistol! What about you?

I have been laughing for over a minute straight at this sentence! Haha! So perfect! To the OP. My carry gun is my Shield, and it rides in a leather Bianchi model 100. It gets taken out of the holster for the night if the holster has gotten damp with sweat throughout the day. I shoot my carry gun every few weeks and it gets wiped down every time and cleaned as necessary. I don't worry too much the finish of the Shield, though the regular Shield I carred for 3 years before I got this performance center model looked absolutely brand new when I sold it. Dude who bought it didn't believe me when I told him how much use that gun saw.

Just wanted to post an update. I got back home to TN yesterday morning. No hassle at all at either airport. The folks at Southwest are always nice, and this was no different.

I dig the 2.0. My first four shots went into the same hole, with rest darn close as well. Dig the 5", and the thing barely jumps in the hand. While not leaps and bounds better than the first gen, I will say it is definitely refined and improved. Good choice!

I have been using hp38/231 since I started reloading about 9+ years ago and still use it for some things, but not as much as I used to. I've found other powders for mid to top end loads in all handgun calibers, but I LOVE it in my super light plinking 38 and 44 caliber loads. I don't use it in any semi autos any more, though I have in the past. It's pretty much the only powder I use for my target loads with 148gr hbwcs in 38. For new shooters, I have a great load using something like 6 or 7 grains under a 200 gr lead slug in 44 mag. It's such a crazy soft shooter! It really demonstrates how versatile a revolver can be, and it's fun to put 3 of those with 3 max loads of 2400 or 296/h110 in a cylinder and let someone loose!

I've always liked the 290rs. They aren't terrible common, and I've never had the chance to shoot one but have liked the operation of the ones I held. The only thing that has kept me from buying one is the somewhat (for me) odd grip angle and feel. I went Shield and am happy, but the 290 is kinda on the back burner... one of those "if I stumble across a great deal and have all the other stuff I want" types of possible purchases. I don't plan on going to battle, ever. Nor joining the military. A milspec trigger means nothing to me. I am a hobbyist/enthusiast. My only real "duty" tool would be my Shield, I guess. Everything else is just for fun. I like nice, crisp triggers and have them in all my AR variants. This is about like saying all anyone really needs in a handgun is a HiPoint. Sure. It holds bullets and goes boom. Most of us generally opt for more refinement and features, though.

I can't imagine anyone sane would ever want to be in that situation, and I'm sure Mr. 1911 is dealing with all kinds of emotion right now, but I'm glad it went the way it did rather than the alternative. Incredible reaction and focus. I'm amazed at how quickly the assailant went down. Textbook CNS hit, I guess... maybe a couple. As for knucklehead #2, I'd venture to say that pillar to the right saved his life.
