Rifle Bookbag

I've been looking recently for a "Bookbag" type of rifle case to comfortably hold an AR platform weapon.  I would have it in 2 pieces and could assemble it if needed.  The trouble I am coming across involves the inside of the bag specifically.  I am looking for 2 seperate compartments with atleast 1-2 velcro tabs to hold it in place along with 1-2 mags.  Does anyone know of such a bag?  I've seen the larger ones, but would like to keep the bag as nondescript and normal looking as possible.  Thanks for the help-

Your big issue might be the length required for the upper. You're looking at at least 20" unless you go pistol.

I was looking for a smaller bag, literally taking both forward and rear pins out to split the weapon in 2 parts and make it easier to fit in a smaller bag.  Wearing that bag ^^^ would be like wearing a giant neon sign around my neck screaming "I have a rifle":)

Have you ever seen a SneakyBag?  It can hold carbines and rifles of various sizes without screaming "Lookit, GUN!"  Couple of skateboard patches stuck to the side, and Bob's your uncle...

I think I know what you mean you're looking for but that was the closest I could find. Even with the pins out on a regular AR, you are looking at at least 16 for the barrel and 4 for the upper for 20 total(unless, as someone says, you go SBR). Of course, if you do it diagonally, you could get away with something in the region of 12x16 Edited January 30, 2014 by tnguy

That's why the SneakyBag's a much better deal.  It just doesn't look like something you'd put a gun in.  Especially if you stay away from the tactical colors.

I have the same pack, its an awesome pack but unless you have the really trick AR in the video it's not gonna fit, I'll see if I can post a picture of my ar against the bag, I have a 20" a2 AR, it does have 2 pouches inside the main compartment that fit 30 rd mags.

I use mine as an edc or overnight bag, it has a holster hidden in the outside compartment behind a velcro flap has room for a change of clothes and has a sleeve for a hydration bladder. Does it really offer much over a decent generic-use backpack? With the bonus that someone might recognize a backpack specifically designed to carry firearms?

This bag isn't designed to carry a rifle, it doesn't have straps to secure the upper or lower. It does have a pistol holster in the outer pouch and 2 pouches inside the main compartment will barely fit 2 standard 30rd mags. Here's some pictures I took of my bag trying to hold a 20" a2.

Thanks for the info Tacoma, if you split the rifle at the rear pin do you think it would fit?  I have a 14.5" afghan with a pig to make it 16" but don't have the folding aft stock, only a collapsible one.  That bag is legit, just want to make sure it would fit before dropping a benji on it.

I wasn't clear earlier, I completely separated the upper and lower. I collapsed my stock all the way and the lower barely fits lengthwise. The upper even if it was a 16" would still hang out like mine, a 10 or 12" barreled upped might fit.

If you watch the video, the AR he uses has a really trick removable barrel. And it has some sort of folding stock. A "regular" AR without a removable barrel will not fit.

With my stock all the way collapsed the lower barely fits. The upper even if I had a 16" barrel would still hang out. I think a 12" might fit. I guarantee a 10" would fit

Or consider an AR pistol instead of SBR. Both the upper and lower would be shorter. Broken apart, would easily fit in most back packs.

Yep. I kept my AR pistol in a drawer broken into two pieces for a while. I think an interesting idea might be a bridging piece to allow the upper and lower to be connected together the wrong way around. This would allow it to be carried in a bag or pack without rattling around or scraping.

I sold my LWRC 14.5 carbine a couple of years ago and my original SB went as part of the deal.  I'll probably get another one for my -6920.

The small size should fit in the big pocket of the rifle bag (but I'd confirm that with the company before purchase).

If you want something a little different where no one would suspect you are carrying a rifle then look at double tennis racket bags.
