Hunter's safety

Recommended Posts

I have my doubts but I will try. I think it was in 1986....

I took mine in 1987 and I am in their system. Back in those days it was really dependent on how well your instructor kept and submitted records.

Why can't you take the class again if need be?

Time constraints

You can go online and look yourself up via SSN. Or just call the office and perhaps they can find your number. It was about 20 years between safety class and first license purchase for me.

I'll try this.

Well, that was a bust. I'm not in the system. I think it was in 85 or 86 i took the class but honestly cannot remember. I had a hunting license in 87 or 88, but that was the lat time I had one. My next step is to contact TWRA and see if they will take my word that I have had the class....

at age 13, I took the very first course offered in Knoxville area (sponsored by KNS, and conducted by TWRA), in October 1974.  My SSN was not on the card.  In fact, the instructor's SSN is on my original (who is now a well known official, BTW).  Later, they re-issued the card with all zeros (000-00-0000), then even later, they issued the card with my actual SSN (and now it is just noted by date on my lifetime permit).

SO, I suggest digging a bit deeper with other info, and someone with access to old archives. The info is out there, just have to persuade someone to dig it up.

If you need to, TWRA does offer the class online. You will have to show up in person to demonstrate your shooting and safe gun handling. Usually on a Saturday. I believe the online course is still free.

The online course is ran by a third party amd they do charge. It's around $20 to print the certificate from them that you have to take to the Saturday "field day" event.

Just got back from my Field Day today. I did the online thing followed up with the field day. Nifty little trailer the TWRA has for the live fire.

BTW TWRA said they already have their first reported tree stand incident not even season yet. Someone checking one fell off/out and broke a foot/ankle.
