  1. Because that isn't the world we live in anymore. Right or wrong.
  2. Harley is trying to compete using the Street Series. A lot of the dyed in the wool Harley devout are really bent out of shape at the idea of an entry level water cooled bike. The new Street Rod makes comparable power at 750cc to the 1200cc Sporty. I think it is great that Harley is trying something new, but they aren't moving. At the price point they sit at you can go get a Yamaha Bolt or a Sportster, both of which are better looking. Harley realizes that the generation coming up is just not that into baggers and touring. Blacked out stripped down models are more appealing. They just haven't learned how to properly market them and get them moving. They are trying though.
  3. It is the second boys 'word' that he was helping, and not a participant/spectator. That is probably their reasoning.
  4. The Scout is pretty innovative, and if they make the same mods as they did on the Victory Octane, it is pretty powerful. The Dark Horse Chief looks really nice, but again it is a bigger bike than I want. The only thing I don't like about the big Indians is all the work they did covering everything up.
  5. A Miata is a lot more fun, and about the same cost.
  6. I did not enjoy the mid controls. I found that anytime I tried to move the bike on foot, the pegs would bite my shins or Achilles tendon. It was a comfort thing as well. I had old Shadow with mid sets. I never liked them. I don't think I had my Sporty three days before I installed the forwards. I have logged thousands of miles with them. So it is not fair for me to say they are better or worse than the mids. Disclaimer aside. I have enough room to stretch out and still feel like I am in control of the bike. I am not the kind of guy who tucks his knees into the tank. That is uncomfortable for me. The original seat on the bike had me sitting farther forward as well. With the lower seat it also allows me to sit a little farther back. As far as my legs, I am comfortable as can be. I am thinking about putting a set of mini-ape/z-bars on the bike though. I am not entirely keen on where my hands sit while riding. Just something to come up about six inches. I find myself having to lean in a little more than I would like now that my legs stretch out. I think the aesthetics will work well too. I can get some brass colored lines. My goal with it is to stay matte, but add brass and carbon fiber. The pics don't show it well, but the upper forks and a/c lid have been wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl. My own take on steampunk/cyberpunk/rat. It is a work of love that I ride. Believe it or not there is only about $2500 in parts added to the bike. The pipes/tuner/intake and forward controls being the most expensive. The biggest thing is that I do my own work, so that has obviously saved me another $2500 in shop/dealer fees.
  7. If I had wanted a Dyna, I would have wanted a Low Rider S. I don't want a Dyna, but I still kinda want a Low Rider S. I might pick one up farther down the road. I can't lie in saying a took a little inspiration from the headlight fairing on my bike.
  8. The Dyna Low Rider S comes blacked out with nifty gold wheels. That would be my Dyna if I bought one. The Street Bob is what you are looking for. It has the bobbed fender and blacked out mill. The Low Rider and Wide Glide are chrome jobbies. And the Fat Bob, well, that is a style all of it's own.
  9. I grew up on the Dragon. I was raised in Tellico, the other side of the Cherohala Skyway. I have hosted a meet there for nearly 20 years. As for scraping and corrosion, I have learned after decades of turning wrenches, everything needs replaced eventually.
  10. I make the joke often when I am running the Dragon and all the Chromed Out Baggers are running 10MPH... "It don't shine if you scrape it..."
  11. Thank you. I can't lie, there is a lot of time and effort into it, and ego wise, I can't ride it without someone saying so. And it is awesome.
  12. Stage 1. Intake, pipes and tune. It is a `16 Iron. I wanted blacked out engine, and it only came in the 883 back then. They have a 1200 Iron now, which oddly enough looks very similar to my bike from the factory. I am 6' tall with a regular build. I installed forward controls to have more room. I was after a look so I have an itty bitty seat that looks pretty. Any more than an hour straight in the saddle and I have to stop for a bit. That works well with the little tank. 3.3g at ~50MPG, fill up every 100 miles and take a walk. I don't regret the seat, but if I were to start doing sun up to sun down rides, I would definitely rethink it. The hard part is the seat is a big part of the look of the bike, and a big part of the comfort. I like to drive the backroads, and overall this bike is a blast. It might not cruise like a touring bike, or rip like a sport bike, but does everything adequately. It is also worth noting that I wanted a Sportster. Not a Dyna, not a Softail, not a Shadow, not a Bolt, not a Ninja. I wanted a Sportster. The engine is bulletproof and the aftermarket is very ample.
  13. We had a `72? Stepside when I was a kid. Sissy. I pulled up on a customer the other day and tried to buy his 1310 off of him point blank. He wasn't having it.
  14. I have a heavily modified stock powerplant Sportster of recent iteration. It is a great bike. I went style over substance and it sucks for more than an hour in the saddle. A proper seat and I would change my opinion. I personally prefer the light weight, nimbleness and narrow width of a Sporty. I ride it like I stole it.
  15. I am halfheartedly looking for a 1010 Series International.
  16. When I started reading, I seriously thought the above story is where the post was going. You son's first move should have been to get her name removed from the title/loan after the divorce.
  17. My first gun was an Iver Johnson L'il Champ. It was also my daughter's first.
  18. My father in law passed his first gun to my daughter, a JC Higgins .410 bolt action. It is actually a Stevens. I need to get a magazine for it.
  19. I used to work with a family member of that guy. Brother or Brother in law. I thought he was making it up when he took off work until I saw him on the news.
  20. That sucks, even ten builds or more in, I still watch the Brownell's videos when I assemble an AR.
  21. If I want a gun to fit a purpose, I get one. Ruining a gun isn't the way I do it.
  22. As others have said, there are folks to listen. I have been to the dark side and back. I am available for anyone who needs a sounding board.
  23. An easy to operate .380 the size of a 9mm with a grip safety. The newest American Rifleman had a review. It is not for me, but I won't hate.
  24. My wife is a fan of Cesar Milan. It is funny because I will tell her to do something with the dogs and she will say 'That is what Cesar says to do!' I haven't watched more than ten minutes in passing of his show. She has stated that using some of his techniques have helped her with out girls. Bandit is very much an alpha dog, with Brigand being a very beta dog. It works well in their dynamic. Bandit recognizes me as the alpha of the pack and she will never disobey me. The wife on the other hand... Brigand listens to her... The wife has learned that squaring her shoulders, hulking over and speaking firmly has really helped with Bandit obeying her. Me, I just point to what I want her to do and she does it
