  1. Here's the PetTrainer collar I bought on eBay. I'd say the range was almost 100 yards, but it would be less if it wasn't charged. It has a beep mode, a vibrate mode, a shock mode, and a flashing LED mode. The vibrate and shock modes are adjustable from 1 to 100. It took about a 40 or so to get an uncomfortable zap on my hand. I never leave the collar on the dog when he isn't being walked. It's not safe to leave it on the dog all the time. Once again, I tested it on my hand. It takes a setting of about 40 before the zap starts to get uncomfortable. I couldn't even feel the lower settings. As I said, one of the collars quit working after a few months, but I only needed one anyway. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Shock-Collar-2-Large-Small-Dogs-Gear-Remote-Training-Pet-Trainer-Waterproof-New/112351388937?epid=549592078&hash=item1a28aa2509:g:ffsAAOSwax5Y20k8 The other shock collar we own is a $150 Sport Dog training collar that we got at Tractor Supply, I think. It works equally well. The battery went out after a few months and I had to buy a $20 replacement battery for the collar. Wait! Here is the same PetTrainer collar for $46. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Petrainer-Waterproof-Rechargeable-Electric-Remote-Dog-Training-Collar-For-2-Dogs/321814756316?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170810094027%26meid%3D62a2db04985d4ee9b22c3c0daafc16a9%26pid%3D100855%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26&_trksid=p2349526.c100855.m4779
  2. I've used two different shock collars. Both were adjustable. I held it in my hand and adjusted the shock until it was uncomfortable and then never used a higher setting on the dog than on myself. It's a little like a static electricity shock. These collars also have a beep mode. My dog, a Border Collie, learned to respond to only the beep mode. I'd tell him "No. or Come" and if he didn't respond, I'd repeat the command and beep him. If he still didn't respond, I'd repeat the command again and if he didn't respond immediately, I'd give him a shock. From then on, I'd never have to shock him again. A command followed by a beep was all it took. I have two brands. I bought one on eBay for $40 that came with two collars. One broke after 6 months, but the second one is still working fine. I'll see if I can find the auction for you.
  3. Still trying to figure out how bedtime is going to work, eh? Here's how it's going to work. You'll close the door, only to get a pitiful low howl that only a beagle can make. You'll open the door. He'll rush to the bed and curl up far away at the foot. He will sleep there every night for the next 18 years. Dogs are the best foot warmers in the world. Just get used to it! Check out my avatar to see my personal foot warmer.
  4. None of the above. I don't like the angle of the grip in double stack Glocks. Plus, the grip is too wide for my hand. I'd go for the Sig P938 over the 43. Significantly smaller than the 43, large manual safety with a definitive click, better grip angle, and the removable grip can be replaced with wood or other designs to make a beautiful weapon.
  5. Banggood.com has the BLF A6 LED flashlight for $17.99 with free shipping. I have 4 of these. It will need one 18650 rechargeable battery. You can buy the batteries and charger on the same website. Get the more expensive batteries. The cheapest ones are junk. Oh, I prefer the 1A Cool White bulb in this light. It looks brighter to me. https://www.banggood.com/BLF-A6-XPL-1600LM-7-4modes-EDC-LED-Flashlight-p-991823.html?rmmds=collection&utmid=2242&ID=518106&cur_warehouse=CN
  6. At gun.deals I found the Remington RP9 for $296. After $100 Mail in Rebate, that's only $196! The reviews on the RP9 are mixed and I haven't handled one. Oh well...
  7. We buy turkey and grind it up for our pets. I was hoping someone could recommend a great grinder... or let me know what they've seen on sale for Black Friday. Here is what we've used so far. Harbor Freight basic model $54 right now. This is the best one we've owned. The motor burned out eventually. STX 3000 from Amazon $179: This thing was a total piece of junk. Weston #5: $99. It's what we're using now, but it's not quite as good as the Harbor Freight grinder. It will be used to grind one thawed turkey about every 4 weeks. We remove the skin and grind everything except the neck, backbone, and large leg bones. With that in mind, what would you recommend?
  8. bersaguy, it sounds to me like you have a special connection with dogs. So do I. There's nothing like spending some time with a dog to see how you "feel" about it. You might want to visit Phoebe with the firm decision ahead of time that you will NOT adopt on this visit, but just see how you get along together. I adopted my cat Watcher from Freedom Farms Animal Sanctuary 13 years ago and he is still going strong... a little slower... but still strong. I've also fostered 7 dogs and cats over the years. We also rescued a border collie mix that looks a lot like Phoebe, but Phoebe looks a lot older than 7. Our border collie is 13 and has similar gray around the muzzle. Border collies can be a handful. Although I love him, at age 70, I'd never get another border collie. I'd go for a smaller breed that would be easier for my aging wife to walk and small enough to nap in my lap when I watch TV.
  9. I have a M&P Shield 9mm with the thumb safety. I prefer a thumb safety, but the thumb lever is too small to hit reliably 100% of the time, so I don't carry it. Is there an aftermarket part for this or does anyone have a fix? Something like the manual safety on the M&P 45 or the Taurus Millennium G2 would be ideal. It doesn't need to be a 1911-type lever.
  10. Yep. The only bad thing about this is now I really need to sell something.
  11. Rural King emailed that it has the Canik TP9SA in black or desert tan for $309 with no transfer fee if you pick it up at Rural King. I just ordered one. It's $349 after sales tax and $9.99 shipping. I'll have to drive to Clarksville to pick it up, but it's a not that far for me.
  12. I bought a solar panel specifically to recharge batteries for flashlights, radios, and ebook readers.
  13. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess...
  14. Glocks don't fit my hand. The grip is too fat and the angle of the grip to the frame is too severe. My favorite big gun is the Canik TP9 SA. I don't have a favorite small gun. All of them have some significant shortcomings.
  15. Here's a tip that some posters might not know. You can go to your local public library online. In my case, it's https://library.nashville.org and get a library card for your local branch library. Or, go to your local branch and get a library card. Then, you can set up an account online. You can see if a book is in stock at your branch or you can download an ebook or an audiobook (assuming there is an audio version) to your laptop or your smartphone. If the book you want is already checked out, you can put yourself on the wait list to be notified by email when it is available. You can get recent best sellers this way, but you might have to wait a month or so. I use the OverDrive app on my Android phone to download ebooks and audiobooks from the library. I use the Smart AudioBook Player to play the audiobooks because it has slightly better controls than the Overdrive app. (I have to set the folder so the Smart AudioBook Player can find the audiobook files in OverDrive.) I read the ebooks on my Kindle app or on OverDrive. Occasionally, I will download free audiobooks from LibriVox using the LibriVox app. I also have an Audible.com account. It's free for 30 days and then $14.95/month. If you cancel the free 30 day trial before you get billed, it will ask you why you're cancelling. Tell them it's too expensive and you'll get an offer to sign up for 3 months for $8.95/month. If you don't like a book you can return it for a free credit for another audiobook. So far, I've listened to about 6 books and only had to make two $8.95 payments. Audiobooks are great for tasks like mowing lawns or driving long distances or just doing mindless tasks around the house. A typical audiobook is 12-13 hours long. Oh, one more thing. If you search online before you set up your free 30 day trial on Audible, you can find a coupon to get 2 credits (books) instead of just one in the regular free trial.
  16. I haven't watched TWD since the season opener last year. Does Rick still hold his Python above eye level and point the barrel down? This always struck me as an awkward position, much less being unable to aim the gun.
  17. I quit watching this show when they killed off Abraham.
  18. I use a SOG Access Card 2.0 as a money clip and $100-$300 in bills in my left front pocket. That way, I never lose my knife or my cash. There are places I go regularly that don't take credit cards, like a Thai restaurant and Costco. Plus, if I'm ever mugged, I'd much rather throw a wad of cash on the ground and run than shoot the perp... much cheaper in the long run.
  19. bersaguy, my phone automatically uploads my pictures to Dropbox so I never have to worry about backing up photos. Dropbox also syncs my photos with my laptop. I start a new backup file every year to free up space on my my phone. I currently have 1,300 photos in my 2017 photo folder that is taking up 11 GB of space... and that includes maybe 1 GB of videos. You should be able to get several thousand photos on a 64GB USB flash drive, so that's probably the best and easiest approach for a one-time backup. I pay $99/year for 1 Terabyte (1,000 GB) of Dropbox storage that backs up my photos, my laptop, and my wife's laptop. Equally important, it does it AUTOMATICALLY. I can literally hit save on a document and hear a ding when that document syncs to my wife's laptop about 5 seconds later. When my wife saves a file, I can hear a ding on my laptop five seconds later. So we have dual backup. In the cloud and on each other's laptop. Just to be clear... you don't need this level of backup or this many GB of storage. I'm just letting everyone know how easy and relatively inexpensive it is to back up files today using Dropbox.
  20. Now you just need an IWB holster...
  21. I just looked online. They're sold out of the G2 in FDE. Too bad...
  22. I just listened to a 2-minute cell phone video. The first nonstop burst was about 100 rounds. There was a pause of about 30 seconds and then the next burst sounded different, but it was the same rate of fire. It lasted about 40 rounds. The second burst sounded like an AR15, but the first long burst was deeper... more of a pom pom pom sound. After that, there was another pause, but the video stopped at two minutes before any more rounds were fired. Maybe the first gun had a longer barrel?
  23. I think I heard more than 30 continuous rounds. I suppose it's possible with a shooting platform to switch from one rifle to another in one second.
