Looking for a set of dies for this can anyone help

I was musing the recently about some handgun bullets from the past, from my recollection. I remember reading much of Elmer Keith's opinions, and that he totally condemned jacketed handgun bullets, preferring cast bullets, mostly of his design. And cast, or as far as factory ammunition was concerned, swaged lead bullets, remained the stand-by for a long time, up until the introduction of the .44 Magnum cartridge in 1955. The .44 ushered in a new era in revolver bullets. Jacketed bullets, full metal jacketed, soft point, and hollow point jacketed bullets had been around for a long time, mostly in the European auto pistol cartridges, such as the .30 Mauser and 7.65mm Luger. And the .38-40 and .44-40 were offered in hollow point bullets, but these actually intended for use in rifles. There was a company that originated about the time the .44 was introduced that offered a line of bullets cast of a zinc based alloy. This company, the Cladaloy Bullet Co. sold bullets by mail through magazine advertising. Their bullets were cast of Zinc, and copper coated. Zinc being roughly half the density of lead were very light in weight. A bullet cast from a mold throwing a.44 caliber bullet of lead weighed 246 grs. while the same mold yielded a 128 gr. zinc based bullet. Those who tested those bullet claimed velocities in a .44 Special hit 1100 ~ 1200 fps. The advantage was high velocities with minimum recoil. So far as I can determine, the company lasted from about 1955 through maybe 1958. The late Jim Harvey developed his Pro-Tex-Bore bullets which were swaged of pure lead but had a zinc washer riveted to the base of the bullet. These bullets ran toward the nominal lead bullet weights. His claim was that the zinc washer prevented any leading of the bore when pushed to high velocities, as his loading data pushed .44 Magnum bullets above the 1400 fps level. Harvey also became a proponent of the half jacketed bullet, using a pure lead core swaged into a copper cup, really sort of an elongated gas check. Speer made and marketed these bullets for many years, still offering one style, I believe, a 225 gr. Half Jacketed bullet. One drawback to these is that if the velocity level falls below a certain point there is the possibility the lead core will separate and leave the jacket stuck in the bore. With the coming of new powders that easily develop 1300 fps or higher, the jacketed bullets having an ogive have become commonplace and now good hunting bullets from Speer, Hornady, Sierra and factory fodder from Remington, Winchester and Federal are available, all of which give good performance in the field. I have a bunch of assorted brass that came from a range here in town that closed up. I have probably almsot two 5 gallon pails of it and I am thinking about sitting down in spare time and going through the pails and seperating out all the different calibers into different cans. Now with that said, are there any calibers that would be wanted more than another for reloading. I figure it will give me something to do this winter when I get bored. I know the 22caliber is junk but just looking to find out what might be the more popular calibers..............

I saw a photo of the Old Hickory Powder Plant in a Cracker Barrel restaurant here in Memphis. My uncle worked there just before he joined the US Army. At the time he worked there it was operated by DuPont and they were producing Cordite for the British. Cordite was a soft pliable stuff that was extruded. Before it solidified it could be molded like clay. My uncle made a shapely ladies' leg complete with a dainty high heeled shoe from Cordite and gave it to my mother, very racey at the time! When I first saw the leg, about 1943 or so, it was maybe six inches from thigh (blush!) to heel. The last time I saw it, 1985 or so, it had shrunk to about 3 1/2" long, but still perfectly portioned. It varied in color from charcoal gray to translucent amber. At my mother's death in 1998 it went to my oldest sister in Florida. I have no idea of its whereabouts now. I believe Old Hickory's output was for British artillery shells. I don't know if any was produced for small arms ammunition, but the British used Cordite for awhile after that War. My uncle was Maynard Wright and was on the editorial staff of the Nashville Banner then moved to Charleston, WV as an editor for the Charleston Gazette. Bob Wright

So, if y'all will indulge my posts here abouts, a few cartridges: These are some variations of old .45 caliber rounds, all commercial: The notes below are the headstamps of the rounds. The nickeled case round is from one of the first boxes of ammunition I bought many years ago for my Colt New Service. Some .44s: The .44 Remington is unmarked, but the case is Remington, but I believe the round is a reproduction. And, sort of the progression from .44 R.F. to .44 Magnum: I believe the .44 S&W is in reality just a centerfire Henry. The first Smith & Wesson No.3 submitted to the Army was rimfire, and the Army returned it wanting a centerfire. My RCBS seating dies use the same seating stem for .44 Special, .44 Magnum, and .45 Colt, so I keep the seating stems separate in a wooden box. (I have this affinity for wooden boxes) My die is already set for crimping, so in order to get the correct seating depth, I made up some inert rounds: I then run the correct dummy round up into the die, then insert the seating stem until it contacts the bullet nose. So DJT has been in office for roughly nine months. In that time .22LR has made it's way back on to the shelves just about everywhere. I've been places and seen cases and cases of .22LR on display for sale. Clearly the shortage is no longer there. That being said the price of a brick of cheep plinking .22LR is still above $25-30 in most places. I know that seeing $15 bricks is a thing of the past but what's keeping the price so high? Is it the manufactures, the wholesalers, or retailers?

Buddy got some 250gr hornady xtp .452 bullets instead of a .451 he's using Winchester 231 powder. All either of us can find is to use 5.1gr for 800-900fps. Does anyone have any other info on that setup by chance before he starts testing?

I got an email from AmmoFast.com today that showed "Aguila 12 Gauge MINISHELL". Has anyone used these? Looks like they come in 7.5 shot, slug and buckshot. They are 1 3/4 Inch, so they are touting that you can double the capacity of your pump. They are not for Semis. Interesting idea I guess if you worry about number of shots. At $1 a round, it is not the cheapest thing ever. The Remington Buckshot I just bought with a rebate comes out to about $0.40 per shot. So thoughts? Here is a link if anyone want to look. I had my first and hopefully last squib today. I actually tried to cycle another round in the chamber but luckily it was far enough back not to let the slide close. Dumb move on my part! If something seems wrong stop and check it out. I thought I would pass this along so maybe somebody could learn from my stupid mistake.

Yep I did it, been working on this for a few weeks. Picked up the pan and drippers from ebay. Coolant is cheap wally world fabric softener. Ammo cans stacked so the ramp is just clear of the coolant, large can to catch the over flow of coolant. I am using an electric stove top element and mapp torch to get things going and to keep the drippers flowing. The drippers will cool a bit and the torch keeps them warm. I made 5 lbs in about 30 mins, not bad for 3rd try. Size is 7 to 9 shot, some 11.

Yes it is a little round, 40 to 50 grans boolit, .5 to 1.5 grans of powder. Shell not much bigger than a 22 LR, and the small pistol primer fills the back end of the case. I cast for the little thing as well, a bit tedious at times, heck all the time. All that said I cast, powder coated and loaded a few this week end. I have 2 molds, a RCBS 25-50-RN, it drops a 50 gran boolit at .254, good looking boolit 2 at a time. The 2md ,mold a MeHic 25 HP that drops 3 at a time at 45 grans and .251. The green ones are the RCBS and the gray are the HP boolits. Since my powder measure will not drop less that 2.5 grans I made dippers, the top one is .5 for titegroup, the right one is 1.3 for green dot, the left was a test. Testing was good, no miss-feeds and hit a paper plate at 10 and 15 feet, with a less then 3 inch barrel I dont shoot out past 20 feet. It is a perfect round for getting varmints out of the chicken pen.
