I don't know about youth hunts Whiskey....but there are some good dove fields at Haynes Bottoms. I haven't seen but a few on the property I hunt....so that's not going to be very promising. I will let you know though.

Are you and K-bug going? I am sure that Lana would love some female company. I have a 20ga. shotgun that K-bug can use if she needs one. Let me know.

LOL....300 shells for 15 birds is about right for me! I guess me and K-bug will go to the private property. We don't own a kevlar umbrella, so I really don't won't to take her to Haynes Bottoms! You and Lana get some birds on those leases!

WD, it is a state leased field, open to anyone. You and K can join us if you wish. I rode out there yesterday and there were some birds flying. I plan to drive out tomorrow evening and check again. Kevlar umbrellas might be needed, never know how many yay-hoos will show up on hunts like these. I am hoping the mid-week opener will help keep the crowds down.

I am going for the first time in many years. As long as it has been probably all I'll be doing is making noise and wasting money but I'm sure I'll have fun trying.

As long as your having fun scaring the crap out of them thats all that counts :)

Well a buddy of mine & I have spent the last 3 days scouting out possible fields & onething I can say with a certainty, this is definately a yearto be hunting over Sunflowers if you can. We've seen very few birds over shelled corn & almost none over top-sown wheat (Most of which, I think, was sown a week too early for Doves) Every Sunflower field we've scouted has been covered up with birds.

Bark Camp Barrens in Coffee Co. is looking like it'll be the hot ticket. Sunflowers & Millet have the birds going nuts over there. We'll be there at about 7am tomorrow I reckon! :screwy:

7am may be an hour too late.

We will be down in Tullahoma for the weekend. I won't get to hunt, but we are going to float the Elk on Sunday. If they have cut the corn fields around my mom's, then I may sneak in a hunt on Saturday evening.

I will be going Saturday here. Then I head to Texas in a couple of weeks for opening weekend there.

Thus will begin a lot of bird hunting this season. I really enjoy bird hunting. This fall it will be dove, pheasant in Kansas and South Dakota, grouse in Nebraska and Michigan. Oh yeah I'm ready!

Well, not my best day dove hunting, but I really enjoyed spending the day with my daughter. There weren't many birds flying, it was hot and the walk was long. I fired a total of 3 shells. My daughter fired twice. I killed 2 and she didn't get any. The good news is that the bird I missed, I never imagined I had a chance to hit. It was a good 75 yards out, I just wanted to pull a trigger. The two birds that did fly within range, both died. That is a great improvement for my average. :stare: I am going to try again this weekend if we can squeeze some time in.

We didn't have much luck either. We were counting on hunting going on on the farm just over the fence in a sunflower field to keep them moving but they did not hunt today. I got a total of two but I'm not complaining. It has been many years for me and I still had fun.

Just got back from hunting dove for the first time in a long time. I shot about 60 or 70 rounds and got 8 birds. I am so rusty but hey I had a great time with a bunch of guys and gals who I met for the first time today. They treated me like they had knew me for forever. I was invited by a friend of the group and they are great people so that made it worth the trip even if I hadn't killed a single bird.

That is awesome man. Glad you had a good time and got to meet some new friends in the outdoors.

Yeah the guy who owns the property is a great guy. He wants me to take him coyote hunting out there. He is also going to let me turkey and deer hunt on the property. Like I said they were awesome and great company.
