  2. Oh man! Sounds fantastic! 6 or 7 rds? Those 2.5 inchers looks beastly!
  3. Wednesday I'm flying home to Miami for a few days to spend some time with my parents. I normally drive down and back as plane tickets are usually pricey and it's usually me AND wifey going, doubling the cost to fly. This time it's just me as I have time off to burn and she doesn't, and the round trip is $97, all taxes and fees included. (!!!!!!) I haven't flown anywhere in a long time, and this will be my first time flying since I've committed to carry wherever and whenever I can. I have already heard horror stories about firearms being stolen from baggage, and am willing to take that risk by itself. I love my PC Shield, but they're making more every day so no biggie there. Then this nutbag shoots a bunch of folks Friday, right where I'll be Wednesday. I imagine the trauma is still fresh and tensions (and possibly over-sensitive and reactionary security) are still high. I am wondering if it is worth taking my piece with me. Sadly, my folks aren't really into guns. My Dad has a fullsize M&P 40 and I have holsters for it, but I can't conceal that thing on myself, especially in the shorts and tshirt attire I'll have on down there. I'll be down there 6 days. What say you, TGO?

    Savage ARs

Meh. I don't think they'll screw anything up... it's the same milspec stuff that everybody and their momma has been making for decades now, and they are literally adding nothing to the mix. I surely doubt that years of thought have gone into designing this rifle, as Plinkster suggests. Maybe years of negotiating the lowest bidder for supplying the parts for the gun, but slapping 4 off-the-shelf parts on an AR that has remained largely unchanged for 50 years can't take all that long to figure out.
  5. Got the 2.0 in hand tonight. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it is a nicely revised M&P, and the trigger on this example is better. Super clean break probably just over 5 lbs (no pull weight scale, sorry) and a nice "click" reset. Takeup is a little gritty and could use smoothing. For new stuff... it has a loaded chamber indicator which I don't really care about. Press check or nothing, haha! The grip texture is like the 45 shield, but maybe just a SMIDGE less rough. I like it. The mag bodies seem exactly the same as the mags for the regular M&P, but the baseplate it ever so slightly shaped differently, with a little more width. Not as flared as the Vickers baseplates, but along those lines. When you stare at it long enough, you realize that the slide, frame, and palm swell are 3 different shades of FDE. Kind of a bummer, but not a huge deal, imho. All in all, I like it. I look forward to what PC models may be coming down the pipe over the next few years.
  6. Boats are hard to keep upright. Thankfully, my reed for shooting blow-darts floats, so I'm not totally defenseless!

    Savage ARs

I wonder if BLACKHAWK!!!!!!!!!! is also owned by Vista Outdoors, the parent of Savage Arms. It would make sense to co-brand in-house. And I agree... BH is just one step up from the no-name accessories on Amazon, imho. (And yes. I admit I have bought a couple of those no-name things off Amazon. Most weren't worth the cost of their free shipping, but I do love the angled iron sights I got for $21.)
  8. I haven't gotten one yet. :/ I got distracted (M9A1) and am just gunna wait for the inevitable Performance Center version to arrive. The PC Shield 9 is so much more awesome than the already really good Shield. I know I'd just replace the regular one as soon as the PC model arrives. I'm in no hurry for one. Will probably get my first 1911 before I get a 45 Shield... I'm on a streak of steel gun buyin'.
  9. Yea... but those $1k KBs always weirded me out. I know they've "fixed" them... but still. :/
  10. J frame variants hover around $400. I have no reason to believe that a 6 round Colt wouldn't be a $500+ street price offering for the first year or so, then maybe falling a smidge to mid $400s. $300 guns are Taurus territory, and I sure hope Colt isn't trying to go there. As I see more about this gun, I'm disappointed. The J frame has the quality carry revolver market locked down, imho. Kimber tried to break in with the K6, but has anyone actually seen/shot/gotten one? I haven't, and I haven't met anyone who has yet, either. I figured they would be aiming at the Python , Cobra, and Anaconda market, where they could theoretically get over $1k/pop pretty easily, not slugging it out in the competitive concealed carry market. Now before someone starts with the "they have to protect the collector's market for the old guns" nonsense... NO THEY DON'T! When some rich bloke pays $5k to some other rich bloke for his 20 year old pistol, NONE of that goes to Colt. It's ALL secondary market. Prestige doesn't pay the bills until you attach it to a newly produced good sold to the public. Could they POTENTIALLY hurt the value of the old guns by flooding the market with poorly executed remakes? I would say that's a possibility, but not likely. Gibson has made some absolute crap guitars in recent history. That doesn't change the fact that Carter's Vintage Guitars sold the first burst for $625,000 recently. In fact, it may he argued that the perceived lack of quality in some recent Gibsons has ADDED to the value of the older models.

  12. I'm late to the party, my secret santa gift arrived while I was out of town. It was worth the wait! I got a nifty credit card sized multi-tool doohickey, and a Talon grip applique for my Shield carry gun! Super awesome too, because I've been thinking about trying one. They come in either a rubbery option or a skateboard tape kinda thing. My Secret Santa wisely knew I was a delicate pansy and got me the rubbery type! That is perfect, because I don't really like the board tape style. I haven't had a chance to give the gun a good cleaning and apply it yet... maybe next week. Now that I'm back home we have family in for New Year's so no time for playing with the guns right now. Maybe once I get the grip applied I'll snap a pic and see if I can figure photobucket out again... since their last update I seem to have lost all my pitchers and can't figure out their new interface. Probably the maddest I've been at a computer in a few years, lol!
  13. If they are done WELL it will be super cool. I would imagine they will be quite pricey. I am a Smith man as well, but deep down in my heart of hearts, if I had the oodles of cash on hand required to buy them I'd own a whole pile of snakes, too. I just can't sink $3k into ONE handgun right now. I still kick myself for not buying a sweet Detective Special for $375 back in 2005. I had only bought my first gun a few months prior, and I didn't even know what I was passing up. The 2" Smith model 64 I ended up buying was $50 less, so I went with that. I still have it and love it, but I shoulda' bought the Colt!
  14. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/12/28/leaked-new-smith-wesson-mp10-6-5-creedmoor-mp45-shield-ported/ Also, Performance Center 45 Shield inbound, a tarted up Bodyguard 380, and the Performance Center goes long gun. I have held off getting a 45 Shield, figuring the PC model was coming. Good decision, it seems!
  15. https://www.facebook.com/Williamson-County-Ammo-Company-1654431378123224/ 615-310-8582. This dude is always advertising 50rd boxes of HSTs. But you'll have to drive to Spring Hill... an excellent excuse to have some pizza at Nick's Italian Deli. Also, the one time I went to Everything Weapons in Cool Springs, they had lots of 50rd boxes of premium LE ammo... bought some Critical Doody in .40. I don't recall if they had HSTs specifically.
  16. Very cool! I shot over a chronograph for the very first time a few weeks ago as well. I was pleasantly surprised that most loads were right about where they should have been according to my source data. As for 110/296, I've read that it can be a bit erratic at below max charges. I don't have my manuals at work, but for a 125gr 357, isn't max like 21.7 or something close? I wonder if that's part of the reason for the wide spread. I'm curious to find out, because I load a lot of 357 and 44 with 110/296 as well. Keep us updated with your latest finds! :-)
  17. This warms my heart, haha! My EDC is a Performance Center Shield 9. I even enjoy it at the range as well, but the low mag capacity makes it tedious to shoot a lot. Go CZ! What's funny is, I don't even have a real CZ yet, but have a spinoff and have shot so many others' that I really am a fan.
  18. 75. Or SP01. Is this for carry or range fun? Carry... sure, 19. For range fun I am pretty much only buying steel/aluminum frame guns from now on. Plastic fantastic strikers for carry and defense... metal single actions for fun. I have a Tangfolio remake of a CZ75 in 10MM and it's plain awesome, my most recent purchaze is a Beretta M9A1 and it is GREAT! An SP01 is next, I believe.
  19. Yep. ABR and Theocracy are pretty mcuh my favorite bands. My Spotify proves it, lol! Here's one a little different... Neil Zaza is kind of in the vein of Satch/Vai, but less about pyrotechnics and more jazz-rock bazed, imho. He has 2 studio and one live Christmas albums, and they are all just incredibly well done and beautifully orchestrated. This one appeals (imho) to anyone who truly enjoys well played music, of ANY style.
  20. I like my music on the heavier side. This band has a whole album in this style, and I play it year round.
  21. The beginning of this made me instantly think of this great series:
  22. Haha! I just added in my M&P 22 Compact and a brick of ammo in case I get to take the nephews shooting. :-)
