And, two taking aim at gun show sales

Recommended Posts

Memphis stalwart Hardaway tries it again (I believe he introduced identical legislation last year): http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/107/Bill/HB0026.pdf

"...creates various gun show offenses, including prohibiting any person who is not a licensed firearms dealer from transferring a firearm to another person if any part of the transfer takes place at a gun show or within 1,000 feet of a gun show."

This one forces gun show promoters to list prospective events with TBI and local LEO, verify identitity, etc of each dealer and keep those records for a year, and criminalizes as a Class A misdemeanor a sale or transfer of any firearm within 1000 feet of a gun show by an unlicensed (18 USC 923) dealer.

Then, Floyd gets in on the act by submitting the identical bill: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/107/Bill/HB0608.pdf

The intent of a gun show or a swap meet is not for retail sale. That is why dealers are required to have a store front. He seems to think this is a retail event.

Tennessee law allows the private sale of firearms. That may not sit well with him; but it is the law.

What’s with notifying the TBI and CLEO’s? Are there some clandestine gun shows the TBI and the CLEO’s aren’t made aware of? Is he suggesting they must approve?

How do these politicians respond when they are asked where they stand on the 2nd amendment?

Maybe in his part of the state they don't advertise gun shows like they do in East TN. Drive down the interstate in Knoxville and you rarely don't see a huge billboard that's in a bright neon color with a font the size of a Mack Truck saying "GUN SHOW". He's just an idiot that offers feel good laws for the idiots who elected him.

Hopefully, due to the supposed more conservative stance in the legislature, these will not get to the floor.

This actually may get to the floor under the more conservative legislature because the first act of the more conservative legislature was to disband all subcommittees, where most legislation dies.

Many people don't realize it, but this will have the most dramatic effect on the way our legislature works since reconstruction.

A sound thrashing of said proposed Legislation may make a bigger statement than just having it die in subcommittee.
