That's awesome I guess...but why pay so much for HP ammo? HP ammo wasn't even invented when the 1911 was invented, all my weapons use ball ammo and I guarantee that it will kill a BG dead for cheaper than HP ammo.

Is your objective to kill or to stop the fight?

I don't take JHPs to every range session, they are reserved for defensive use. Buying a box of JHPs every so often to rotate them out isn't going to break me.

Stop the fight.

Bigger holes = quicker stoppage.

Good price on those SGD's!

No expansion means you have to wait for him to bleed out, unless you are an extremely good shot under extreme stress. Quality JHPs produce a larger wound channel, resulting in more organ damage.

I would take a quality, 147 gr JHP 9mm over a FMJ .45 for SD any day of the week.

I want to stop the fight, not wait for him to bleed out and give him extra time to fight back.

Exactly, hence my posting what I did in response to your question.

.45 SGD's are fantastic rounds for stopping the fight! I'd take them any day of the week and twice on Sundays once I knew they worked reliably in my firearm.

It's why I have over 2k .40S&W SGD's in an ammo can.

My apologies; I misread your post.

Thanks for the tip MCR! I was lucky enough to stumble into some WWB 45ACP hollow points and these end up being about the same price without having to drive anywhere. FWIW I tried 50 of the wally world JHPs through my almost broken in Springfield Mil-Spec and they functioned perfectly and were much more accurate than the FMJs. However, getting premium hollowpoints for wally world pricing is phenomenal!

Yea, I appreciate it also. I ordered a couple hundred rounds of the Gold Dot, and ended up ordering another hundred in the Federal Hydro Shok.

This will give me a chance to get some "cheaper", still not cheap, rounds through my 1911. I need to qualify it with some HP's.

Thanks again for sharing!
